What should I read during my time off from school?

(One of these days, I'll do some updating of this journal, but for now.....)

Just over 3 years ago, I started keeping a couple of running lists related to Books.  One is “Books I’ve Read”, making notes about books I should re-read in some distant future and ones to avoid recommending to anyone.  The other list is “Books To Read When I Have Spare Time”... needless to say, this list is significantly longer than the first one.  Depending on when I get into nursing school, I have somewhere between 3 months and the rest of my life to read stuff that is not directly related to chemistry, anatomy, microbiology, physiology, or any other “ology” for that matter.  I was going to post my list here, but it’s four pages on my private Amazon.com wish list, which I didn’t feel like cutting and pasting.

The first book I’ll be diving into [ahem] after finals are done is “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” by Jean-Dominique Bauby.  I saw the movie and absolutely loved it, and I’m hoping the book will be even better.  It should be at the library about the time I post my final assignments and take my last exam.  I eagerly await its arrival.

Now, even though my To-Read list is already 4 Amazon ages long, I would like some input from you, my friends.  Is there a classic piece of literature you particularly like?  Some chick-lit that tickled your funny bone and made you cry at the same time?  A gripping mystery you couldn’t put down?  I’m open to suggestion.  The LA Public Library has just about everything, so my library card will be getting a workout this Spring and Summer.

Thank you for your suggestions and happy reading!
