it's been awhile...
Since last we heard from our heroine...
* Still totally kicking ass in Anatomy (solid A, baby!). I've only got 3 more weeks left of the class then I can take a 2-week breather from school and really concentrate on the wedding stuff (what wedding? see below). Some folks I'm friendly with in class are putting together Sunday study group to keep on top of the material for the rest of the semester, which is the toughest stuff yet (the meat & potatoes of this class).
* We love our house. We still have a lot of boxes to unpack, but we're still in love with the house. :) House-warming/Reception to be held later in the summer.
* Dakota comes home in a month!
* Chris and I decided to have a very VERY small wedding after I'm done with school this semester. And for the record, no I'm not pregnant so Dad won't be bringing the shotgun (well.... maybe he will... i dunno). We just didn't want to wait another year until school becomes less hectic, so we figured out the one weekend that would really work for us (well, for me, 'cuz School is eating up all my time this year) and dove head-first into the planning.
Initially, we were going to keep it under wraps until after we were married, but with just a little over a month to plan, guddamnit, I want to frickin' tell people about it! It's not some dirty little secret that needs to be swept into the closet... I'm getting married, for f**k's sake, not planning an assassination.
So far, with a month and one week to go we have:
* what few guests we're having already have their airline tix and hotel rooms booked.
* our officiant / therapist is on board and has our ceremony already half written. Chris' mom and late grandmother are non-practicing Jews, so we're integrating some Jewish traditions that I really love the symbolism of (chuppah and ketubbah). Dad's walking me down the "aisle" (across our back patio to the lawn). And the Apache Wedding Blessing
will be the close of our ceremony before we're pronounced "Mr. & Mrs.".
* I have my dress (which looks pretty much the same on me as it does on the model, so no alterations needed.... yay!). I bought it on eBay for $67.50 new (compared to $225 on J Crew's website). Score!
My shoes:
I'm 95% sure they're "the ones", but I'm trying out a few other pairs just to be sure. I <3 Zappos.com

* We've ordered a cake topper from Nicole Clark
. (I'm making our cake myself.) A few people posted about her toppers in the
weddingplans community, so we checked out her website and fell in love with them. We're getting a 3-piece mini couple (bride, groom, and dog).
* I had given up hope that I would find The Song I Wanted and was starting to come up with alternates, when I found it. It. The Song. I nearly cried. Previously, all I'd had to go on in my search was a 10-second snippet from a commercial I couldn't remember but that 10 seconds had really stuck in my craw... I said a little prayer to the Universe that The Song might be found, but decided to find the runner-up. Then, while procrastinating at work catching up on my weddingplans reading, low and behold... there It was. A YouTube video with my song. The Song. I shot a quick email to Chris, Mom, and FMIL.... approval all around. Thank you, dear Universe (and
weddingplans)!
We've still got a lot to do in the next month-and-a-smidge, but we're getting there!
