The Year So Far

Oct 15, 2011 21:18

So, what the hell have I been up to? Not posting to LJ, or even visiting much either, that's for sure. I just went through my previous posts and it reminded me how nice it is to have this kind of record of events. Since so much has happened this year, I'm going to condense it all down to list form (ahh, my beloved lists).

In chronological order:
- In January, I discovered the BBC series Sherlock (which is wonderful - Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant as modern!Sherlock and the relationship between Sherlock and John is perfect)
- Discovered Dexter (the Showtime series, though I've read the books too) and was blown away. You wouldn't think that you could care so much for and be so sympathetic to a character that feels a "need" to murder people, but the story is so briliantly put together, that you do. And that clash between loving him and rooting for him and knowing what he is doing is wrong - trying to reconcile those feelings - makes for a story that you can't just leave alone. It's amazing.
- In May, I took my first ever flight! I went to Milwaukee for work via Chicago (came back through Detriot).
- Attended my first Major League Baseball game. Brewers vs the Rockies. It was the game that would not end. Thirteen innings!
- Went to the Milwaukee Public Museum and saw the Mummies of the World
exhibit. For some reason, the elaborate howler monkey mummy nearly made me cry.
- In Detroit, I discovered that my homemade onigiri are 100000x better that the ready-made ones (the kind you would find in a Japanese convenience store).
- Went camping again this year for my niece's birthday
- Bought a house at the beginning of July
- Soon discovered that the popcorn ceilings in my new house contained asbestos which took a ton of stress and frustration, a lot of sweat, tears, and a big chunk of money to be rid of
- Got way stressed out between the massive backlog at work (including more problem projects than I care to count (at least I wasn't the cause of the problems), working on the new house (including wallpaper removal, drywall repair, and dealing with the asbestos issue), prepping to move, and trying to train for BoilerMan 2011
- Learned that after nearly a decade, CLAMP is going to restart my old love, Gouhou Drug (but have so far not been impressed by any of the subsequent news. Think positive. Reserve judgement. Think positive! Ah, it's hard to do!)
- Moved into new house in the middle of September
- Finished the BoilerMan 7 minutes slower than last year, but was not too dissapointed overall considering how busy I'd been
- Remember this? Well the trial was finally held. Charge: murder. Verdict: guilty.
- Got a call from my brother just this past Monday to tell me that he got engaged over the weekend
- In a superbly moronic move, bashed my foot against the wall of the bathtub and gave myself either a small fracture or jammed my toes really badly. Don't know if I'll be able to run in the either of my planned races at the end of the month. TT
- (ETA) Saw live salmon in the wild for the first time in my life - it was so cool!
- Not wanting to end my list on a downer, I had a super productive day today. I did laundry, dishes, cooked roast beef and vegetables in my new crockpot, vacuumed, did some extra miscellaneous cleaning, did a bit of unpacking and decorating, and had an afternoon visit from Dad and my niece.

I'll not speculate on how much I'll be around. It seems like everytime I say I'm going to journal more, I find excuses to avoid writing. So no pressure.
