Beware: sobering topics to follow!
Oh. My. God.
Despite what my source tells me, it's still technically heresy to say "here's what happened" so I'll wait with the definites until the police conclude their investigation. It is a fact though, that one of my classmates from high school is being questioned in the death of his wife. She was shot twice this morning and died later at the hospital. Sadly, based on the circumstances described in the paper, it's seems likely that he is the one who shot her. Innocent until proven guilty, but it's not looking good.
The guy in question had the locker next to mine for 4 years, maybe more. My perception of him was always that he was an okay guy - nice, down to earth. Very normal. I guess you just never really know about a person.
During college, I worked with his younger brother at my summer job - we got along really well too. I kind of feel like I should do something, but despite the saying that, "there's a card for every occasion," I'm sure there's not one that says, "Sorry to hear that your brother may be a murderer, that your sister-in-law is dead, and that your nephew may soon be permenately parentless for all practical purposes."
The murder rate in the county I live in is really low so it's shocking enough when one happens at all, let alone when you know people involved.
I hope this isn't true. That it was an accident. Even suicide would be less horrible. But if you're going to shot yourself, I'd think once to the head would be sufficient. Twice in the chest speaks of a second person going the shooting. The fact that she was shot twice also makes it sound less like an accident and more like murder. Someone called for an ambulance so maybe there was remorse involved. Or maybe there were more people involved.... I don't know.
