Happy Canada Day!

Hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off, the celebrations.

We were camping this weekend, this time alone. Our friends had a family wedding on Sunday. The forecast had called for cooler temperatures but lots of sun but apparently the few hours north and east meant a different weather system because it rained off and on Saturday and Sunday. People in the park would be out playing one hour and then huddled under canopies from the rain the next. The land was so thirsty though that it never did turn into a mud puddle.

We were caught out on the boat one time. Kim and Jessica hauled in the only fish. With a bit more patience I suspect we could have caught something of substance sooner or later but patience and kids don’t always go together.

There was a DJ for Saturday night at the rec hall and during the early part of the evening, he played recent hits for the younger crowd. Kim and I spied on Jessica shaking her thing. We had to drag her out when we noticed the music aging as well as the crowd; it was time for the adults.

Despite the rain during both days, the evenings were dry and the stars were out, that is until the full moon rose and drowned them out. Our camp fires weren’t as lively as they could have been, as we were parked on the main road and a little subconscious of others. Also, an older teenager doesn’t participate in campfire antics as he use to. Jessica still led us in a few girl guide campfire songs like Yogi Bear.

Sunday night we stayed in the park for their own fireworks and surprisingly had a good show. There was one everyone enjoyed; it shot of several projectives in a machinegun rapid fashion in a fan shape pattern. First one way and then back again. Everyone cheered that one.

We hung around Monday anticipating the arrival of Fern and his trailer. He was successful in attaining a seasonal lot although not without some complications from a neighbour who had, over the years, claimed more land for himself. However, Fern’s visit was a short drop off and run again. They’ll figure out the best way to align his trailer during the week, taking into account the septic lines and the direction of his door.

The trip home wasn’t all that bad; the 401 opened up fairly quickly after Bowmanville. We’re looking forward to more camping but Jessica’s Guide camp is going to make organizing it a little difficult as she departs on a Sunday and arrives back on a Friday. Should be fun.
