Robin actually can't actually speak 200+ languages. That's because he is still trying to get English down pat (cue the cut up words. Bats introduced him to pre/suffixes).

0.0 Yes. This.

I lay tentative claim to this, because it is so awesome it has to be done. I'm actually looking at a lot of (second) language acquisition research right now, so I can pretend that writing this is sort of like studying. It's like real-world application of theoretical knowledge, right?

Awesome prompt, just wanted to let you know that something should hopefully be forthcoming.

And his first language was ROMANI!!!! Right??? 8DDDD *glee*

Awesome accents? In general adorableness? yes.

Romani doesn't really work because it's morphological typology uses prefixes and suffixes (more than English, possibly). So I'm making up a pidgin loosely based on Tok Pisin (which is spoken in Papa New Guinea and loosely based on English and has very few suffixes and no prefixes) and am going to throw in some Romani words (because I figure it could make sense for a circus to have a bunch of performers who speak completely different languages and so they need some common tongue they can communicate in). Adorableness and accents are planned, yes. :) This is such an awesome prompt.

:V FYI a number of circuses still use "Parlari" which is itself derived from Euro-Mediterranean pidgin.

I think Nightwing mentions somewhere in the comics that he actually knows Palari, and only a little Romani. Not entirely sure, though.

This is really interesting, like I found myself picking out words I could translate and words that were used improperly but only because of the little things and I just really, really liked it a lot. I can't wait to see what else you have in store :)

Thanks! That was what I was going for so I'm glad it worked. I've started on the next part already and hope to have it up soon.

OP was really impressed by all the effort you put into creating Dick's circus smorgusboard language, and it really payed off. The wording itself was fantastic as well!

In-fixWhen Master Bruce shows up at the manor with a small child trailing behind him mournfully, Alfred is for once in his life uncertain. Master Bruce was never the sort of boy to bring home lost kittens or birds with broken wings and while his donations to homeless shelters and youth programs are more than generous, he’s never taken a personal interest. Master Bruce doesn’t even tell him why, simply informs him that the boy’s name is Richard Grayson and could Alfred please see to it that he’s comfortable? before disappearing down into the Batcave and into Batman ( ... )
