#6:
Looking at my watch, I let out a soft sigh and tugged the collar of my coat lightly before jamming both my frozen hands into the pockets.
It's already eleven-thirty in the night, where are you?
Just then, my fingertips brushed against a small solid object and unconsciously, a smile was adorned on my lips. It was his birthday and I was planning to give him a surprise after he was released from work by waiting at his front gate.
However, three hours had passed and not a single sight of him was seen. Humming a familiar tune, I leaned against the cold wall, feeling the dampness soaking through my coat while tapping my shoes lightly on the snowy ground.
Again, I pushed up the sleeves of my coat and read the timing on my watch.
It’s twelve-thirty in the morning. Another hour had passed.
I looked around the still surrounding once more, hoping to see a sign of him but to no avail. Heaving a final heavy sigh, I got up and was about to walk away when I heard some soft whisperings. Turning my head slightly, I caught the sight of him and a smile was painted across on my lips.
However, as my gaze shifted to the person beside him, my face fell instantly. It was her, his current girlfriend. I watched painfully as he brushed away a few strands of hair that were covering her face before leaning in and gave a peck on her lips. The place was so quiet that I thought I heard the sound of my heart cracked.
I bit my lips hard as they broke apart slowly and his arms were wrapped around her body, pulling her closer to him. I tried to blink away the tears that were forming on the corner of my eyes. Turning around on my heels, I started to walk away slowly with warm tears brimming in my eyes.
"Aoi-chan? Aoi-chan!"
I heard my name being called but I refused to turn around. I tightened my grip around the small object in my pocket.
"Aoi-chan, wait up!"
Again, I've decided to block out the voice.
Just keep on walking, Aoi. Don't you dare to stop.
My pace became faster and I could hear the sound of the footsteps behind me catching up. Just as I was about to break into a run, a hand grabbed my arm and spun me around. I found myself being face to face with him.
"It's really you, Aoi-chan," he exclaimed softly with a hint of relieve and released his grip on me.
Somehow, I could still feel his touch lingering there. I didn't dare to stare into his eyes, afraid that he might see the tears in my eyes.
"Why are you here? It's late in the night and you should be staying at home. It's really dangerous for you to be outside now," he reprimanded lightly.
His words didn't make me smile like usual. Instead, I felt my heart being squeezed. I flashed a small smile at him while hiding all my emotions behind.
"It's still your birthday half an hour ago, right?" I asked and he dropped his gaze, checking the time on his watch before nodding.
I forced myself to smile even harder though my heart was already throbbing in so much pain.
"I thought that I should pay you a visit since we haven't seen each other for quite some time and pass the birthday present to you," I explained.
My voice was already trembling and I squeezed the small object in my hands tightly. My hand hurts, but my heart hurt a million times more. Our eyes were locked for a few seconds before he broke away.
"Ah, I see. Ri-chan wanted to give me a birthday surprise so that's why I didn't come home straight after work," he explained with my favourite smile while pointing in her direction.
My gaze followed and I saw his girlfriend standing outside of the gate, waving at us. I waved back lightly before averted my gaze back to him.
"I bet you were touched," I teased with a smile.
He nodded shyly and ruffled his hair lightly. My smile faded when I saw a light shade of pink on his cheeks.
"So, you said you wanted to pass my present to me. Where is it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow while his eyes were looking up and down, trying to search for his present.
I shook my head and flashed a sheepish smile.
"I'm sorry, Dai-chan. I just remembered that I've left it at home so I was actually heading home to get it," I apologized with my hands clasped together in front of my face.
Our eyes were locked again and I could feel his gaze piercing right into my eyes, as if to make sure that I was telling him the truth. As the pain grew stronger, I decided to break the stare and looked away, which he followed suit too.
"No, no, it's alright. You can just pass it to me when you're free," he said quickly, waving his hands.
I nodded slightly before looking at the time on my watch and pretended to gasp.
"Ah! It's already one in the morning?!"
I could feel his eyes staring at me suspiciously and I knew I must get out of the place soon. Looking up at him with a small smile, I pushed him lightly in the direction of his girlfriend.
"I should be heading home now. I'll talk to you soon. You should go and accompany your girlfriend! It's really bad of you to make her wait outside in such a cold weather. Ja," I said jokingly and waved lightly before turning around.
The moment my face was out of his sight, tears ran down my cheeks uncontrollably. Jamming my hands into the pockets, I sobbed silently while staring up at the dark sky.
Arioka Daiki, you were never mine in the first place. And you'll never be in the future too.
It’s because you belong to her and not me.
#7:
“Oi, Hikaru! Return my bag to me!” I shouted loudly while glaring hard at the guy.
He stuck out his tongue and ran out into the hallway.
“Oi! Where do you think you’re going with my bag? Return it back to me!” I yelled as I chased after him.
We ran around the whole school and finally back to the classroom, panting heavily.
“Whoa, Miyuki, Hikaru, did the both of you just ran around of the entire school or something?” Rei asked and I nodded while glaring hard at him.
“This idiot made me ran around every single corner of the school and still refuse to return my bag,” I said breathlessly, no longer have any strength to shout at him.
“Eh? Are you serious, Miyuki? Ne, Hikaru, do you like our Miyuki?” Rei asked out of the blue and this time round, the both of us stared at her, stupefied.
What? Is she out of her mind or something? How can she ask him such a ridiculous question?
“Are you kidding me, Rei-chan? I like Miyuki? You must have eaten something wrong today,” he scoffed loudly and averted his gaze to me.
“No guys on this Earth will like her, please. She’s such a tomboy,” he commented before throwing my bag over and I managed to catch it in time.
This bastard! He’s really trying hard to get it from me uh?
“Whatever. It’s not like as if I’ll ever fall for guys like you,” I retorted loudly, placing my bag back on the handle at the side of my table and leaned over to him.
“You aren’t even charming, please,” I whispered with a smug look before facing back to my friends.
---------------------------------------------------------
As I plopped down against my soft bed sheets, I closed my eyes in an attempt to relax myself.
“No guys on this Earth will like her, please. She’s such a tomboy.”
Immediately, my eyes flew wide open and my eyebrows twitched followed by a frown.
What’s wrong with me? Why did I suddenly think of that idiot’s statement?
Just as I was about to close my eyes again, another statement appeared in my mind.
“Ne, Hikaru, do you like our Miyuki?”
Again, my eyes widened and I ruffled my hair in distress.
Argh! Seriously, why do I keep thinking about these ridiculous things?
As if everything was linked by a single thread, everything about him began to appear in my mind. His face. His smile. His laughter. His voice.
My heart leaped at the thought of him and began to pound furiously. Slowly, a smile crept its way across my lips. That was when I realized that I had actually fallen in love with him without knowing.
Rolling over, I covered my face with the pillow.
This is going to be so embarrassing. I just told him right in the face that I wouldn’t fall for him and now, I’ve actually did it. This is…really bad…
---------------------------------------------------------
“Ne Miyuki, let’s go to Shibuya today,” Rei said, tugging my sleeves which made me chuckled.
“Sure. Anything you say,” I agreed instantly.
As soon as the class was dismissed, the both of us headed for our destination right away. After hours of window shopping, we decided that it was time for us to head home. While walking past a café, Rei tugged on my sleeves repeatedly and pointed at someone in the café.
“Who is that?” I asked while trying to squint my eyes at the person.
“It’s Hikaru!” she answered immediately and my heart skipped beat upon hearing his name.
“Hi-hikaru? Are you sure?” I asked again and she nodded quickly.
“Eh, hold on for a second. I think he’s with a girl,” she said with both her eyes narrowed.
“He’s with a girl?” I repeated and before I knew, I was already inside the café, heading towards his direction.
“Rei-chan, wait a min-“
“Hey, Hikaru!” Rei greeted and he looked up promptly, darting his eyes between the both of us.
“Oh hey. What are the both of you doing here?” he asked with his usual goofy smile.
At that moment, I thought I saw him staring at us nervously. Rei narrowed her eyes at him and pointed to the girl sitting opposite of him.
“Who’s she?” she whispered softly while the girl was smiling at us politely since Hikaru had told her that we were his friends.
Hikaru stared at us for a brief moment before chuckling softly.
“Oh, I should have told the both of you earlier. She’s my girlfriend. We’ve been dating for almost half a year now,” he introduced and my eyes widened immediately.
At that split second, my mind went completely blank and my heart felt like it had been ripped apart. Tapping hard on Rei’s shoulder, my gaze was unable to focus on her.
“I-I…I need to go somewhere now. I…I’ll see y-you to-tomorrow,” I stuttered at my words and dashed out of the café.
Upon stopping on my tracks, I realized that I was outside of the train station. Slowly, I walked my way into the train station. After I had reached the platform, my mind was still in a mess. The train arrived and I went in. Leaning against the door, my eyes were fixed on the views outside of the window.
“We’ve been dating for almost half a year now.”
That sentence echoed in my head repeatedly as if it was on a loop. Warm tears began to gather at the corner of my eyes and I tried to blink it away.
Just when I realized my feelings for you, you were already attached. Does that mean whatever you commented on earlier was true?
Why did I dig out my feelings when it’s only an unrequited love?
I closed my eyes and bit my lips hard.
I’ve already fallen hard for you and it’s going to be hard for me now.
My unrequited love, Yaotome Hikaru.
#8:
“Natsume, have you heard that Kei-kun had broken up with his girlfriend again yesterday?”
I shrugged and shook my head.
Well, it’s not that surprising to me. This is already the hundredth time I’m hearing that news.
A sudden vibration from the pocket of my skirt made me snapped out of those thoughts. I fished out my phone and flipped it open.
Staring at the name of the sender, I couldn’t help but to roll my eyes.
From: Annoying Kei
Message: Hey. Meet me at the rooftop after your dismissal later ♥
I flipped my phone shut and stuffed it back into my pocket. Burying my face into my palms for the brief moment, I made a quick decision and placed my hands back on the table.
Right, I’m not going to meet him. Definitely mustn’t.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The bell rang, indicating the end of school for that day, and my bag was placed nicely on the table. As I stood up and took a step out of my seat, I heard a tap on the table and turned around.
“Natsume, are you going to the shopping mall with us later?”
I shook my head with a smile.
“I don’t think I can make it. I’ve something on later. I’ll tag along next time. Bye!” I bid and headed out of the classroom.
While walking along the hallway, I thought about my spoken words earlier on.
I’ve something on later? Why did I even say that? What was I thinking earlier on?
Just then, another vibration shot through my skirt and a frown appeared on my face. Flipping my phone open, I read the message and raised my eyebrows.
From: Annoying Kei
Message: Where are you, my dear? I’m waiting for you at the rooftop since school had dismissed. Don’t leave without me. Please~ (cry)
I rolled my eyes again as I closed my phone with a loud snap.
He sure does like to sweet talk to girls.
Setting my lips into a grim line, I headed my way towards the rooftop.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
As I pushed the door open, I was blinded by the bright light that shone directly on my face. All of a sudden, a hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me away. My back hit against the wall and I blinked a few times, trying hard to get rid of the small spots in my eyes. When my vision had recovered, I found myself staring into another pair of dark brown orbs.
“Kei?” I called out and he flashed his charming smile at me.
“At last, you still came. I’m really happy, Natsume,” he said huskily with my favourite smile and I froze on the spot.
My heart stopped listening to my command and began to pound faster. I closed my eyes, trying to avoid his eye-piercing stare and tried to breathe slowly. Just then, I felt my hair being touched and opened my eyes. There he was, standing directly in front of me with one arm palmed against the wall and the other caressing my hair gently.
“Natsume, you seemed very displeased to see me today,” he said with a slight pout and I rolled my eyes at him, smacking his hand away from my hair.
“You’re so slow, Kei,” I said with a slight frown and he raised his eyebrows at my sentence.
“I’m always displeased to see you ever since I know you,” I commented and he flashed a painful look at me, as if I had just kicked him in the shin.
“Whatever. I won’t buy that. I still have more important things to do. See you around in school. Bye,” I said quickly and turned around.
The moment I took another step towards the door, his other arm brushed past my body and palmed hard against the wall, locking me in between his arms. My eyes widened and I could feel his warm breath tickling my right ear. Slowly, he shifted closer towards me until I was totally pinned against the wall.
Oh crap.
I bit my lips and lowered my head. Even so, he doesn’t seem to let me off. Placing his finger under my chin, he lifted up my head and stared deep into my eyes. I tried to look away but to no avail. His gaze was piercing right into my soul, as if he was trying to read my mind. Flashing a crooked smile, he leaned in slowly.
Oh no. What is he trying to do?
My heart was pounding so hard that it almost made me breathless and my cheeks were burning hot. I guessed that it must have become crimson red. At the same time, I could feel his warm breath tickling my face and his lips brushed against mine.
Wa-wait. Is he serious about it? I don’t think he’s going to kiss me...right?
The next time I knew was his lips pressed fully against mine. As if my senses were short-circuited, my mind went blank instantly. Something within me exploded and I could feel his arms snaked around my waist. As his lips pressed harder against mine, I was forced to open my mouth. But before he could do anything further, his phone rang and he broke the kiss away promptly.
“Hello? Oh, it’s Rin-chan,” he said loudly and took a quick glance in my direction.
I looked away in embarrassment and gripped onto my school bag tightly.
“Ah, I see. So you’re alone right now?” he asked and this time round, I could feel his stare on me for a longer time before he turned away.
Rin-chan? His friend? It’s more like meeting his soon-to-be-girlfriend. I’ll definitely hear another news tomorrow.
“Alright, I’ll find you right away. So, be patient and wait for me, my love,” he finished off and closed his phone with snap.
To my surprise, he placed his hand on my head and patted lightly.
“I’m going to meet my friend now, so I can’t see you home today. See you tomorrow, bye!” he bided cheerfully and I heard the door closed.
Looking straight, I glided down the wall and collapsed onto the ground. My fingers traced my lips unconsciously and I could still feel the touch of his lips lingering on mine. Closing my eyes, I shook my head roughly for a few times. However, the scene earlier replayed in my mind as if it was on a loop. I heaved a sigh in defeat.
Maybe I had happened to display my feelings on accident.
Maybe he knew about my feelings for him.
Maybe…I don’t know…
But whatever the case is, I can’t believe I still love him for everything.
Inoo Kei, you bastard. How did you even make me fall head over heels for you?
Though I hate to admit, but I…really do love you, Kei.
#9:
“I’m home,” I called loudly as I took off my shoes and headed into the house.
“Oh, welcome home, Kaiko, Yuya-kun!” my mother squealed in joy upon seeing him and held out her hands.
At first, I thought she wanted to give me a hug so I went straight towards her. However, she brushed past me and I spun around.
“Kaa-san!” I said impatiently and clicked my tongue loudly in the progress.
She’s always like this whenever that idiot comes to my house. This is so unfair! Am I her real daughter or is he her real son?
I watched as she gave Yuya a hug and rolled my eyes.
“Oh? Our Kaiko is jealous,” my mother teased and I frowned at her before stomping up the stairs into my room.
Plopping face-down onto my bed, I breathed in my own scent from the pillow and just then, the door clicked open.
“Hey, you’re going to sleep so soon?”
A scowl ran across my face and I sat up immediately. Glaring at him, I looked away with a slight pout. I heard him chuckled and closed the door before he joined me on the bed.
“I heard from your mum that you’re jealous when I hugged her,” he said softly while his fingers were twirling with my hair.
I shuddered lightly at his touch and bit my lips.
Oh crap. I shouldn’t have let him in!
“So…do you want me to give you a hug as well?” he whispered softly into my ear and I froze.
Is he teasing me right now? Oh my god, what on earth is happening?
That sentence made my mind went haywire and my heart started to pound faster. Shaking my head, I was about to get up when he grabbed my wrist and spun me around. Due to his strong pull, I stumbled and fell into his arms. My eyes widened and words were stuck at my throat.
His arms snaked around my waist and tightened the hug. I could feel his warm breath tickling on my neck and blood began to rush to my cheeks.
My cheeks feel burning hot. I must be in beet red now! It’s entirely his fault!
“So how does the hug feel? Are you enjoying it?” he whispered softly again and began to stroke my hair lightly.
His touch made my scalp numbed and sent an electric shock through my body. Immediately, I pushed him away with all my might and ran out of the room. Leaning against the door, I took panted heavily.
I almost lost my control in front of him. I…hate him...
---------------------------------------------
“Kaiko, bring this to Yuya-kun’s house after you’ve finished your dinner,” my mother instructed and I shot a glare at her.
“Why can’t you bring it over to him by yourself?” I retorted with a frown and she raised her eyebrows.
“Are you sure you want me to bring it over? Don’t you want to meet him again?” she teased and my eyes widened.
“Kaa…san!” I shouted and she laughed loudly.
“Oh dear, how cute can our dear Kaiko be? You’re blushing like a red tomato now. My daughter, you really love Yuya-kun, don’t you?”
That sentence probably made my cheeks flushed another few shades darker.
Kaa-san sure likes to tease me a lot, especially when it’s related to Yuya.
“Well, so all the more you should bring it over. That’s a promise,” she finished off and headed up the stairs before I could say anything else.
I let out a sigh and shrugged.
I’ll just drop it on his dining table and head back.
---------------------------------------------
“Yuya? Yuya, are you in there?” I called while knocking on the door but there was no reply.
My eyebrows twitched and frowned slightly.
I thought he had just gone home earlier?
Turning the doorknob, I realized that it was left opened. Pushing it opened slightly, I took a quick glance around the house.
Well, seems like he isn’t in the living room. But why did he leave the door open? This is really unsafe!
I tiptoed into the house quietly and went straight towards the kitchen. As soon as I placed the box on the dining table, I heard some whisperings in the room and unconsciously, my heart began to pound wildly. Then I decided to take a look as well as reprimand him for leaving the door opened.
When I reached the room, I realized that it was left slightly opened. I took in a deep breath and leaned closed to the gap, taking a peek. Just then, my eyes widened and my jaws dropped. Taking a few steps back, I almost bumped into a wall. Turning around on my heels, I dashed out of the house immediately.
Running into my house, I didn’t stop even when my mother held me back to ask me what was wrong. I continued to run into my room and plopped face-down on my bed. The scene stayed in my mind and remained there.
There was another girl sitting on his lap and the both of them seemed to be having a rather intimidated and passionate kiss.
The feeling of hurt and sadness boost within me and tears started to stain the bed sheets.
All along, he had someone else and I was the foolish one, thinking that there’d be a chance between the two of us.
But I just can’t get him out of my head. That hug, I wish I’d tell him that I didn't want to let go.
For all he knows, I love him with my entire heart.
#10:
It’s a Saturday uh? I can finally relax.
Lying on my bed, I blast my favourite song through my headphones and closed my eyes. Just then, I felt a vibration on my side and took a glimpse at my phone.
Eh? An unknown caller?
Usually, I wouldn’t pick up unknown calls because I was afraid that they were prank calls and most of the time, I would save the numbers of the people I know. However, at the point of time, something told me that I had to pick up that call. Hitting the ‘Answer’ button, I placed the phone against my ear.
“Hello? This is Inoue Suzume speaking.”
I heard some voices on the other side and frowned slightly.
Guess it's just another prank call after all. I shouldn’t have answered it in the first place.
Just as I was about to remove the phone from my ear, a voice appeared suddenly.
“Hello? Hello, Suzume, are you still there?”
Immediately, my brain began to search for the owner of the voice. It sounded so familiar.
“Yeah, I’m still listening. May I know who are you?”
“Oh, right. I should have told you my name earlier. I’m…”
His voice sounded like…
“Kota. Yabu Kota.”
…Kota…
My eyes widened instantly.
“Kota? Do you mean the Yabu Kota in High School?” I blurted and heard some chuckles on the other line.
“Yeah, that’s me, the Yabu Kota from High School. I guess you must be surprised, right?”
That sentence made me laugh. I couldn’t believe that he did contact me after so many years! We continued to chat, exchanging about our daily lives, before he said that he had to go and we hanged up.
Flipping the phone shut, I put on my headphones and just in time to hear the next shuffled song. It was First Love by Utada Hikaru. Immediately, memories from High School entered my mind. Unconsciously, a smile was adorned on my lips.
He was the first person whom I loved so dearly. He is…Yabu Kota.
That night, I fell asleep while clutching tightly onto my phone.
--------------------------------------
After that day, we began to call up each other frequently and sometimes, it was just for the fun of it. Slowly, I felt myself falling for him again.
Those feelings from the past, it’s returning again.
Before I realized, I fell in love with him once again. Then one particular day, he rang me up as usual and I was excited to receive his call.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Suzume. Are you free tomorrow?”
I raised my eyebrows as my heart began to pound hard.
“Y-yeah, I’m free. Why did you ask?”
Is he going to ask me out for a date? No, wait, calm down, Suzume. He’s probably just going to ask you out because it’s been a long time since the last time you met him. Yeah, it should be like this.
“That’s great! I was wondering if you’ll like to meet up tomorrow, like for some casual chatting.”
I wanted to squeal loudly but he’d hear it. So I decided to suppress that excitement within me and tried to answer him calmly.
“Y-yeah, s-sure. Let’s meet up. It’s been a long time since I saw you.”
If there was a mirror right in front of me, I’d probably scare myself off. I was grinning ear to ear. In fact, I was over the moon.
Yes! I can finally meet him again! I wonder if he has any girlfriend currently. I hope not.
“Yeah, me too. Well, have you thought of anything to do tom-“
My eyebrows twitched as his sentence was cut away and I heard a female voice on the other line.
“Kota, who are you talking to?” the female voice asked and I couldn’t help but to feel uneasy.
“Oh, it’s just my old High School friend, Aya,” he answered and my mind began to drift off.
Aya? It couldn’t be his older sister because I knew her. Who could this Aya be?
“Hmm, is it a girl? Mou, Kota, you told me that you wouldn’t talk to any girls other than me,” the female voice whined and a disgusted feeling washed over me.
He couldn’t talk to any girls other than her? Who does she think she is? His girlfriend?
And that made my eyes widened.
Her name is Aya. She called him ‘Kota’ and even said that he couldn’t talk to any girls other than her. All these three things fulfilled the criteria of her being his girlfriend. So he has a girlfriend?
“Yes, it’s a girl and I’m currently speaking to her on the phone. Aya, I’ll explain to you later. Let me finish my conversation with her first,” he said and his voice returned to the phone.
“Hey, I’m sorry. So where did we stop?” he asked with a slight chuckle and somehow, that chuckle irked me.
“It’s okay. Before we continue, is she your girlfriend?” I asked bluntly, not wanting to beat around the bush.
“Oh, you mean Aya, the girl I spoke to earlier? Uh, yeah, she’s my current girlfriend. We’ve been dating for around a few months now,” he answered with hint of surprise in his tone.
For some unknown reasons, his reply didn’t make me feel angry or heart-broken. Instead, I felt kind of relieved.
“Oh, I see. Well, I’m sort of busy right now. We’ll discuss about this later or something. Bye,” I said coldly and hanged up before he could say anything.
Throwing my phone to the side, I ruffled my hair lightly and laughed to myself.
Suzume, you’re so naïve. How can you even have the slightest thought that he’s actually single and available?
He has always been so popular around girls, even in High School.
Well, this just means that the both of you aren’t meant to be. Forget about him.
Staring at my phone, I nodded my head and put on my headphones, blasting the songs into my ears.
Right, forget about him. Forget about Yabu Kota.
A/N: Right, here's the update of the second part of the drabble. It's the BEST's part! Hmm, I'm thinking of perhaps taking a few of these drabbles and make it into a one-shot. Well, that's just my thought. The real thing might drag on since I'm going to be quite busy when school reopens. Oh well. Anyway, enjoy and do comment! :D
