Chapter 12 For the next two weeks, Ryoko was like a lifeless zombie. She had skipped the practices and interviews from various magazines and variety shows. No matter how many times her phone rang, she refused to pick it up and pretended not to hear. Yuusuke, Mizuki and even Natsume went and tried to talk to her but to no avail. She would sit on her bed and stared blankly at the wall in front. Her face was expressionless and her eyes were red and swollen.
Closing Ryoko’s room door quietly, Yuusuke shook his head with a sigh.
“I can’t continue to let her go on like this. No matter how much we tried to console her, she refused to listen. Ah, I’m going crazy soon!” he said with annoyance and ruffled his hair roughly.
Mizuki took a glance at him and sighed as well. Just then, an idea popped up into her mind.
“Otou-san, I’ve an idea,” she said suddenly with a grin on her face and patted continuously on his shoulder.
“What is it? Say it quickly!” he hissed impatiently and Mizuki smiled at him.
“Invite Yamada-kun to our house.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
“She’s in her room, at the second floor,” Yuusuke said while pointing at the stairs and Ryosuke nodded with a bow before walking up the stairs.
Immediately after Ryosuke had disappeared from their sight, Yuusuke nudged Mizuki impatiently.
“Are you sure that it will work?”
Mizuki nodded with a grin and gave him a thumb up. Just then, Yuusuke tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows. Crossing his arms together, he looked at Mizuki strangely.
“Hold on a second, Mizuki. Why must we invite Yamada-kun only? Why isn’t the whole of JUMP?” he asked slowly with his eyes narrowed, eyeing her suspiciously.
Mizuki faked a laugh and flashed him a silly grin.
“Well…otou-san…you know…”
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryosuke knocked on the door twice but there was no response. Turning the door knob, he pushed open the door. His eyes scanned the room and finally fixed upon the figure on the bed.
“Ryoko…,” he called out as he walked towards her.
Cupping his hand against her face, his thumb stroked her cheek gently. His gaze softened and his heart was aching. Her face was tear-stricken and her eyes were red and swollen as well. Her eyes felt so empty that Ryosuke couldn't feel her presence anymore. Moving his hand to the back of her head, he pulled her in gently and stroked her hair slowly.
The smell of his cologne entered her nose and tears started to form at the corner of her eyes.
“Ryosuke…,” she sobbed as tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Instead of replying, Ryosuke set his lips into a grim line and continued to smooth her hair. After what felt like hours, Ryoko finally stopped crying. Breaking the hug, she wiped her tears with her hands and Ryosuke stopped her. Placing her hands back to her sides, Ryosuke thumbed away her tears gently and curved his lips into a bitter smile.
“It pains me to see you crying. Look at your eyes, it’s so swollen and red,” he whispered softly and brushed his thumb lightly against her eyelids.
“Don’t cry anymore, Ryoko. Don’t bottle up everything to yourself. You still have me and the rest of JUMP. We’ll always be by your side.”
Ryoko bit her lips as warm tears began to form at the back of her eyes again. Tilting her chin up with his finger, he locked their gaze together.
“Don’t cry. You’ve all of us with you. This question is from the whole of JUMP. Will you come back and join us again?”
Ryoko closed her eyes and thought for a moment. Memories with JUMP flashed through her mind at a fast speed and finally, she nodded her head.
“I’ll return to join everyone again,” she said softly and Ryosuke smiled.
Leaning in, he locked his lips with hers and the both of them realized how much they had missed each other.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
“Welcome back!”
The ten members shouted loudly and wolf-whistled to welcome her return into the group. Ryoko smiled widely at the warm welcome and a warm feeling washed over her. Somehow, she was really glad that she had agreed to return.
All of them are just like family to me.
During their break time, all of them gathered in a corner of the practice room and started chatting. Halfway through, the door suddenly clicked open and everyone shifted their attention to it.
“Who could it be?” Ryoko asked and the other members shrugged.
None of them was informed that there would be someone finding them that day. Just then, a figure appeared at the door and everyone’s eyes widened.
“Yuma?” Ryosuke and Yuuri called out together which Yuma flashed a smile and held up a hand to say hi while walking towards them.
“What brings you here, Yuma?” Ryosuke asked, punching lightly on Yuma’s shoulder.
Yuma punched back lightly on Ryosuke’s shoulder and chuckled before averting his gaze to Ryoko who stiffened upon locking their gaze.
“I need to borrow your girlfriend for a while,” Yuma whispered quietly into Ryosuke’s ear and Ryosuke stared at him widely.
“Ryoko?” he repeated and Yuma nodded.
Ryosuke turned to look at Ryoko who was surprised as well. Ryoko darted her eyes nervously between Yuma and Ryosuke before sending a help look to Ryosuke. Yuma, who saw that Ryoko was rather fearful of him, flashed a warm smile at her.
“I won’t do anything to you. I just need to have a talk with you,” he said with reassurance before turning around to look at the other members.
“Am I interrupting anything?”
The members exchanged glances before looking at Yuma and shook their heads. Yuma nodded and shifted his gaze to Ryoko again.
“I’ll be waiting for you outside then,” he said before bidding goodbye to the other members and headed out of the room.
After he had left the room, everyone turned around to look at Ryoko, waiting for her answer. Just then, Ryosuke placed both his hands on her shoulders.
“Yuma won’t do anything to you. I think he just wants to talk to you about his father,” Ryosuke said with a smile and patted her shoulders lightly.
Ryoko turned to look at the other members who gave her a reassuring look and finally nodded her head. Standing up, she walked towards the door and taking in a deep breath, she pushed open the door and headed outside.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The both of them stood side by side while leaning against the wall and stared at the sky opposite. Just then, Yuma turned his head slightly and took a good look at Ryoko.
“Looking at you closely now, I guess I can say that we do share some similarities,” he said with hint of happiness and Ryoko darted her eyes away from his.
“I-I’m sorry, but do you have anything else to talk about? Or else, I’m going back in now,” she said quickly and just as her fingertips brushed against the door handle, Yuma spoke.
“Otou-san has only a few more months to live.”
Her eyes widened and her fingers trembled. Her mouth fell open slightly but all the words were choked at her throat. She couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
“He has been battling against the illness for the last few years and the doctor had recently told him that he have only another few months left to live,” Yuma said quietly, staring at Ryoko who was still stunned by the news.
Unable to control his emotions, Yuma walked up to her and grabbed her shoulder, spinning her around to face him.
“Onee-chan!” he shouted and shook her lightly.
Ryoko’s eyes widened as she locked their gaze together once again.
“W-wh-what d-did yo-you just called me?” she stuttered in shock.
“Onee-chan. You’re my Onee-chan!” he said loudly and Ryoko shook her head.
How can this be? Why is he calling me Onee-chan so suddenly? Why is that man left with only a few months to live? What’s happening?
She shook her head again and collapsed onto the floor. Yuma kneeled down and shook her shoulders lightly again.
“Otou-san told me about what he did to you and your mother that day after you left with JUMP at the backstage. He cried while telling me that he was really sorry. He was young that time and didn’t know that what he did was wrong. That was the first time I saw him cried. I-I know I’m not in any place to say this but Onee-chan, can you forgive Otou-san for last time?” Yuma begged and tears fell from Ryoko’s eyes.
“He has only a few months left to leave. He felt really guilty towards you and your mother. For the past ten years, he was searching for the both of you. At first, he hesitated because he knew he couldn’t face either of you after doing such terrible thing. However, the thought of it kept bugging him and he finally decided to find the both of you. Onee-chan…,” Yuma pleaded and shook Ryoko harder this time round.
“I…I don’t know…,” she finally spoke and Yuma frowned slightly.
“I was plotting my revenge against him all along because of him, my mother suffered way too much than she deserved and almost took her life away. I couldn’t forgive him. But now…you said that he’s going to die in a few months’ time, my mind is in a whirlpool now,” she confessed and started to sob.
Yuma looked at her sadly before pulling her into an embrace.
“I apologize on behalf of Otou-san. You had suffered a lot. I’m really sorry, Onee-chan. Otou-san had been always guilty towards the both of you that he didn’t dare to appear in front of you two. He’s left with only a few months. Please forgive him, Onee-chan. I beg you,” Yuma said with his voice trembling and tears rolling down from the corner of his eyes.
Unconsciously, Ryoko grabbed his shirt tightly and the both of them started to sob.
I can’t continue with my revenge anymore.
I can’t forgive him for what he did to Kaa-san either.
I can never forget how he had left us when we were at our weakest time.
But I can’t believe that this man who made us suffered is dying soon.
What should I do, Kaa-san? God, tell me what should I do. Please tell me...
Next Chapter A/N: Yeap, another update is here. Right, I had a hard time thinking what I should do to Ryoko's father. Please don't think that I'm a sadistic person. Honestly speaking, I dislike having to put my characters in pain (as in make them get sick and die or some terminal disease). Well, but in this case, I really can't think of anything else. So pardon me m(_ _)m Alright. Enjoy and do comment! :D
