so my mel gibson movie is slowing down. i realized im not against his movie really, or him, but rather im concerned with the outcome of people seeing the movie and not thinking about the context and the historical inaccuracies. i mean, mel gibson even said, its his rendition, "i dont care if 'it is as it was' because [for me] it is what it is." its ( Read more... )

While I don't really like the idea of Gibson's film, I think it's absurd for anyone to claim it is or isn't historically accurate until they've seen it. No offense to you, I've seen tons of people do it.

of the people who have seen it, namely the head of the ADL and some other more concerned Christians (who also contributed to Newsweeks "who really killed Jesus") have related to the public, that the movie depicts the Sanhadrin, the jewish court, as aggrssive and urging Pontius Pilate, a reluctant and soft man, to kill Jesus. Josephus, considered one of the first historians, records that in Judea at the time, Pilate was extremely harsh, and actually was brought to Rome to be questioned on his violent executions of hundreds of the people of Judea. Not only that but HE was in control of the Sanhadrin and not the other way around, he told them when they could wear certain religious articles and conduct services in the Temple.

i dont know you....
but,who gives a shit what happened, its not the end of the world. theres bigger things to worry about besides an entertaining movie. there have always been movies with controversial things in it, so just because you disagree with it doesn't mean its wrong. oh, and the adl is not a christian website, its a strictly jewish website fighting anti-semitism.
there have always been movies that have made christians, muslims, and jews unhappy. however, this country is founded on the principle of freedom of speech and gibson is excercising it. and the ADL's actions are outrageous in my opinion. im not alone: http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=%5CCulture%5Carchive%5C200311%5CCUL20031110a.html

your right. the ADL isnt a chrisitan group, i know that but i also realized that how i wrote it made it seem that it was. movies have always been controversial but passion plays like this one are notorious for arousing anti-semitic feeling. i do hope your right and that nothing comes of it. that would be best. on the other hand im not sure what you think is outrageous about the ADL, they have free speech also.

I am totally going to see The Passion of Christ- I need to form my own opinion of it because half of the people are saying its extremely antisemetic and the other is saying that its just based on the bible. It will be interesting.

DUde the OC is one tonight. And I love that show- cause its so addictive in a teenage soap opera kind of way lol. I think its stupid that Luke is fucking Marissa's mom though.
