Jared was tired. It was already seven thirty. He had been working from six a.m. so it meant he had been working over thirteen hours. He changed from his scrubs to his clothes and took out his backpack from the locker. Finally, he could go home but a rest wasn’t an option. He was helping Dr. Campbell’s research and he was behind schedule. He was due to read treatises and gather sources for Dr. Campbell but he hadn’t finished half of them. It was his third-year in his residency programs for a surgeon, he was tied up all day in the hospital but he volunteered to help him. Jared was a so-called genius but he didn’t think himself as a genius. He just thrived on challenges especially intellectual ones. More than everything, curiosity and pursuit of truth were happiness for Jared. That made Dr. Jared Padalecki M.D. at twenty one. He was already a student of pre-med at fourteen and completed medical school at eighteen. His friends were still in college, sometimes he found it difficult to hang out with them. Well, not only friends but also his girlfriends or boyfriends. His relationships didn’t last more than three months. For Jared, work and study had priority over everything and nobody could put up with that. Maybe Jared was selfish or he never fell in love with any of them. He liked them but he never felt an urge to throw everything away for them. He could hook up in club when he was horny; he was satisfied with it now. He walked to the parking lot for his bicycle. It only took twenty minutes from his apartment to the hospital by bike so he didn’t bother to buy a car. If he needed to spend time on the road because of traffic it would be a waste of time. When he was planning the orders to which treatise he needed to read, his cell phone rang. He checked the caller ID. It was Chad. Chad had been his friend since they were in kindergarten. They couldn’t meet often when Jared came to LA for college. But Chad chose to enter UCLA three years ago; they managed to return to their usual friendship. Chad was a good friend but sometimes he could annoy just Jared. Today was annoying Chad.
“Hey, man.”
“Hey, what’s up?” Jared answered the phone and grimaced at the volume of the music behind Chad’s voice.
“You know there’s a great party here. You definitely need to come.” Chad slurred over the phone.
“Yeah, but I have to work. Sorry.”
“No, no, no, Jared. You should come. When did you last get laid? Man. Like eons ago. You work toooo fucking much.” Chad was definitely drunk.
“Thanks for reminding me.” Jared knew Chad meant well but he was too tired to handle it right now.
“Yeah, I’m fucking awesome buddy, right?” Chad didn’t notice the sarcasm in Jared’s voice.
“Sorry, I really need to work tonight. I’ll be there next time.” Jared knew there was no way to make logical conversation with drunken Chad so he wanted to end the call.
“Next time? Tomorrow then. New club will be open tomorrow night. From the rumor, the owner is the brother of a celebrity. I’m sure there will be tons of celebrities there. We definitely need to go.” Chad’s voice became dreamy.
Jared had no interest in celebrities and the opening night of new club? They’d probably need to wait for hours just to enter the club. Jared didn’t want to spend several hours just waiting. But right now, he needed to end of this conversation.
“Well, I’ll call you. I need to finish my work first.”
“Yeah, but I don’t think I can answer tonight. There’s this girl with great boobs and she’s crazy about me. Wow, she’s looking at me like she wants to eat me now. Man. I’m gonna get laid tonight.” Chad said with happy sigh.
“Wow, TMI. Man. Whatever, I’ll call tomorrow. Thanks anyway.” Jared was happy to end the call. He didn’t say that he would go to the new club; he just said he would call tomorrow. He didn’t lie, right? Jared got on his bike and headed home. His apartment was a three-story building and he lived on the second floor. It was old and there was no elevator or lock on the entrance hall. It wouldn’t be ideal place for young women to live, but neighbors weren’t bad and there weren’t vicious crimes until now. Well, just average crime rate. And Jared was content with his apartment for its location and cheap rent.
Jared parked the bike and climbed the stairs two at a time. He needed to sit on his comfortable couch and eat something hot not like the crap from the cafeteria in hospital. He entered his home and as soon as he locked the door he was diving to his couch. Jared threw off his shoes and sighed happily. He was so tempted to fall asleep just like that but the work was waiting. He sat up with a groan. But definitely food first. Jared was thinking about cooking but he didn’t have enough energy now. That would mean pizza. Jared stretched his arms and his shoulders popped. He felt like he was in his middle forties rather than twenty one. He dug out his phone from his pocket to order a pizza but there was a knock on the door. There was no one he could imagine to drop into his apartment except Chad. But there was no way it would be Chad. Chad was in party now. Jared answered with confusion.
“Yes?” He looked through peep hole. A guy was standing with boxes his hand.
“Pizza delivery!” The guy shouted to the door.
“But I didn’t order a pizza.” Jared answered as adding in his mind ‘at least not yet’.
“But I have your name. Jared Padalecki, right?” The guy waved a slip of paper in front of peep hole.
Jared opened a door. “Look. I’m sorry but I didn’t order.” Jared took the slip of paper and looked at it. There were his name, phone number and address. It was all correct. Jared was really confused. Chad? Maybe Chad played pranks on him. Usually Chad’s pranks were silly but Jared was glad with it tonight. Jared was hungry and he didn’t want to wait for pizza another thirty minutes.
“Yeah, it’s my name. I think my friend might order for me. Wait a minute. I’ll get money.” Jared went back to couch for his wallet but before he took it from his backpack, he heard the sound of his door unlocking. He looked back and he found the pizza guy entered his apartment and locked the door.
“What the…? What are you doing?” Jared took his phone on the coffee table instead of wallet. “I’ll call the police. Don’t move.” Jared intended to shout to stranger but his voice was small and trembling. And pathetically, his hand with cell phone was shaking.
“Calm down, Jared. I didn’t come to harm you. I just want to talk to you.” The pizza guy said soothing voice and held up his hand which didn’t hold the pizza boxes.
“Look. You can take anything you want. Here’s my wallet. That’s all I have. Please, just go. I won’t call the police.” Jared said with still trembling voice.
“I won’t do anything, please. Just want to talk to you. I don’t have any weapon. You can check. Would you just give me some time to talk to you? Then you’ll know I won’t hurt you. Please…” The pizza guy begged Jared.
Jared couldn’t stop feeling strange. Usually he would be the one who needed to beg but the intruder was begging him. “Are you… a stalker?” That could explain why the stranger knew his name and phone number.
“No. I’m not a stalker. If you give me time to explain, you’ll know who I am and I didn’t come to hurt you. Please?” Jared could notice the stranger looked like fighting back tears as he spoke.
“Just talk. No violence. And when you finish your talk you need to go. Okay?” Jared said, looking at the stranger’s green eyes to make sure.
“Yes, I promise. Thank you. My name is Jensen. Jensen Ackles. Nice to meet you.” The stranger, Jensen said to Jared smiling brightly. And Jared noticed it was really attractive.
“Do you mind if I put these boxes on the table? It’s still hot.”
Jared pointed coffee table. “Go ahead.”
“Thanks. I didn’t know what you like so I brought one pepperoni and one veggie. Is it okay with you?” Jensen asked putting the boxes on the table.
“I’m not a vegetarian.” Jared answered as watching Jensen’s movement cautiously.
“Good. Can I eat first? I think we need to eat it during it is still hot. I bet you don’t like cold pizza, right?” Jensen sat on the end of the couch and looked up Jared, grinning.
“What? You said you would talk.” Jared shot Jensen an incredulous look.
“Of course I will. Well, after eating pizza. Don’t worry there’s no poison in it. I just bought it from the place down the street. Have a seat and let’s eat.” Jensen patted the couch beside him. Jared was just staring Jensen dropping his mouth with surprise.
“Jared c’mon. I’m really hungry and I know you’re hungry too. Um…do you have pickles? I love pickles. And it would be awesome if you have vinegar.” Jensen said, grinning.
Jared couldn’t believe Jensen’s words. Jensen had intruded on Jared’s apartment and Jensen still had the nerve to ask pickles and vinegar? Jensen seemed like he had no intent to harm Jared at least. Jared sighed. “What? Vinegar with pizza? Jeez. No thanks for me.” Jared didn’t know why but he couldn’t think badly of this guy, Jensen. His expressive green eyes and smile made Jared forget Jensen was not his friend but intruder. Jared gave up fighting and headed to kitchen. “Okay. I have both. Happy now? I’ll even offer you a soda.” Jared took two plates from cabinet and took pickles and vinegar from refrigerator.
“Thanks. But water is good.”
“Okay.” Jared took bottle of water for Jensen and coke for himself. Jensen came to kitchen to help bring the vinegar and pickles to coffee table. They settled on the couch and started to eat.
Jensen took a slice of pizza on his plate and poured the vinegar over it. He bit and leaned back in the couch, throwing back his head. “Hmmm...” Jensen moaned happily, chewing his pizza. Jared couldn’t stop staring Jensen. He was so beautiful. Jared stared at Jensen’s long and lean neck which making Jared want to lick and want to hear Jensen’s moan not because of pizza but because of Jared’s tongue.
“Wow, it’s awesome.” Jensen grinned to Jared. Jared shook his head and tried to concentrate on the pizza on his plate. “Um… Good for you.” Jared was confused why his body reacted like this to perfect stranger Jensen. Jared lowered his eyes trying not to watch Jensen and concentrated on eating pizza. Maybe Chad was right. He really needed to get laid. Finally, they finished all the pizza. Jensen had eaten half of the bottles of pickles and vinegar. Jared sighed with a relief because he didn’t need to be tortured by Jensen’s sexy moans any more.
“Now, talk.” Jared said.
Jensen sat straight and looked at Jared. Jared hadn’t noticed until now but Jensen looked pale and tired. And very, very young.
“How old are you? Are you even legal?” Jared asked before he was thinking.
“Of course, I’m legal. I’m eighteen. I know you’re only three years older than me.” Jensen rolled his eyes exaggeratedly.
“Wow, sorry. No mean to offend.” Jared held up his hands in front of him.
“Okay. Well, I’ve already told my name. And now age. I came here to ask for your help. I really need a doctor and you’re the only one came up with.”
“Why me? I don’t know you. I haven’t heard even your name.” Jared couldn’t understand.
“I’ll tell you what you want to know, Jared. But you need to promise me first, you won’t stop me until I finish, okay? You can speak whatever you want after that. Can you promise me?” Jensen asked with pleading eyes. Jared nodded his head with agreement.
“Thanks, Jared. Um…I… I was born genetically engineered and I have uterus. It means… you know.” Jensen chewed his bottom lip nervously. “I’m pregnant and I’m in the second trimester, well, twenty weeks now. And you’re the father of the baby.”
“What!” Jared bolted from couch and shot Jensen an incredulous look. “What are you talking about? Men can’t be pregnant. Genetically engineered? That can’t be possible. I’ve never heard about experiment like that if that was true it must have been worldwide issue. And I swear I’ve never met you before. How could I’m the father your baby? You’re insane.”
“Jared, please. You promised me you would listen without stopping me, right?” Jensen pleaded.
Jared sat back on the couch reluctantly. “Okay, whatever.”
“Thanks. I was born in one of Morgan Foundation’s institutes and had been living there my whole life. You’ve never heard about this experiment because it’s been a secret. You’re the father of the baby even though today is the day we first met. I believe you can remember you donated your sperm. We selected your sperm because you’re far superior to other people intellectually as well as physically. Jeff, I bet you know his name Jeffrey Dean Morgan has planned to make it public when I give birth to healthy baby successfully. I was okay with being treated like a guinea pig because I had been treated like that my whole life, but my baby, I didn’t want my baby being treated like a guinea pig. I couldn’t stand it. I wanted to give my baby freedom so I ran away. It was three days ago. There was someone… someone who helped me to escape but he can’t help me anymore. There’s no one. It’s just me…I can’t handle this alone and most of all, I need a doctor who can help me. I’m not asking you help me all my life and you don’t have the responsibility for the baby. I just want you to help me until the baby is born. After that, I promise I won’t bother you. I’ll be gone with my baby so you can go back to your life. I know you can’t believe it but I swear it’s true. Please, help me.” Jensen finished his words and stared at Jared expectantly.
Jared was busy to sink in all the information from Jensen’s words and even after that he couldn’t speak anything for a while. Jensen was waiting patiently, sitting beside Jared. Finally, Jared could make a word. “Um…Honestly, yeah, it’s very hard to believe your words. I don’t know whether I can trust you or not.”
“Yeah, I understand. I don’t have any evidence to prove it to you except pregnancy test.” Jensen took out a paper bag from his pocket. “Anyway, I really need to use a bathroom. May I?” Jensen blushed.
“Sure. That’s the bathroom.” Jared pointed at the door behind the couch.
“Thanks.” Jensen entered the bathroom and closed door.
Jared didn’t know what to do. It was true that he couldn’t believe Jensen’s words but it was also true that he couldn’t tell it was a lie. From Jensen’s voice and expression, Jared could hardly doubt Jensen’s sincerity. It was hard to believe Jensen’s words were a lie. As Jared was afflicted, Jensen came out of bathroom holding the pregnancy test.
“Well… See? It’s positive.” Jensen showed it to Jared and he could see the line on it which showed the test was positive. Jared just sat in silence.
“If you want a blood pregnancy test, it’s okay. But you need to promise me that you’ll keep the secret about me.” Jensen sighed with a weary look.
Jared could notice Jensen’s little bump on his belly now. Jared cleared his throat. “No. You don’t have to. I believe you’re pregnant. Um…But I need time to think. Will you?”
Jensen nodded his head and beamed at Jared. “Yeah, sure. Thanks, Jared. I really appreciate it.”
“Wow, wait. I didn’t say I would help you yet. And I’m a surgeon, not an obstetrician.”
“I know you’re a surgeon. But I don’t have anyone else and at least you’re a doctor. I just wanted to thank you for listening and believe me. Frankly, I don’t have much time so would you be able to make up your mind by tomorrow?” Jensen asked Jared apologetically.
“Tomorrow? Er…okay.”
“I’m sorry Jared. I know it’s too soon but I don’t think LA is safe for me. I want to move to other place as soon as possible.”
“I understand. Then will you come here again tomorrow?”
“No. I’m afraid Jeff suspects that I might come here to ask your help. I think it’s safer I don’t drop by here anymore. What about the mall near the hospital you work at? I bet there’s a McDonalds, right? Four o’clock, is it okay?” Jensen asked and took the half remaining bottle of water from the coffee table.
Jared had been there with Chad before. “Sure. Tomorrow at four.”
Jensen headed to door and before opening it, turned back toward Jared who was still sitting on the couch. “Thanks for everything. And for this.”
Jared saw Jensen held his cell phone. “Hey! What are you going to do with my phone? Give it back to me. You promised you wouldn’t do anything.”
“Don’t worry, Jared. I won’t do anything with your phone. I just want to make certain that you will come to meet me tomorrow. I’ll give it back to you tomorrow. I promise.” And then Jensen closed the door behind him.
Jared was sitting on the couch, just watching Jensen went out of his house with his cell phone. Jared couldn’t stop feeling like an idiot but strangely, he didn’t feel angry about Jensen at all. He was, rather, intrigued by Jensen. Jared sighed. He really needed to think out what to do tomorrow until four.
Jensen jogged to his car where he parked half a block away. Whenever he thought about Jared, he couldn’t stop smiling. Jared was hot. Really, really hot. Jensen knew Jared was staring at him while he was eating pizza. It was hard to pretend that he didn’t notice it. Jensen wanted to jump to on Jared’s lap. Jared was the most beautiful person he ever saw. Maybe it was because of his inexperience; maybe he should be ashamed to feel sexual impulsions to Jared. Jensen climbed into his car, heading towards the suburbs to find a motel. Jensen was confused by his emotions but one thing was sure. He felt something like hope for the future for the first time.
********************
Jared got off his bike when he arrived at the parking lot at the mall. He headed to McDonalds. He knew where it was because his favorite ice cream store was near of it. He checked the time. It was quarter past three. Jensen might not be here yet. As soon as he entered, he could smell greasy burgers and fries. He glanced over at the eat-in tables which were crowed by kids or families and he could spot Jensen eagerly eating his burger. Jared approached to Jensen’s table and sat across from him.
“Hey. Looks like you’re having a good time.” Jared said, smiling at Jensen.
“Hey. It’s so good. I think I should try all burgers on the menu. But they didn’t have any vinegar.” Jensen said as if it was a great disaster, pouting his lips.
Jared wrinkled his brow with disgust about eating all the burgers but his face turned to smile immediately as he saw Jensen’s pouting lips. Jensen was so cute.
“Maybe you should bring your own vinegar with you like some young Japanese. I’ve heard they always bring their own mayonnaise everywhere to put the mayonnaise on the food.” Jared said still smiling.
“Yean, that’s a good idea. You don’t want a burger?” Jensen gave Jared brilliant smile and started eat his burger again.
“No, I’m good.” Jared said leaning against the seat.
Jensen wiped his hand with napkin and dug out Jared’s cell phone from his pocket. “Oh, before I forget. Here. I swear I didn’t use it. There were some calls though.”
“I believe you, Jensen.” Jared took his phone from Jensen and checked three missed calls. One from his momma, two from Chad. He called his momma every week but he couldn’t call last week because of busy work. He made a mental note to call his momma later. Chad was probably called to talk about the new club of tonight. Since Jared couldn’t work yesterday as he was pre-occupied with deciding whether he should help Jensen, he definitely had no time for the club tonight. Jared added his mental note call to Chad, too. Jared watched Jensen finished his burger and fries happily. Jared couldn’t believe that he met Jensen just yesterday. He felt like…like he was on a date with Jensen. He wished he could spend more time with Jensen. But he would break Jensen’s heart with his decision, he sighed heavily.
Jensen drank up his shake and cleared his throat. “So…Did you make up your mind?”
Jared sat straight and looked at Jensen awkwardly. Even before Jared’s reply, the awkward silence made Jensen’s face fall. Jensen lowered his eyes to the tray full of wrapper and napkins he used. He studied the wrapper of burger as if it was the most interest thing and didn’t meet Jared’s eye. “Um…I understand.” Jensen said weakly.
“Jensen.” Jared reached over and placed his hand to Jensen’s arm.
“Jared…” Jensen lifted his head and looked Jared with painful eyes. There was a short silence and he opened his mouth to continue his words. But the words came from his mouth were not he intended to speak. “Oh my god.” Abruptly, Jensen stood up from his seat with his backpack on his shoulder and headed to the opposite direction of the exit. But he came back to their table and sank down on his seat. “Great, no back door.”
Jared couldn’t understand Jensen’s behavior. “What are you doing? Jensen.”
Jensen didn’t bother to answer, throwing off his backpack beside of him and just leaned back into the seat as if he was reconciled himself to fight.
“Jen…” Before Jared finished Jensen’s name, two guys approached their table and stood each side of Jensen. They were in casual clothes. Jensen’s right side guy was wearing navy T-shirt and jeans. And left side guy was wearing green polo shirt and khakis. Their face was expressionless and it made Jared feel a chill.
“Are you happy now, Jared? They are going to bring me back and you can go back to your nice and quiet life. Then everything will be perfect, right? Fuck you, Jared. Fuck you. How could you do this to me? You didn’t need to call Jeff to get rid of me.” Jensen glared at Jared.
Jared saw the hurt in Jensen’s eyes. Jared wished that he could remove the hurt from Jensen’s eyes. “Jensen. I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t call anyone.” Jared reached out to Jensen but Jensen knocked off his hand roughly.
“Jensen, behave.” Green polo shirt guy said quietly. And the other guy took Jensen’s backpack from the seat. “Let’s go, Jensen. Mr. Morgan is expecting you.”
Finally, Jared understood what was going on. Jared looked up the guys and said. “Wait. You can’t bring him back.” And he looked at Jensen. “Jensen. I don’t know how they find here but I didn’t call Jeff.”
“You… didn’t?” Jensen looked at Jared blankly for a moment and he started to talk to himself. Jared didn’t. Jared didn’t call Jeff. Yes, they were following Jared. And then Jensen broke into smile.
“Jensen. We don’t have time.” Green polo guy said and held Jensen’s arm to make him stand but Jensen fought against it.
“Hey, stop.” Jared started to stand up from his seat but the other guy came to behind Jared and pushed Jared’s shoulder to sit back down by force.
“Mr. Padalecki. We don’t want any trouble. We’ll bring Jensen back to his home. You’ll forget everything about this and go back your home. Are we good?” The guy behind Jared threatened and Jared felt something solid on his back.
“Don’t hurt Jared. I’ll go with you.” Jensen stopped resisting and stood up. Green polo guy pushed Jensen’s back toward door. Jared felt Jensen’s warm hand on his shoulder. “Thanks, Jared.” The warmth was gone so immediately Jared felt like it was only his imagination.
“Forget everything. We don’t know each other and we never meet.” And then the pressure on his back was gone.
Jared turned around to see them. Jensen was walking between the guys and his every step was reluctant. Jared made up his mind he wouldn’t help Jensen and he came here to say it to Jensen. He felt sorry for Jensen and found Jensen really attractive but he was too cowardly and selfish to help Jensen. He didn’t want to risk his life. But now Jensen was taken in front of him and he couldn’t let them take Jensen. He needed to do something but he didn’t know what to do. They had a gun, well probably guns. They were two and he needed to be careful Jensen didn’t get hurt. He thought frantically. When he saw a security guard through the window, the plan came up with. He wasn’t sure it would work but he needed to do something. Jared took out his ID from his wallet and waited until the guys and Jensen were out of store. When they couldn’t see him, he ran to the security guard.
“Please. I need your help.” Jared showed his ID to the security guard and checked his name tag. “Mr. Cooper. I’m Jared Padalecki and working in social home center for street kids. We, one of the kids and I came here to buy his clothes. This kid had been working on the street recently. We accidentally met his pimps here and they took him by force. They had a gun. There. You can see them?” Jared pointed Jensen and the guys. They were walking to the opposite direction of Jared, probably heading to the elevator hall to go to the parking lot.
“Mr. Padalecki. I think we should call the police.”
“Please, don’t call the police. This kid’s afraid of cops. One of his customers was a cop who had been accepting bribes and he was almost killed by him for testifying at the court.”
“But if these guys resist and use their gun, it will make all the customers in danger.”
“Exactly, Mr. Cooper. I don’t want you stop them. I want you to take the kid to safe place. I think these guys don’t want to make a trouble. I’m sure if you insist that you need to speak to him because of suspicion for shop lifting, they will just let him go. Please, we don’t have time. If you bend the rules a little, it’ll save the boy’s life.” Jared pleaded.
Mr. Cooper looked like considering options. “Okay. Let’s try our luck. If things go well like you said then it would be good for both of us.”
Jared and Mr. Cooper rushed to Jensen and the guys who were waiting elevator now.
“Excuse me, sir.” Mr. Cooper talked to them.
They turned around to the voice. “Can I help you?” Green polo guy answered.
“My name is Jack Cooper and I’m working as a security guard in this mall. This gentleman,” Mr. Cooper gestured to Jared. “Said he saw this boy shop lifting. I need to bring him to the office and check his duds, sir.”
“Yes, it was him.” Jared said, nodding his head with agreement.
Jensen’s eyes widened as he recognized Jared.
“I can guarantee this gentleman took this boy for another boy.” Green polo guy said to Mr. Cooper politely, glaring at Jared.
“No, no, no. I’m absolutely sure. One hundred percent positive.” Jared stepped forward and pointed Jensen exaggeratedly.
Jensen gave Jared a confused look but didn’t say anything. He looked like he was trying to understand the circumstance.
“I can guarantee he’s not. Can you tell us what he shop lifted?” Navy T-shirt guy asked through gritted teeth.
“Um…” Jared was at a loss for an answer. He didn’t know what were in Jensen’s backpack. A cell phone? But everybody had one. They would insist that cell phone was Jensen’s. Jared could see smug smile on the navy shirt guy’s face and then he noticed Jensen silently mouthed something. It was subtle but definitely Jensen wanted to tell something to Jared. Jared tried to read Jensen’s lips, being careful not to be noticed by the guys.
“A laptop!” Jared shouted triumphantly.
“I’m afraid we need to check the backpack, sir.” Mr. Copper requested to the navy shirt guy who was holding Jensen’s backpack.
The smug smile was gone from the guy’s face. He flared his nostrils with anger now. “Here, sir.” He handed a backpack to Mr. Copper.
Mr. Cooper took it and opened to check. As soon as he opened it, all of them could see a white laptop. “I’m afraid this gentleman was right, sir. I need to take him to the security office and call the police. Would you let me take him? Or do you want to come along to the office too, sir?” Mr. Copper asked with an authority figure.
The guys looked angry but said politely. “Sure, you can take him. Anyway I’m sure we can meet him again-” Green polo guy said through gritted teeth. He stopped his words briefly and finished as patting Jensen’s shoulder. “Soon.” And they headed to the elevator.
Jared watched they took the elevator to be sure. They glared at Jared before the door was closed. Jared didn’t notice he was holding his breath until the door was closed. He sighed with a relief and turned to Jensen and Mr. Copper. Jensen looked confused but he smiled at Jared. Jared rushed to Jensen.
“God, Jensen. I was so worried about you. I was sure they’ll make you work on the street again and you can never come back social center again. I’m so glad Mr. Cooper helped me to save you from pimps.” Jared hugged Jensen tightly and tried to give Jensen information by his rambling.
Jensen was taken aback momentarily but hugged back soon. “Thanks, Jared. Thanks.”
Jared noticed Jensen was trembling. He wanted to keep hugging Jensen until Jensen felt safe but he knew he couldn’t. Mr. Cooper was waiting beside them. He released his hold and stood beside Jensen. He had his hand on Jensen’s back.
“Mr. Padalecki. I think we’d better move some other place. And I think it is possible they’re waiting in the parking lot. Why don’t you come to the office for a while?” Mr. Cooper suggested Jared as he handed to Jensen his backpack. Jared didn’t notice some people gathered around them to see what was happening until Mr. Cooper’s words. Mr. Cooper gestured for them to follow.
Mr. Copper led them to the door ‘staff only’ sign on it. Jared and Jensen entered and they found it was back corridor for staff. They followed Mr. Cooper to the office which was at the end of the corridor. It was small room with two desks and several chairs that could be folding when you didn’t use.
“Please, make yourself comfortable.”
Jared and Jensen sat on the chair. And Jensen talked to Mr. Copper. “Thank you, sir. You saved my life. I really appreciate it. I wouldn’t survive if I work on the street again.”
Mr. Copper could see Jensen was close to tears. He smiled at Jensen. “I’m glad I could help you.”
Jensen asked weakly. “Will you call the police? I really don’t like police. I just want to go home with Mr. Padalecki. Please..?”
Mr. Cooper gave Jared a knowing look before he answered Jensen. “Don’t worry. I promised Mr. Padalecki I wouldn’t call the police. I just want you to spend some time here to make sure they are gone.” He could see Jensen visibly relaxed with his answer.
“Thank you, sir.” Jensen smiled and continued. “Do you think how long we need to be here? I really want to go home.”
“I’ll ask the other security staffs to check the parking lot to make sure and then you can go. Sounds good?” Mr. Cooper took the transceiver from its leather case attached on his belt and started to talk through it.
As listening Mr. Copper talked to the other staff, Jared placed his hand on Jensen’s arm and squeezed lightly and said quietly. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
Jensen was still trembling a little but he was calm now. “Thank you. Jared.”
Mr. Cooper cleared his throat. “They said they can’t see anyone who matches their description. I think it will be okay. Let’s go.”
Mr. Cooper even escorted them to Jensen’s car. He shook Jared’s hand and patted Jensen’s shoulder. “Please, take care of him. Mr. Padalecki. Everyone has a right to be happy. And you boy, be careful.” And he went to back to mall.
Jared and Jensen got into the car, Jensen started the car before he decided where to go. He drove to suburb because he wanted to go as far as from the mall. “Wow, Mr. Copper was really good person. But seriously, you’re social worker and I had been working on the street? And they are my pimps? You’re incredible, Jared.”
Jared laughed. “Thanks for your compliment. My momma always said I’m very imaginative.”
“I agree.” Jensen smiled and continued cautiously. “You know, I didn’t expect you to help me… well, after our last conversation.”
“Yeah, I understand. I didn’t want to say no to you but I… I didn’t have enough courage to say yes either. But I couldn’t just sit and see that they took you by force.” Jared didn’t think it would be enough for an answer but Jensen didn’t ask any farther. Actually, Jared didn’t know why he decided to rescue Jensen after he refused to help.
When they stopped waiting for the signal to change to green, Jensen looked at Jared. “I’m glad you changed your mind and helped me. Thanks.” He reached over Jared’s hand and squeezed lightly with warm smile.
“You’re welcome.” Jared returned the smile. Jensen’s smile made Jared feel warm inside. He was surprised when he realized how happy he could be with Jensen’s smile. As he was bewildered by his overwhelming emotion of affection, he was startled by his ringtone. He checked caller ID but it was number he didn’t know.
“Hello. This is Padalecki.”
“Well, Mr. Padalecki. I must say I’m very disappointed you.”
“Who’s this? I’m afraid I don’t know you.” Jared didn’t recognize the voice so he answered cautiously.
“I’m sure you know me, Mr. Padalecki. I was supposed to be with Jensen, if there wasn’t your interference.” The voice was trembling with anger.
“Mr. Morgan…?” Jared didn’t know what to say. He noticed Jensen stiffened by hearing the name.
“I’m very upset at your stupid behavior towards my staff. But I’m a very generous man and I’ll give you chance to make up you for your mistake. Bring Jensen to my place, then I’ll forget what you did and I even let you go back to your life, well…safely.” Jeff was quite confident that Jared would follow his demand.
“Mr. Morgan. Let me make this clear. I won’t follow your instruction. I’ll do what I think it is right, not what I’m told. I don’t think we need to talk anymore.” Jared didn’t know what gave him courage but he answered in firm voice.
“Maybe you are not aware of who I am. I can do anything what I want. If you don’t change your mind, I guarantee you will regret it.” Jeff threatened again.
“I’m fully aware that I’m doing the right thing and I won’t change my decision. Good bye, Mr. Morgan.” Jared ended the call, fuming about Jeff’s rudeness and absurd demand.
“What did he say? Jared?” Jensen’s voice was full with anxiety and dread.
“He said if I didn’t bring you back to him, I would regret.” Jared was still fuming.
“Jared, you don’t know Jeff. He’s a very obstinate man and very powerful with his money. I’m afraid what he would do to you.” Jensen said in a trembling voice.
“Jensen, I know he could do anything with his money. But I made a choice because I thought taking you back to him was wrong, because I wanted you to spend your life with your baby freely, because I wanted you to be happy, and I won’t change it. Okay?”
Jensen was driving in silence for a while and finally answered. “Okay, Jared.”
“Good. If you don’t have any specific place on your mind, can I choose where to go? I want to see the ocean. It’s been awhile since last time I went.” Jared wanted to lighten Jensen’s mood. Maybe Jared should worry about what Jeff might do, but strangely Jared didn’t worry about what Jeff might do. Actually he felt good that he could give a flat refusal to Jeff’s demand.
“Sure. I’ve never seen the ocean. Well, real ocean. Is it really beautiful like in the pictures?” Jensen looked embarrassed at his question.
“Of course Jensen. It’s so beautiful it can’t be described in words. You have to see and feel it yourself.” Jared smiled as he remembered the first time he saw the sea when he was child. He was sure Jensen would love the ocean.
“Wow, I’d love to see and feel it.” Jensen chuckled and touched the display on the screen of the navigation system several times to set the direction to the ocean.
