Day One of Week Three

Jan 23, 2007 16:51

Wow, I can't believe I'm already in week three. That means I officially head to my clinical site in TWO weeks!!! OMG! Today was good, had my first test in theory and I got an A. Yay me:D I missed three questions, one of which I don't even remember covering so I just guessed, and two of which I felt like slapping myself in the face for missing once we went over the right answers. Oh well. We did A LOT of going over assessments today. We also delved into making care plans. I don't know if I am going to enjoy writing care plans or not. Right now it seems a bit confusing because I'm just guessing when I write timelines and goals for the patients. I don't really know what a realistic goal is for a lot of these problems and that makes me nervous since in two weeks I have to start writing them for real. Man, I hope we have more guidance in clinicals than it appears we will have, but I doubt it. We have to write a care plan for tomorrow. I hope it was just a care plan for one diagnosis because if I write a care plan for EVERY diagnosis my patient has I will be up all night, plus I'm not entirely sure I'm doing it right so I just did a care plan for one diagnosis. Hopefully that's all she wanted and she doesn't rip my head of in class tomorrow.
Today we also got into learning some of the fun stuff, or at least what I consider fun, which is learning about breathing sounds and cardiac sounds. That's the kind of stuff I'm interested in...which makes me think I shoulda been a doctor but let's not even go down that path:P I need to brush up on my cardiac anatomy, which is ok cuz I love that kind of stuff. Maybe I'll do that over the weekend, cuz it's not like I already have enough to do:P
I also went and practiced my NG tube placements and feedings on the dummy again because practice, practice practice. I practiced once and did it right, except I had some trouble priming the line because there was water left in it from the last person that practiced. But all in all I thought I did ok, but then I saw other people practicing two, three times doing it over and over again even though they did it right the first time. So sigh, I guess that means I should keep doing it, you never know when you will forget a step.
We also had our first quiz in Pharmacology and I got another A, woo hoo:P It's definately reassuring and a good start to be getting A's on my tests but I've always been a good test taker and that's not really what matters in this type of environment. I still need to see how I do out in the real world. So tomorrow it's back to clinical practice and learning more new tasks to practice in the lab. Hopefully I sleep better tonight because once again I didn't sleep last night. I've come to realize that I've apparently been a lousy sleeper for several years now but it didn't matter because if I didn't sleep very well throughout the night I could just keep sleeping in until I got my needed sleep, but alas, that is not the case anymore. I NEED to find a way to get a good night's sleep on a regular basis or I'm going to crack! Well, I have to go back to school and get my second Hep B vaccine now, wah, all I want to do is nap and I still have about 40 pages to read before I go to bed. Sigh:(
