I'm fairly sure most of you have already made it known that you are participating, but I wanted to drop a line to let you know to please inform us if you are entering a piece for the yaoi/shounen-ai side or the het side of the challenge. We need to know so that (a)when it's time for us to start the voting and judging process we know which judge to ( Read more... )

In fact, I'd suggest doing it ASAP. I will be closing the category by Wednesday at the latest.

And may I reiterate, no OCs with series characters. I don't want to read some fangirl's wishful thinking.

Uhm... if I could just say something?

Because I am an obsessive Lj addict, I heard about this challenge almost as soon as it opened. What attracted me was that it was for Shounen ai and Yaoi.

When someone requested het be included I sort of arched a brow. This was doubled when you were nice enough to change the challenge to cater to them.

I feel that if that person wanted it so badly, and felt that there would be enough of a following, they should have instead requested permission to mirror your challenge and then formed a comm/site/challenge of their own.

It's not that I am entirely against het, it's more like I am against catering to people. Eh.. that came out wrong. I'm bad with words, for a writer.

Still, you were nice enough to include a person as a judge without knowing if they would hold to your same standards.

I feel that this is your challenge, for your enjoyment, and that as such you should do as you please.

Sadly, they caught me in one of my rare "nice" moments. I'm feeling better now though.

Sweet and I are discussing her setting up a separate challenge for gen/het and have the two be affliates.

I might be generalizing a bit when I say this, but I'm going to say it anyway: it seems to me that the gen/het community seems to want to whine about an "overpopulation" of yaoi in the YGO fandom, but they don't want to have do anything (like try to write good fanfiction or host their own contest) about it. They just want to whinge about it.

However, it did give me an excuse to add Rule #12... in which I got to be a bitch.

I really need to work on this "nice" streak. It bites me in the ass every time it shows up.

As someone who writes mainly gen, I'd like to point out that I've never whined about the massive amounts of yaoi. If something bothers me, I just leave it to the people who like it. And I've got nothing against yaoi, truth be told I like it a lot, but I do think that gen/het is underappreciated. I liked having that genre opened up because this contest looks like a lot of fun, and it would be a good chance to mingle het and yaoi.

I do read gen/het, but not for YGO. I've had too many bad experiences in the genre since I moved to this fandom. It's nice to hear there is a nice author out there for it... because all I've been getting is the whinging.

I wanted the main point of this challenge to be the improving of fanfiction in the YGO fandom, not turn into a wank war. If it gets to that point, I'm closing it.

*grins* That's too bad...there really are some good gen fics out there. I haven't read anything new in a couple of years, so I had no idea that the other gen authors were getting so whiny.

*nods* I understand. There were actually two contests a few years ago that became really wanky...but they were fun, that aside. I just wish these things could happen without the needless drama.

It's like a two year (and two fandom) step backward in time for me: it's like going back to the X/1999 fandom all over again. I seem to have a talent for finding the wangst and drama.

Yeah I know what you mean...I haven't done much beyond drabbles in more than a year, maybe two. I think if life hadn't eaten my creativity I probably would have gone into a new fandom, but those I've looked into just haven't held my attention long enough. It's the enormous fandom that attracts the wangst ;)

Aww. I come at all the worst times, when discussions are already over and done with. 0h well.

Like you, I also see the whining in the Ygo fandom. I liked the idea for your challenge alot not only because it was Yaoi, but because it aims for quality. Something alot seem to have given up on, both on the Yaoi and Het sides of things.

I am glad to hear that you guys are working out the possible separate challenge, it sounds awesome.

Hopefully, it'll be all smooth sailing from here on out.
