Sports Day turned out to be really fun. We arrived in school at 10am to see the whole place abuzz - stalls had been erected all over the campus, barbecue grills were set up under the shade of the huge trees in the field, and there was even a small spinning ride sort of thing in the middle of the playground. In addition to my epic read, I am also working my way through the Pirates of the Caribbean movies that are being screened on TV and tonight is the last instalment. The Bun is having a busy time in school this term. He's got a theatre trip this Wednesday, he's learning how to play football (I think in preparation for sports day in June), he's going to start his first after-school activity club (called playground games) this Thursday, and together with his classmates, he's rehearsing for the Lower School ( Read more... )

Yesterday The Bun's school celebrated World Book Day. I'd never heard of such a day before but after googling it seems to be fairly common in UK schools. That post-holiday mountain of laundry took FIVE loads in the washer to conquer. Yes, five. Okay, so I also washed Bao's coat which still smelled a bit like puke but she's so small it's not like the coat was that big either right? It's Christmas Eve today, and I think the next couple of days will just be filled with plenty of eating. Tonight J and I made mussels in a white wine sauce for dinner. 1.4kg worth of mussels, shared between The Bun (who loves shellfish), J and me.
