meet max

The Bun recently borrowed a book from the library called Dogs Don't Brush Their Teeth! and he loves it so much that we have to read it quite a few times a day. It features Photoshopped pictures of dogs doing human things like playing tennis, reading the papers with a cup of coffee, pushing a pram with puppies in it, etc and the images tickle the funny bone in just the right way, whether you're three or thirty.

Anyway, The Bun's favourite picture in the book shows a pair of dogs shaking paws in the street and introducing themselves to each other. One of them has a speech bubble above his head that says, 'Hi, I'm Max!' and for some reason The Bun falls apart giggling every time he sees it.

So tonight at my parents' place he immediately transformed into Max and gave Tobey a good run for his money, recreating that picture from the book. After a while I had to stop him from grabbing Tobey's paws and shaking them too vigorously; thank goodness Tobey is really very tame (or maybe just very resigned) and will put up with all sorts of antics from The Bun.

Meet Max, who likes to lie under chairs and watch the world go by.

Max and Tobey have a good scratch.

Dogs don't shake hands, but they do exchange slobbery kisses.
I think this Max thing will probably go on for a while, judging from how beloved that book is right now. Other animals that often make an appearance at home include a cheetah (poor Tobey is often drafted into playing the antelope), a crab with pinchy pincers, and a big black spider (my favourite, since it just lies around on the bed or floor and requires me to say 'oh! big spider!').

kid reads, threenager bun, tobey
