I've decided I'd better number my posts giving my thoughts on Supernatural as I view season one on DVDs. This is my third--one and two are my previous entries--and it covers disc three in the set. Included are episodes titled Home, Asylum, Scarecrow and Faith. My thoughts are under the cut.
Some general thoughts first. Where are Sam and Dean getting the money to pay for all the traveling they do? You can certainly tell the show is filmed in Vancouver because so many of the episodes are filmed either in rain or with wet streets. Does the electronic gadget Dean uses that has an antenna and blinking lights have a name?
HOME - I cringed watching the plumber sticking his hand into the garbage disposal because I just knew what was going to happen. I loved the actress who played the psychic, one of the best guest stars so far. The crew is coming up with great fire special effects. This was a pretty scary episode, but also quite poignant.
ASYLUM - I loved this episode and feel it's the scariest one so far. Any story involving the way mental hospitals functioned in the 1700s, 1800s and early 1900s is scary to me. And the sets were spectacular...VERY creepy. Great camera work, too. I'd think Jared and Jensen would have nightmares after filming episodes like this, but I guess it's much different for them on set than it is for the viewer.
SCARECROW - Certainly had the scariest scarecrow I've ever seen. I knew there was something a bit "off" about the blond who was headed to California with Sam. Very sad when Sam and Dean split and went their separate ways. It's just not the same when they're not together. And no way were those apple trees in that orchard. Apple trees don't grow in clumps; these looked more like bushes. I guess they couldn't find a real apple orchard in which to film. I'm being picky, I know.
FAITH - OK, this is one of the episodes so many of you have said you loved. I can see why. It was a terrific episode. I nearly jumped out of my chair when the dog in the truck barked at the cop walking past. It was touching how worried Sam was about Dean. You also got the feeling at the end--at least I did--that the girl with the brain tumor (Lyla?) would find her miracle the real way.
I'm half way through season one now and loving every minute of it. It's hard to believe that this show has been airing for 10 years and I'm only now discovering it. I'm going to try to watch the rest before Monday because I have family coming to visit next week.
