Anyone Remember This Song?

I can't get this song out of my head after rediscovering it recently.

This is a video of when The Proclaimers first came to the US (1989) and were on David Letterman's show. The song was #1 for a while in the US and for several months in the UK. They sit down with Letterman to talk after they sing and I'm enthralled by their marvelous Scottish ( Read more... )

I wish Letterman (who I enjoy, I confess) were being replaced by John Oliver. He's actually being replaced by Stephen Colbert, who I find incredibly irritating, though he's playing a character on "The Colbert Report," so maybe he'll be better as himself. (I hate his pistachio commercials, too, though.)

Oh! You're right. I thought John Oliver was replacing Letterman. Too bad he isn't.

I watch Letterman if he has a guest I really want to see, but I find it very annoying the way he constantly interrupts his guests and gets information wrong so much of the time. He seems to think he's far more entertaining himself than his guests are. But I know there are people who like him, otherwise he wouldn't have lasted so long on the show.

I'm not getting audio for the song for some reason, but I remember it from the movie "Benny and Joon". It's so bouncy and earnest and hard to forget!

Oh, so sorry you can't get the audio. That happens to me, too, sometimes at YouTube, but refreshing the page usually solves the problem. I don't think I've ever seen "Benny and June." Who's in it?

It's an unusual, heartwarming love story between two very unusual individuals, played by Johnny Depp and Mary Stuart Masterson. I think it came out 20-25 years ago.

I just watched the trailer for the move and boy! does Johnny Depp ever look young. LOL I also found a clip from the film that has the soundtrack with 500 Miles.

I remember this song! I didn't know who was singing it though so it was nice to see them in person :)

I remember the song and The Proclaimers, but I'd forgotten they were identical twins...or maybe I never knew that in the first place. They look much the same today except they're both a bit heavier.

I like that song.
So, David Letterman is “always putting down or making fun of his guests”.
Many interviewers do that and I have noticed it particularly with British interviewers. Last week I stumbled upon this clip of an author who effectively put down his interviewer. It’s great. LINK

Well, first of all, David Letterman acts stupid and dumb. He's never familiar with the movie/book/whatever his guest is there to promote. He gets names wrong. He acts like he doesn't understand what his guest is talking about and makes fun of them. I find him just plain rude to his guests. NONE of the other people hosting late night talk shows in the US act like that. The video I posted is a perfect example. The names of the men are Charlie and Chris and Letterman introduced them as Charlie and Craig. When they talked about where they're from in Scotland, Letterman acted like they were from a silly place and therefore, they must be silly, too.

Thanks for the link. That man was marvelous. I wish he'd be on Letterman's show. I'm sure he could shut down Letterman or at least make him feel as uncomfortable as Letterman makes his guests feel.
