Well, d'oh! I posted this five hours ago, but had it set on "private." I wondered where my readers had disappeared to.
We have a
loveseat in our kitchen and that is where I sit to read for a couple of hours every morning. This morning all five cats joined me. There were three on one side of me, one on the other side and one in my lap. My cats are all big, not fat, just big. The smallest weighs 17 pounds. My solid
black cat, Eric, looks like a 3/4 grown panther and weighs 23 pounds. He stands nearly two feet tall. And wouldn't you know, he's the one who chose to sit in my lap this morning. Balancing a book and a cup of coffee is a challenge under these circumstances, but I would never give up the wonderful warm, fuzzy feeling of contentment I get when surrounded by my furry friends.
As was forecast, the temperature today shot up to an amazing 42F (5.5 C) but is supposed to drop tonight to -10 or -12 (-24) -- an astounding temperature spread for a 24-hour period. More snow is coming, too. It wasn't warm enough long enough to melt the solid ice on our road and driveway. I used
crampon-like things on my shoes to walk down the driveway to the mailbox. I'm trying to remember why we chose to retire here instead of the warm, sunny South or West.
