I really believe that Ms. Meyer didn't write any fight scenes because she doesn't know HOW to write them. Not a single description of actual fighting in all of the books... Very telling.

Anyway, that's the part that really struck me as Ms. Meyer going "Well, I'm x number of pages in... Maybe I should think of something to do? What's that word again? Oh yeah, p-lots." (Except that she'd mispronounce it.)
The Volturi went to Forks, sure that they'd have to kill a baby that somebody had turned into a vampire. From earlier, with the Alaskan clan, they mentioned how bad that vampire baby was, and they went expecting a war.

...And yet, they brought along their wives, whom, I'd like to point out, are pretty much just "vampire arm candy". They hadn't been out of the batcave Volturi HQ for ages, but for some reason, they're brought to Forks to fight a vampire baby? Makes perfect sense!

Instead of coming to the conclusion that he would end up dead, he could have come to the conclusion that he wouldn't be able to make them a part of his ( ... )

I have to agree with this. Every time action would start up she chickens out and has Bella either black out (first and third book)or it just doesn't happen at all (every other one). They're not really that hard.

Sorry to disagree with you, but I can totally see why Aro would be too scared to fight the Cullens and Co. ALL the Volturi's powers are mental, and can be blocked by Bella's telepathic shield. The Volturi on the other hand would be left helpless against the Cullens and Co.'s powers.

The first arguement I'm going to make is that not all of the powers are mental. Felix and Santiago's abilities are completely based around their physical strength and skills and Bella's powers would have no effect on them. There are also seventeen unknown members that nobody knows the powers off ( ... )

Well, Jane and Alec's powers would've been incredibly useful in a fight. According to the Guide (which Das Mervin reads aloud on her Youtube channel), Alec is Aro's deadliest weapon. With those two, the Volturi probably would've won easily. Renata's ability, while not useful if people are moving around, can effectively hide someone, and it's stated that she's Aro's personal bodyguard. And while I agree that they can still put a fight physically, they still have to worry about the Cullens' allies powers. Benjamin could take out a chunk of them all on his own with his power to control earth and fire.

Taking out the deadliest weapon doesn't guarantee ones victory. And technically the characters in question aren't taken out of action, they simply can't use their powers. There is a difference too between winning easily and winning without doing anything. If it weren't for Bella's powers their win would have been the second, not the first because of how certain powers works.

On top of this Aro already knew about Bella's ability and how it could block mental abilities from being used. He's been alive for some time, so he would have been able to figure out that his deadliest weapons would have been no use, which means he felt they had a chance against Bella and the others despite not having his trump keys in play.

And yet Meyer herself said, "...Aro foresees a more evenly matched fight than he had expected, the loss of too many of his key players..." and pretty much claims that he didn't think of losing his key players before they arrived. Nobody's that stupid and if they were they would not be able to come to the conclusion that ( ... )
