Last Saturday, we went to a friend of Ian's (
uvjunkie), Wesley's, birthday bash at Marlow's Cellar Bar in the Thistle Hotel. It was a really good night, and completely different to anything I've been to before. When we arrived, there was ceilidh dancing going on (sort of like barn/line dancing), which sounds strange but was really good fun. They had some other music playing after (which they said was a DJ, though not what I would call a DJ), whilst people sat, chatted drank and ate pies. Wes got me up to have a dance with him, and as he took me over to the dancefloor, I had expected loads of others dancing, to find it was just him and me! But boy, can he dance. He knows just how to move, he was brilliant to dance with. Ian and I danced together for a while after, which was brilliant, as Ian doesn't dance often, so I always enjoy the moments when he dances with me.
After the 'DJ' finished, Wes and a lot of his friends got out their instruments (banjos, violins, guitars, spoons, drums etc) for a jamming session. Its something they do fairly often at various pubs around the area, anyone is welcome to come with their instrument and join in the sessions. Its generally folk music, which I find beautiful to listen to. This was the first time I'd been there listening to the jamming session - Ian has been many times, he used to go most Monday's when I was already busy, so was unable to go along. It was really good. I borrowed some spoons for a while to join in; but I don't think I did very well ;)
It was a fantastic evening, different to anything we usually do, but we both had a brilliant night, and only left when we were all kicked out the venue at a little before 3am.
