Glade Festival - Days 1 & 2

Aug 11, 2006 23:48

I had been looking forward to Glade festival for months as us Sirenz had been booked to dance for the festival this year. I was extremely excited, as we had missed out on dancing last year as they had already filled their performer slots by the time we approached them. I was also gutted that we couldn’t afford to go along last year either because we had spent all our money on buying a house!

We had aimed to get our second set of costumes made in time for Glade, so we have spent the last few months designing and making our costumes. With the last set of costumes, we had Emma (psilobabe), Heather and Cat (sepheri) who made the costumes, with myself and Michelle (cyberspikes) helping out with as much of the hand sewing of the piping as we could.

This set of costumes, Michelle (cyberspikes) and I wanted to have a go at making our costumes ourselves, so I have made my costume, Michelle (cyberspikes) has made her costume, Emma (psilobabe) made her costume and one extra costume and Heather made one costume (and is currently working on her own).

After spending my first 3 days holiday from work solidly sewing (along with every waking hour in the last few months!!), Ian (uvjunkie) & I got up early on Thursday morning in order to head to Glade festival in the morning. It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful day. We dropped in on Michelle (cyberspikes) and picked up some more of the Sirenz stuff from her before heading off. We arrived at Glade at around 10.30am, and eventually made it into the crew area, where we parked up. We wandered down to the production area where we met Merlin who had booked us. She was really lovely and very friendly, as I had expected. We then had the brilliant job of carrying all of our stuff from the crew area to the main site, a good 25 minutes walk away. We wanted to camp on the main site with loads of friends, so we headed up to camp behind the ID Spiral.

We spent the afternoon setting up the tent and getting all our stuff to the campsite. Once we had finished we went for a wander around the site to see what was around.

There turned out to be a fair few friends at who had made it to Glade this year, which was lovely!

During the evening we wandered around site a few times, before heading to bed at a relatively respectable hour because I wanted to be feeling good for my first day dancing.

We decided to wear our fire costumes on our first day and to wear our new Sirenz costumes on the second day we were booked to dance. Dancers booked to dance for Glade festival were myself, Michelle (cyberspikes), Emma (psilobabe), Beccy and Alice. We had been asked by Glade for 5 dancers, however, Jodie who was coming to Glade wanted to dance for the first day with us. Merlin was very happy for her to come backstage with us to get ready so there were actually 6 of us dancing on the first day.

We got ready and headed out to the festival site. It was another beautifully warm day, we were all very warm in our costumes! We spent our time mainly at the Origin, Liquid and Breaksday stages. We danced on stage on the Origin stage several times which had to be my favourite part of our performance.

I think it was around 3am before I headed off to get out of costume on the Friday night and head to bed for a few hours sleep before the usual 8am wake up call by the heat in the tent!
