Whose brilliant idea was it to drink coffee at 9 pm? Oh wait, that's right, it was MINE. Wile E. Coyote, suuuper genius.
At the time, it made a little bit of sense because I needed to take more ibuprofen and caffeine enhances ibuprofen's effectiveness. But I should probably have foreseen this whole awake-at-2-am thing from miles off.
It's been quite a weekend. I am so very glad to be done with Thanksgiving, and so very glad we could spend it with my grandfather even if he was kind of being himself at people (especially my poor brother). He may be an annoying horribly blinkered and prejudiced old man but he needs company so badly. I can't even imagine what it must be like for him walking around the now-empty house that he shared with his wife for more than 60 years. I mean, holy shit.
He's handling her loss... oddly, but probably not unhealthily. He keeps trying to give us her stuff. I am now the proud owner of the KitchenAid mixer I'd been in love with for decades; he asked me like 5 times over the course of Thanksgiving to please please take it home with me. I will use it and be proud and happy to do so but right now I can't look at it without getting sniffly. Then he tried to give me some of her clothes but that is where I draw the line. I realize that as an avid thrift shopper I probably wear dead-people clothes a fair bit, but it's different when it's dead-relative clothes and I KNOW it. Besides, I was like a foot taller than her so I can't see those clothes fitting me.
We took both kids to see the new Muppets movie yesterday and there is nothing not awesome about that movie. I was just transported with joy. The Sprout handled her very first in-the-theater viewing experience quite well, although she did have to sit on my lap the whole time because she wasn't heavy enough to keep the seat from flipping back up, and she did get a little fidgety towards the end and a little distressed about the "bad guy". Still, not bad at all.
Ugh, I feel like jittery death but I need to lie down so I can get up and get the Bean on the school bus tomorrow morning. Stupid long weekends and their wonkifying of my sleep schedule.
