Do you know much about Healthy New York? I got insurance through them based on being a sole proprietor which I think you are, right? Some financial adviser who gets paid by them (I assume, because I did not pay him and he did a lot of back and forth emails and calls with me while I decided if it was my best option, because Reuben's company wouldn't cover homebirth.) I can give you his name/number/email off public forums unless you already know all about health NY.

Can you save yourself some money and get Nechama on Child Health Plus where you pay full premium? I assume you make more than the max for a family of three, but maybe if you are out of work it would be an option. They only go by current pay stubs or proof of job lose (temporary or otherwise). When Reuben works overtime our premiums go up for the kids and then if I want to drag my butt down there when he is working regular hours again I can get them lowered. Just now he was working over time only to offset time off when Nurit came, but because I wanted her to make the July deadline our premium got upped again. If he didn't use paid time off to make up for the time he took off we could have lowered our premiums by two levels. It is such a flawed system but aside from dental I'm so happy with the coverage I can't complain. It kicks the employer's policy's butt.

Would you mind emailing me the advisor's information? I think I can backdoor into Healthy NY if I only show one side's paperwork. Ie on my number's I'd qualify but not under Mike's. I was actually going to call specific numbers related to healthy NY. Ie the agency that does my daughter's SEIT also is affiliated with Healthy NY.

I am technically a sole proprietor through one of my positions. It's annoying basically both I'm an independent contractor, but one is W-2 the other is 1099. The 1099 definitely falls under sole proprietor.

I could put Nechama under Child Health Plus but I'm still trying to get everybody coverage. Because my husband is an idiot.

So almost 10 years ago we cleaned out my grandfather's house in the middle of winter/snow storm, it was closing the next morning, Mike helped us do the schlepping and he was sick wiht a bad post semester cold. He turns to me last week and says 'you know i've been sick since we cleaned out your grandfahter's house' I'm like WHAT!!! you would think in all this time you'd mention that. Anyhow so he says he should see a doctor that deals with the upper respitory system. I told him you have 5 weeks to get into a doctor while we still ahve coverage. Than I said I don't know what we're going to do as of Augst. He responds with 'I don't need healht insurance'

I feel like I'm just going to go bang my head against a wall.

I just quickly did the screening for Child Health Plus basically using just Mike's income we can get her Child Health Plus providing we don't have other insurance with a $30 monthly premium wiht a maximum premium of $90 but if we both have income, we make to much to qualify.

How disgusting is it, that Mike and I kill ourselves to work and my paycheck is wiped out by the time we pay health insurance and preschool tuition(just under $500) and I wonder why I can't dig out my credit card debt. I hope you realize I'm not making a dig that I work outside the house and you don't, I'm SOO not saying it. I just wonder why I kill myself.

The insurance my daughter's teacher was telling me about is actually under Healthy NY, now the sick thing is, as a 3 person household on Mike's income we make to much money. IF I lied and said I was pregnant we'd qualify by like $500. How disgusting is this system? And then I wonder why so many frum people are cheating the system, ugh!

I sent it. You don't have to only be a sole propriety. You just have to be one who doesn't not earn more than X through that one sole proprietor job. I just am not sure how they can help Mike, but I don't understand the plan at all and the guy is either nuts or gets paid to get people on the plans so let him do his job. My price point was like 318 for just me no drugs (drugs was closer to 400) 1200 deductible which co-pays ($20 any doctor, $5 for labs) didn't count towards and I think for a husband wife it would have been high 700s.

Reuben claims to have just suddenly become sick after a mystical incident.Apparently he was never ill until magical whatever happened and now he is a migraine, ear fungus, post nasal dripper.

I read an article recently about how screwy it was just tax wise to be the lesser wage earner in a marriage. Like if you weren't legally married or could file separately you'd get to take home so much more. Its better I think to run a losing business just to offset the higher earner's tax bracket.

I think it sucks that someone can go to law school and/or have your schooling and certifications and can't get employer health care. Talk about broken promises when it comes to higher education affording health care instead of poverty and reproductive abilities. And all this health care reform is just rewarding insurance companies who are a significant part of the unaffordable insurance problem if you ask me. Even our health plus thing is crazy because I pay them more with the subsidized plan than I would have to pay to put them on Reuben's work's plan, but I am willing to pay that both for the freedom so Reuben won't ever be scared to work somewhere else where we might have to wait 3 months or whatever for insurance and because when I have to fight Health Plus for something I am not literally fighting with a co-worker of reuben's because their plan is self funded.

There is an issue with Child Health Plus where the child has to be uninsured for a certain amount of time I think which of course is no good. There must be some way to fix it, but I am not sure what it is. My SIL wants her kids on Health Plus and off of Reuben's company's plan, but she can't risk them being uninsured. However there must be an exception if you can prove that she lost her insurance. They have places that can advise you, you just have to call around and I think you can tell your story without identifying yourself so you can apply using the necessary information. If you earn too much to pay the 30 (90 means you pay 90 for 3 chidren or 11) or earn to much to pay the 90 per child you can still pay the full premium - they just don't list how much that is so you don't know yet if it is more or less than your other options.

Frum people are cheating the system in my opinion, because they incorrectly think cheating a goy doesn't matter. Its a little too much emphasis on being the "chosen people". Russians do it too, because it was the way the world worked back in Russia.

I think you need a doctor's note to say you are pregnant though. I did.

Thank you for the information. I emailed earlier in the day and he asked that I call him on Monday, which is fine, I at least feel like I'm being proactive. you know?

I think they get paid to get people on the plan. I know a few years ago my sil/bil could have paid someone like maybe $1k to get them healthy ny and they didn't do it, where as I'm like HELL YES. If I can get insurance cheap I don't care if I have to 'pay' in you know?

I think men just like to complain and have to find the most assinine of symptoms.

I know one of the teacher's at Nechama's school was 'advising' me mind you she's younger than me, around the election that I should 'divorce' Mike so I can get tons of benefits. ugh it's so messed up.

I can't fathom Mike went to law school. I have a bachelors and a dual Master's in general and special education as well as the state certifications. We don't make $100k. It frigging kills me. I could kill myslef to get into the public schools, but it's horrible to get in. The hours are sucky. One mazel of the work I do, while I worked less this year than in other years I was able to do drop off and pick up for Nechama every day. Fridays' my dad picked up, which helped, considering her school didn't start until 9am, which just meant I couldn't start working until after that time which is annoying but not so terrible, since I make my schedule to an extent.

I get your reasons for doing Child Health plus for the kids. I've always been wary of it, in terms of being concerned about having coverage that my doctor's or pediatrician doesn't take.

OMG frigging Russians. Mike is working for Russian's and dealing with fraud, no fault and car insurance companies.
