Nothing more than Best Friends (Part One)
Summary: Yuto and Steph have been Best friends for a long time. They have never thought of liking each other in a different way, but what happens when a new person steps into the picture?
Steph looked up and saw Yuto concentrating during class. They have been best friends for as long as she could remember.
*FLASHBACK*
Steph looked down at the floor and saw her ice cream cone all melted and dirty. Tears began to gather at her eyes and they poured down her cheeks. A miniature Yuto with a husky voice asked her why she was crying. Steph looked down at the floor and pointed at the mess on the floor.
"Baka! That's why you're crying?!" He scolded.
Steph just whimpered and rubbed her eyes.
"Well don't cry just because of that. Come on, let's go buy you a new one!"
"Yuto always makes me happy again! That's why he's my best friend."
Yuto just held her little hand tightly.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
Yuto has always taken care of me no matter what happens. The class was interrupted by a guy that walked in. His hair was gorgeous and so was he. He introduced himself. "Hi, I'm Kento Watanabe." All the girls in the class seemed to swoon and whisper how cute he was. The guys groaned at all the girl's flailing.
After class Steph and her friend Rei began to talk about how cute Kento was.
"Kya! His hair is just so perfect!" Rei said.
"I know, right? He's so cute!"
"who's so cute?" Yuto asked as he came out of nowhere.
"oh just the new guy in our class." Rei sighed.
"ohhhh, Kento?" Yuto said.
"Yeah. You know, you should become his friend so you could introduce him to us. Eh?" Steph elbowed Yuto.
"Yeah right, do your own work! Are you ready to walk home?" Yuto and Steph always walked home together and Yuto would drop Steph off at her house.

The next day at school, Steph was putting away her books into her locker. She was with Rei chan.
"Hey! I see Kento!" He began to walk in their direction. Steph began to panic and she dropped one of her books on the floor. She kneeled down to get it but Kento reached it before her. She looked up and he was handing the book to her.
"Thank you..." she said shyly. Rei had her eyes locked on them excitedly.
"Your name is Steph, right?" He gave her a smile.
"Y-yea..."
"You have a boyfriend, don't you?"
"No"
"That's really hard to believe." The bell rang. "Well, see you in class Steph."
As he walked away Steph seemed to stand in shock, unable to move. She turned to look at Rei chan who was standing there with her mouth wide open. "Did that just happen?" Rei asked. They stared at each other and began to flail excitedly.
During lunch Yuto, Rei, and Steph sat together. Then Yuto's friend Daiki joined them too.
"I think Kento likes you Steph. Otherwise, why would he have asked you if you had a boyfriend? And I saw the way he was looking at you during class!" Rei said. Yuto and Daiki rolled their eyes.
"Hey hey now, don't go making up stories. You don't know for sure. It could be just your imagination." Daiki said.
"Why? Are you jealous?"
"No I'm not! I'm just trying to bring you back into reality."
"Okay okay calm down." Yuto said. Steph just laughed and she got up with Rei chan to throw away their plates. When they had gone, Daiki began to talk to Yuto.
"So how do you feel about Kento possibly liking Steph?"
"I'm completely okay with it. Why do you ask? It's not like there's something wrong with it. She's a good person and I've been best friends with her for a long time."
"Don't lie to yourself Yuto. Like you said, you've been knowing her for a long time. Are you really just going to let some new guy that came out of nowhere steal her away from you?" Daiki pointed towards Steph's direction and Yuto turned to see Kento talking to her and making her laugh.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Yuto replied.
"Sure you don't. But someday you are going to realize that once she finds someone she loves, she won't be as close to you as she used to be. And you are going to miss her."
Yuto just thought about Daiki's words. Do I really...? He covered up his feelings by saying,"Just shut up." And Daiki smiled, knowing his words were taking effect.
After school, Yuto was waiting for Steph by the exit where they usually met to walk home together. Before he knew it, a couple of minutes had passed by and Steph was nowhere to be seen. She never takes this long, he thought. He took out his phone and decided to text her.
Are you coming yet?
She texted back: Oh sorry. Kento is walking me home today. So just go ahead and go without me.
Yuto stared at this message for a long time. He was okay with this, but then again as he kept staring at the message, he seemed to feel some sadness in his heart. They always followed their normal routine and now Kento was ruining it. He began to walk home and went the usual way, passing all the shops. As he looked in the window of a shop, he saw Steph and Kento buying ice cream. Kento was holding Steph's books. Why is he being so close and friendly with her? Yuto thought. It's not like they're going out or anything. The feeling of sadness and loneliness came back. Am I being replaced?
