Ok, so a lot of people ask me what I do at my job, so I guess I'll just post about my typical day.
I get in in the morning, 8:30am-ish. There's usually already people there working from earlier in the morning, and also samples are waiting on the counter on top of a small stack of paperwork. I take the paperwork, log it into the computer, copy some info into my lab book, grad the procedure from a big filing cabinet, and see what tests need to be done on the sample. I then run the tests that are applicable to me, such as titrations, pH, viscosity, specific gravity, etc (typical wet chemistry). Then after I do all the applicable tests I do a few quick calculations to see if the values are correct, if they are I log them into the computer, and pass the sample to the next person to do whatever tests they need to do on it. If the values are out of specifications (out of spec, as we call it) then I log the results into the computer and page the operator to get them to take a new sample. Then I start the next sample. After I get the first sample back (the resample) I do all the tests again to make sure the values are correct, if they are I pass it on, if they're still not, then I have to find the boss and he has to decide how much stuff to add to the batch (where the sample came from) to correct the values. Then I fill out the right paperwork, file it in the computer, and go on to the next sample. Thats pretty much a typical day for me. Of course there's other things too, but those aren't really the main things. I pretty much do this all day.
