and that's kinda sad.
I love the babies. It's no joke.
I love everything about womanhood, reproduction, birth, parenting, you name it.
Because I feel that if we want to solve most of the problems in our world, we need to start from there. I believe that if we find the best values and goals to have as parents, not exactly the same style, then everything else will fall in line, like drug use, violence, crime, etc. I think parents today are a bit more concerned about themselves than their children, and I think this plays a part in how we as individuals only care about ourselves and not about everyone else in society. It's like a ripple effect.
I feel like this is something you should obsess about. These are human lives, people, that you are responsible for, that will shape this country and world as we know it, and affect many millions of other people as well. I find it kind of a big deal.
So now that I've explained my "obsession"...
I get stressed out. A lot. By stupid people on the internet. I use the internet to its fullest potential. I want to be a doula and midwife one day, so mothers and crazy preggies are basically my future client base. So what does any good company do? Research their client base. And I do so. Where do you find a lot of moms and crazy preggies putting it all out there, saying what they like, and do not like, and want vs. not want? The internet, specifically a magnificent site called Baby Center, sometimes known as bbc. Now on magical BBC there are boards, about EVERYTHING you can ever imagine. Religion, Race, Income, Musical Preferences, whatever. Specifically, there are boards tailored to what I am interested in and what I think my clients would be, so I should be knowledgable about it to support them.
It's really no surprise that if you go with a midwife in this country, you're probably research crazy and question "the man," and follow your gut and do what feels right. This puts us into the general realm of "crunchiness." Crunchy has variable standards to how crunchy you are/can be. Crunchy people are probably interested in things like Cloth Diapering, Attachment Parenting, Extended Breastfeeding, Delayed/Selective/Non-Vaccinating, Home Birth, and just other crunchy things in general like lotus birth, placenta encapsulation, making your own baby food, whatever. I'm a member of all of those boards I've just mentioned. I get to see a lot of what women who desire midwives also desire. I want to be supportive of them as women and as mothers, I want them to be able to identify with me. That's what I would want in a midwife.
In frequenting these boards, a lot, I've made some friends through this site, some I call on a regular basis. People who like to talk about the things I like to talk about. And every now and again I'll see something one of my friends responded to and it just puts me in a bad mood. Like everyone on the Pregnant Teenagers board adamantly stating how their children will be put on birth control as soon as possible. This pisses me off, if bc is such a good idea, why the hell weren't you on it? OR the crazy bitch on the Unmedicated Natural Childbirth board who thinks she is the all knowing just because she is a Labor and Delivery Nurse and this is how HER hospital does it. You are not going to sway the beliefs of everyone on the board that most OBs and hospitals are of the devil, I don't care what YOU think or what YOUR hospital does. AND the endless debate about whether to use a cover nursing in public or not, or the fact that you hang out with the biggest prude on the planet who shunned you out of her baby shower because you decided to nurse your son in a room full of mothers. It's not just people on there, it's baby center itself and its sometimes misinformation. I don't know why I was surprised when I clicked the article "What you don't know about vaccinations" and it was basically an ad straight from the CDC. What about the fact that vaccines contain mercury and aborted fetus cells? What about the fact that half of the children who died in California from whooping cough were vaccinated? What about the fact that death rate from measles was already declining at the same rate it was after the invention of the mmr vaccine? What about the fact that pediatricians sware up and down they are safe yet they only study vaccinations two weeks in med school and the government has a pile of money for victims of vaccination injuries known as the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program? I'm not saying vax or don't, it's a personal choice. I'm just saying the companies who create them have no reason to go to the limits to test their safety since they can never get sued, thanks to that government fund, and I'm also saying that all of the facts aren't being put out there. What this post is really about is that I'm tired of the stupidity and ignorance being spread by figures of authority in America, whether it be obstetricians, pediatricians, or the government itself. And I'm tired of people that are too damn lazy to actually give a crap what is actually best for their child. End rant.
