Be still, my beating heart

For the past couple of days the online world of Ioan / Horatio Hornblower fans has been in a squee-ful turmoil thanks to a rumour.

There was a short snippet of a story (check here for it) in which Ioan says he'd love to bring Hornblower to the big screen and that since the company which produced the tv-movies isn't going to do anything about it anymore, it'd be up to him personally to do something about it.

It was the snowflake to start the avalance of eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! all around the forums. (And I've been echoing it somewhat more silently, although not a bit less enthusiastically - eeeee!)

Sadly, there are heaps of obstacles to be heaved away before Ioan can don the gorgeous uniform and pace the quarterdeck again. Most of those obstacles have to do with finances, I'm sure. (And the rights to Forester's novels.) In other words, the realist in me isn't going to hold her breath quite yet. There's a bit of hopeful optimism, however, that the movie(s) will see daylight in the future. Much will depend on Ioan's career, how well he begins to get name for himself.

But the fangirl, oh my. The fangirl in me is madly running around, flailing her arms and squeeeing as much as is humanly possible. Please, please, please, please make this happen! Bring Hornblower to the big screen! PLEASE! Soon! What do you want me to do to make it happen? I'll do it! Please, pretty pretty please!

And oh, if I now play my cards right, I will soon have some expertise on the matters of Forester's novels... :P Perhaps they'll need an assistant historian on set or something? (Unfortunately I don't think I would qualify for the role of Lady Barbara, Horatio's second wife, not with my nonexistent acting skills. Shame.)

A girl can dream, can't she? (And in the meanwhile, please please please Finnkino, bring Amazing Grace into theatres in Finland, too!)
