[ ooc ] LONGEST SURVEY EVER

Aug 16, 2010 02:19

.... Yeah, I am a lemur.

... Lemming?

... THIS SURVEY IS TIME AND SOUL-CONSUMING but I will probably do this for Rise and Asuka too I'm sorry flist I love you.

Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
She's 5'3", but she's got long legs and a thin build. ... Still doesn't change the fact that she's SHORT, sob. The ponytail just adds a few inches.

2. How old is she?
17! I will... attempt to puzzle out the timeline of her birthday later in this survey which will probably not end well.

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Kay is not a sloucher unless she's positively disheartened, and that's really only because her body language always reflects her feelings. Around Edgeworth, and having been raised among tall people like her father and Badd, she probably made a conscious effort to stand up straight.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
She's one of those people who will only get sick if she spends time out in frigid rain, soaked to the bone, for a few days, and then runs out to plunge into frigid WATER to swim and drag people to safety-- uh, HYPOTHETICALLY. In other words, she's very healthy and very fit.

Unlike a certain someone.

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
She's... unwavering. By which I mean once Kay picks a direction, she charges in it, and I suppose that could be graceful if you really had to call it that, but her Default Pace is Run. She's fluid enough, but all of her movements are just plain dynamic.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
She's... cute! Pretty, actually, if she were to actually do something with her appearance, but Larry flat-out called her a cutie-- though this is Larry we're talking about. Kay's not the kind of girl to stare in the mirror and go "Heeeeeey, gorgeous", but she's apt to jokingly call herself beautiful. I don't think she really cares too much about her appearance, though, as opposed to... say, Franziska.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
She's kind of in the middle, but more on the light side, and definitely a clear complexion. She's not Edgeworth pale, though.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
It's black, thick, soft and wavy. She keeps it up in a ponytail all the time (except when she sleeps, probably), most likely for practical purposes.

9. What color are her eyes?
Green.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
... She wears a key in her hair?

11. What are her chief tension centers?
Mooost likely her hands, given how often she uses them. Glove-adjusting, using Little Thief, etc. Her wrists probably ache from time to time.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Casual but cute. Kay is obviously a fan of bright colors and favors pink, but even her outfit's got a level of practicality to it. Sure she has a skirt, but she's got shorts underneath for certain reasons. On Route, her alternate outfit was a burglar one, and though she might wear the baseball cap (which is a little big on her) and the sweatshirt or the pants, she won't wear them in combination. Whatever's comfortable to her is what she'll wear; she's not ridiculously picky.

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes, they do, and yes she is. Especially now that she knows Kaito LOOKED UP HER SKIRT thank god for shorts.

14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
The... Yatagarasu doesn't actually have an alternate costume, though Kay may choose to wear her Burglar outfit just for the sake of blending in better at night.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
... Wouldn't you like to know.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
She... sounds like a seventeen-year-old girl. She doesn't have a squeaky voice, it's just... normal, really. I guess you could call it cute.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Kay never hesitates. :( But speaking-wise, she's a relatively fast speaker-- she's got nothing on Oldbag, though. She just speaks coherently enough, and somewhat playfully, in that she'll draw out her words on occasion in a teasing manner.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Nope. Except she might do plays on words or repetition, like "You can call me 'Kay', 'kay?"

4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
She speaks English fluently.

... And that is that.

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No, she does not!

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
There is a reason why she's called "laughably honest". Kay never thinks about her words, but has kind of made it an art form to speak impromptu... ly.

7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Kay really only becomes eloquent when it's a serious topic, because it's the only time she stops to consider her words. She's had time to think. But that doesn't mean she's inarticulate the rest of the time; she gets her meaning across succinctly, just not in big words BECAUSE SHE'S NOT A LAWYER.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Both; she proved that she remembered what her father had taught her about preserving evidence, and I believe she's had at LEAST three years of knowledge gained about the workings of court and law and prosecutorial proceedings. And she said she wanted to be a "Hero of Justice, just like Daddy", meaning at some point she must have wanted to be a prosecutor. And since seven years passed before she found out the truth, she probably kept up her studies. She had enough sense to perfectly preserve the evidence of her father's killer, and she learned how to operate Little Thief on her own, and it's a pretty complicated piece of gadgetry.

And she DOES have common sense, she just opts not to use it from time to time. Still, she's out there, and she's learning from it. She's not as stupid as her... enthusiasm and recklessness would lead a lot of people to believe.

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
Very much a think-on-her-feet-er. The INSTANT Kay heard the Yatagarasu had shown up at the Embassy, she was already running, and when she was denied access to one side, she blurted out, "Mr. Edgeworth, I'm going to climb the fence from the other side and enter the embassy that way!!"

... Which is illegal, bless her, but she made a dash for it anyway. She also pulled one hell of a bluff in order to catch the mastermind behind the smuggling ring, after he almost got away AGAIN, and she hadn't deliberated on it at all. That's just how she is, and she'd be the first to say a thief HAS to think on their feet.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Kay is capable of being practical and logical, but really, that's what Edgeworth is for, and she's pretty idealistic, even after everything that's happened to her. She's like that to the point where she at first tearfully denies the fact that Calisto Yew and Byrne Faraday are both the Yatagarasu, because it's such a harsh blow of reality that she can't physically take it upon hearing it. Besides, SOMEONE has to have imagination in this series.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
I imagine it's been fairly normal schooling, in the eleventh grade most likely. She probably attends school back where she lives with her relatives, who live far away from LA.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Little Thief is an area of expertise, despite Kay never having used it for its intended purpose of disarming any security system. She's rather knowledgeable on current events, having probably followed the papers and announcements since her father's death in the hopes that her father's killer would resurface, and she's a damned good investigational assistant, or investigator on her own. She was the one to find her father's secret diary, after all. Even if that was just while searching through his bookshelf.

... She prides herself on being a humongous Jammin' Ninja fan. :( And once she actually starts thieving, there's another area, but at the moment, that's the one she's interested in right now. And dueling, thanks to her Route buddies.

I guess you could say she's also great at teasing and pulling pranks ever since a wee age.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
EXTROVERT ALL THE WAY. Even if sometimes she feels subdued, she'll always put up a smiling front. I mean hell, she perked herself up two seconds after she had a bawling session after her dad's death, and that was when she was TEN. There haven't been known instances of her crying that hard since then, either.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Kay is 100% cheerful and enthusiastic, and lives her life from day to day, though once she's found a goal or something to motivate her, she kicks it into overdrive and becomes unstoppable. She can pout and frown and grumble, but usually snaps out of it within seconds. It's difficult to get her genuinely angry, but once you press the right button, she's a fireball and is prone to acting rashly.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Definitely enthusiastic, though she could stand to be a tad more suspicious these days. Kay has the personality where she can make friends with total strangers in a matter of minutes. Like with Gumshoe, and even though he forgot her for seven years, the instant he remembered, they were back to being chummy and buddy-buddy.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Act. REACTING IS FOR SLOW PEOPLE. Mind you, the acting usually gets her in trouble and danger, but Kay isn't the kind to sit and wait, and then respond. Not unless she has to.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Fight. And trust me, she's always ready to bring it.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Kay LOVES pranks. Unless she's the victim, but that's incredibly rare. She's got a mischievous streak and loves teasing anyone and everyone and giving them nicknames, but it's all incredibly good-natured. If something's got ill-intent, she won't have anything to do with it.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Nooope.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Oh boy. Her keeping a notebook with promises between her and father came into play early on, and it's a clear reminder of Kay's morals and how she strives to keep her promises to her dad, even after he's passed on. On that note, her father's death impacted her greatly. He was the most important person in her life, after all. Then there was the discovering of the diary with the line "I have no regrets in choosing to walk the path of the Yatagarasu", which subsequently led to Kay finding out that her father was the Yatagarasu and setting her down that same path, both because she felt it was the honorable thing to do and because he wouldn't have been able to rest in peace with unfinished business and his killer out there. There was meeting Edgeworth, and then lastly, there was the whole Embassy fiasco with her FINALLY learned the whole truth behind the Yatagarasu and her father's murder. It was then that Kay lost a lot of her idealistic innocence, but she emerged from it a stronger person.

14. What does she fear?
Losing anyone else close to her. Once is painful enough. Also, she's afraid that she won't be able to succeed as the Yatagarasu; she has some big shoes to fill, but ultimately, Kay won't let this worry hold her back.

15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
She wanted to be a ninja once. She also wanted to be a prosecutor, but Kay's true goal is to be the actual successor of the Yatagarasu and not just someone who uses Little Thief. It's her dream to create a world that doesn't need a vigilante thief like the Yatagarasu, a world free of corruption. So right now, her major aspiration is to become that thief, so she can also say that she doesn't have any regrets about choosing that path.

16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
That she's hurting a lot more deeply than she's letting on. She only found out the whole truth a few days before arriving in Johto, and she's had so many lies uncovered and betrayals that it's worn her down. She's still struggling to be wary and suspicious, even if it's in her nature to want to trust and believe in others; Johan helped her out on this issue recently, so she's done better with it.

Also, she's worried that she's not cut out to be a thief with her morals still very much present, but no one will ever know that.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Kay's relationship with her mother is practically nonexistent. After her father's death, she was raised by her mother's relatives, who she said lived far away, meaning that there's a good chance her mother is no longer alive, or left, most likely when Kay was very young. As for Byrne, he was, without a doubt, Kay's hero and she idolized and adored him and still thinks very highly of him after his death. He instilled in her a sense of justice and righteousness and, after he died, the idea that doing the right thing meant sometimes working outside of the law he'd been so bent on protecting. She becomes absolutely furious when she hears him referred to as a thorn in someone's side. It's true that a lot of what Kay is today is because of her father.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
She does not.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Blood relatives, no. Kay doesn't speak of them that often, even though they raised her.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
There's Tyrell Badd, once the head detective and a partner of her father's-- both in investigations and as part of the Yatagarasu. He was around since Kay's birth, and to her, he is family. She calls him "Uncle Badd". On Route, she's viewed Smoker as an uncle, and the way he looks out for her and the way she treats him only emphasizes that.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Sadly, she... does not have one. Unless you mean Route, and since Johan is best friends with Juudai... she STILL doesn't have one, poor girl. In time, I could see her becoming tight with Maya, as lawyerly-assistants and dorky teenage girls.

6. Does she have other close friends?
Edgeworth and Gumshoe are both very important people to her, some cross between friends and family, even with a seven-year gap between their meeting and reunion. Route-wise, she's become super close to Johan, and then Kaito, and then Juudai and Crow and-- Kay why are you friends with so many guys. Those are her closest, but she's also becoming good friends with Maya and Trucy.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Pffft, are you kidding. Kay will make friends within SECONDS, just give her the time to make eye contact and smile. She does have to be careful with the Yatagarasu secret, though.

8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
You really can't compare them. If you're a friend or family, you are automatically important enough that Kay will risk nearly EVERYTHING for you.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single, not actively looking, because that's not even on her list of priorities, nor does she have enough experience on the subject or the personality to be boy-crazy.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Fffffno.

11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
I maintain that her first crush was the Jammin' Ninja. And her latest on Route is... Johan, although Kay is not at all sure that it's a crush yet and hasn't quiiiite realized it, and is happy not dwelling on it too much, because it brings up all sorts of questions and confusion and results in one massive headache.

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
It's not so much an active thing, but more of a fact that Kay's drawn to confident people. If they can't respect themselves, then she can't respect them. And support. She needs someone who'll support her and who isn't going to be rigid and uptight about the whole thieving thing, but also someone who'll be able to talk sense into her when she's being far too reckless, but who won't insisting on keeping her on a leash or holding her back. A sense of adventure and humor is also a good start. Maybe appearance factors in a tiny bit, but it's not anything she'll use as a defining factor.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
SHE IS TOO YOUNG and will not even consider kids until she's completed her task as Yatagarasu. She would never potentially put a kid through what she went through.

14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
All corrupt organizations are enemies, and her father's killer has since been taken care of. :( No rivals yet, though, as she's still a fairly new thief.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
0, if she even cared enough about that sort of thing. Possibly a 1 on occasion, but yeah, Kay's heterosexual.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
NEVER EVEN CROSSED HER MIND.

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
... For the love of-- SHE'S NOT READY FOR THAT YET.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Attempting to figure out Kay's birthday is headache-inducing, as she was 10 as of September 2011 and 17 as of March 2019, meaning she'd be turning 18 at some point between Mid-March and early September. Yeeeah, not much narrowing down. I do want to say she's a Leo, though, just because she really is a leader/adventurer type. Chinese-wise, she's year of the Snake, which is... just hilarious because she's nothing like that.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
I'd say neither, really. It's not anything important, and anyone who attended trials for murderers and thieves and bad guys probably isn't going to be that religious.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Kay has a very set code of morals, in which she will only ever steal from corrupt people and businesses, and that she will never EVER take a life. Unless someone needed her help and it would really depend on the situation - such as Kaito stealing gems - she wouldn't change her rules of stealing. And she'd never break that one to not steal a life. A burden like that would destroy her. All of this probably started with that book of promises she had with Byrne, which she followed near-religiously.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Curious, mostly, but that depends on the beliefs. If someone believes they have the right to kill other people, Kay won't accept that at all. And if anyone tries to force their beliefs on her, she'll balk immediately.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Kay... doesn't really have prejudices, since she understands the law, but she also understands those who work outside of it. However, if you do bad things for the sake of... being bad, she will automatically dislike you and call you evil. She refers to Calisto Yew as "that evil woman" and flatly refuses to believe that she was actually partnered with her father until Edgeworth's logic gets through to her. Even after that, though, she remarks about having seen into her heart and how cold and lonely it is, so she's not entirely "GOD I HATE YOU" about her.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
... She's a teenager, she gets by, and she most likely had an allowance when she was younger so she could help pay for expensive SWISS ROLLS goddamn court vending machines. In Route, she's comfortable enough to get by with the supplies she gets in towns.

2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Kay... could be popular if she wanted to, but with her work now, I doubt she'll be doing that back home. She's gotten fairly close to a lot of people in Route, though.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
I'd say she lives in a house with her relatives, and it isn't HOME, it's just where she lives now. Route-wise, she doesn't stay in one place long enough to establish a home.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Probably things like snack foods and supplies. Smoke bombs, matches, pads of paper, batteries, etc. The occasionally girly or fan thing, like Princess Misola's hair sticks and other accessories. In Route, stuff for her Pokémon, clothing, food and heist stuff when she can find anything that would be useful.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
She's still a teenager, though she's been getting work at Route as a nurse at the centers, and has gotten to be proficient at it. When she's not setting Gyaradoses loose and whatnot. But if you asked, she'd say thief, and is working at getting better at it. She's found a thrill in doing it, at least, although this didn't quite go with her plan of being a HERO OF JUSTICE. Kind of.

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
JAMMIN' NINJAAAAAA is the one show she adores and so that's one big interest for her. She probably owns all of the DVDs. Thief stuff has become an interest for her, as well as things involving making a good entrance, dramatic speeches, and uh. Apparently she really likes festivals and high places. Anything exciting and lively is something that will always hold her attention, including contests because Kay loves prizes.

... And she loves shiny and valuable-looking items that she will joke about stealing but never actually mean it.

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
She's not a picky eater, so she'll eat most anything, so long as it's three meals a day to keep her energy up.

Associations
Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is her favorite:

1. Color? Pink.
2. Smell? Cherry blossoms. Her theme song just makes me think of them. Swirling. Epicly.
3. Time of day? Dusk.
4. Season? Summer, just beginning to turn to Autumn.
5. Book? Her promise notebook. :( Or her father's diary, either or.
6. Music? This is just a given. I mean-- probably something Japanese-sounding with electric guitars, sup favorite show.
7. Place? SOMEPLACE HIGH I am so specific.
8. Substance? Clouds.
9. Plant? ... Lilies. Don't ask me why.
10. Animal? Raven.
