Angry, violent cocks

Baz left last night and I was too tired to get out of bed at Gonzalo's house to go and say goodbye in person. So we called him and wished him a good flight and I casually made sure that he'd given Liz the May rent money. Although it's weird that Bertha hasn't called to get the rent yet, because that's normally the only thing she's on top of.

Today we're finally going to see a cockfight. I'm still not sure whether it's gonna make me feel horrible or if I'm just going to enjoy all the culturalness surrounding it. Mine told me that she hates bullfights and thinks they're awful, but that cockfights are a more enjoyable, cultural experience. I know that the breed of rooster they use for the fights is actually one that fights naturally all the time; you actually have to keep the males separated from a young age so they don't kill each other. But I've also heard that they tape knives to the cocks' feet to make the fight go faster, and that just seems sick. But whatever, me watching it isn't going to make them stop doing it so I might as well see something that I can only see in Mexico. Barry, Danica, Sarah, Lauren and Dave all want to come too so it'll be interesting trying to squeeze us all into the car.

I talked to Victor and Rosben (teachers at my school) while we all super drunk at the goodbye party on Friday, and they told me they're pretty sure school is going to start again, although maybe not on the 6th like the government's been saying. I think I heard someone say the 11th, but any time is fine as long as we actually go back to school. That's given me some hope about staying here. Also the fact that not everybody's gone, and my favourite restaurant (Tlayudas Oaxaqueñas) is still open. Gonz and I split a tlayuda last night and as usual it was sooo gooooood aashgklahf I'm hungry. Gonzalo Sr. made us breakfast this morning but it was eggs with "sausage", AKA cut-up hot dogs, so I didn't eat too much. Now I want some chilaquiles.
