If you be my star
I'll be your sky
you can hide underneath me and come out at night
when I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine
Queen Minnie hummed to herself as she cleaned in the King's chambers, a song in 6/8 time from a ball she'd attended several nights prior. She spun and twirled, re-organizing the clothes in the King's closet to keep them fresh and yet still easy to find, pausing to polish a crown or two. Her own things were tidied quickly, but she picked through every sock in the her husband's drawers, looking for odd socks or ones that needed repair. A King must always look his best, and for Minnie, it was a pleasure to keep everything ready for Mickey at a moment's notice. And of course, as his Queen, she also had to look her best, but that was barely a challenge, if it was for Mickey.
but you can skyrocket away from me
and never come back if you find another galaxy
far from here with more room to fly
just leave me your stardust to remember you by
She paused to smile at a picture. Mickey stood by the very first Gummi ship ever built, an excited and happy look on his face. Minnie was also in the picture, standing with her hands folded and a serene smile on her lips, off to one side where she was almost invisible. She had known well before that moment that Mickey would be leaving, but she'd never minded. He wasn't the sort of person to be happy sitting in one place all the time.
She moved the picture to dust the shelf behind it and made a small noise of pleasure, carefully picking up the delicate little shell from some foreign world. It was strung on a fine silver chain, and Minnie knew it had been left there for her on purpose, so she strung it around her neck and admired it in a mirror.
if you be my boat
I'll be your sea
a depth of pure blue just to probe curiosity
ebbing and flowing and pushed by a breeze
I live to make you free
I live to make you free
With the shell resting just above her heart, Queen Minnie went to the library to take care of the kingdom's business. It was a labor of hours, and Minnie took it seriously. The health and welfare of the subjects weighed on her shoulders, and she bore it proudly. Mickey trusted her with it, and she took care to keep that trust. It was such joy to listen to him talk about all the things he had discovered on his latest trips, she never wanted to dim that time with minutiae.
but you can set sail to the west if you want to
and past the horizon till I can't even see you
far from here where the beaches are wide
just leave me your wake to remember you by
Every time the King returned, he left again, of course. He was like an explosion of light into the lives of everyone who met him. Minnie would never force him to stay when he needed to go--he had friends in places no one else knew existed, and they needed him, too--but she was always grateful for those tales. They were things to share and treasure with the whole kingdom. Nothing gave Minnie so much pleasure as hearing people talk about the wonderful things her husband had done.

With the paperwork out of the way, Minnie went to change her gown for dinner; it was a formal one tonight, a banquet to celebrate the opening of a new school for the children. Regretfully, she hung the shell on its chain on the bedpost by her pillow. She wasn't ready to share it with others just yet, but she felt sad to remove it.
At the banquet, she circulated smoothly, speaking to everyone who needed to be spoken to or wanted to be spoken to. She told stories to some of the children about the King's adventures, and the key, and the brave knight and magician who journeyed to save all the worlds.
And then, there was a stir by the door.
but you can skyrocket away from me

Minnie slid through the crowd toward the center of the disturbance. What could be wrong? She thought she had taken care of everything that needed to be taken care of, even keeping hotheads apart from one another.
As she neared the door, she stopped in her tracks for a long moment, then hurried forward again with as much haste as grace.
Mickey took her hands in his, smiling, and the world fell away from them as Minnie smiled back. Neither said a word, just looking at each other as the banquet went on around them, unnoticed and unneeded.

They both knew Mickey would be off again, possibly even as early as dawn, but for now, the wordless touch of hands was all they needed.
