We all have something we treasure. Hell, maybe a few things. For some of my granddaughters, one of the biggest treasures they have are American Girl Dolls. For those not familiar with them, they are made in a variety of, hair color & styles, face moulds and ethnicities so the buyer can get dolls that resemble the girls who own them. My granddaughter Aubrey has one that has her hair color and similar eyeglasses so it is her virtual "mini-me". It is also her most prized posession.
Becki recently heard of a young hospice patient who is a 10 year old girl. She knows this will likley be her last Christmas and she is afraid that Santa will not come to her in the hospital. Aubrey overheard Becki talking about this with her sister.
Aubrey: "Pretty Maw-maw (that's the name Aubrey came up with for Becki), this girl is only 10 years old and this will be her last Christmas?"
Becki: "Yes, baby. She's very sick."
Aubrey: "Can I give her my American Girl doll?"
Becki: "That's very sweet of you but they've arranged for special call from Santa* so he can tell her that he knows where she is and to promise that he will not miss her."
Aubrey ponders this for a moment. "Well, if she needs any outfits for her American Girl doll, tell her that I have a lot of them she can have."
Yeah, my granddaughter is a pretty cool kid.
** The hospice that is caring for this little girl has arranged for a Christmas Eve Skype from Santa. They have also made sure the desired American Girl doll will be waiting for her on Christmas morning.
