Adventures in Travel - Day 2

Mar 20, 2008 00:11

Being on Pacific Time takes some adjustment.
I woke this morning at 5 a.m. PDT, which makes sense since that's 7 a.m. CDT, the time I normally would awake on a Wednesday. Now though it's midnight PDT which means 2 a.m. CDT and I'm not yet in bed. That's going to mean some real adjustment when I get back home.
Good day number two, though.
Woke up to NPR's Morning Edition, had some breakfast (I'm staying at a great B&B three subway stops from the conference hotel,) then heading to the Marriott to pick up my registration material. Dreary, mostly underground place. Entered on the ground level and went down three escalators to the conference level. All was in order with the registration. My sessions don't start until tomorrow so I left and hit the Apple Store a block away.
Then Starbucks, the H&M where I got a great blue hoodie on sale, then back to the B&B and off to a favorite nearby bookstore, Books Inc., the oldest independent bookseller in San Francisco. Then back to rest a bit and head back down to the Apple Store for a free workshop on iWork, Apple's office suite. Been using it for some time but still learned a lot. Bought a laptop sleeve (so I don't have to lug the entire laptop bag all the time) and left for the B&B. Then off to find a good Thai restaurant. Thailand Restaurant on Castro turned out to be "on vacation" so I searched a couple blocks more and found Thai Express.
Pineapple Thai fried rice with vegetables, almonds and chicken. Phenomenal. And Thai iced tea. I won't need to eat for another day.
(By the way, after I checked in here late last night I headed straight for the ultimate diner - Orphan Andy's. Vinyl booths. With individual jukeboxes. Very "Happy Days." Open 24 hours.)
Now it's time to end Day 2 and prepare for another day by the Bay.
