I've looked forward to this trip for some time and I even got my paper done a couple of days before leaving, allowing for time for proofing and for packing.
And then, wouldn't you know it, severe weather threatens the new heart of Tornado Alley - otherwise known as Jackson, TN - the day I'm going to be at 30,000 feet on my way to the City by the Bay.
To add to my stress, as we leave the gate in Denver (where I changed planes) we get to the runway and the pilot says there's a problem and we have to return to the gate to get it fixed so as to be "safe."
I'd already paid to watch some cable channels, so I watched and waited. We took off an hour late and I decided to pay more to watch a movie.
The flight attendant asked if I'd like a drink and I said, "Diet Coke." She said she'd be right back and get my credit card.
My credit card? For a Diet Coke?
She returns with a regular Coke (which I despise) and a mini-bottle of Jack Daniels.
She thought I said, "Jack and Coke."
I laughed and told her, "First of all, nobody should every mix Jack Daniels with Coke. And, second, after the way this day's gone, just leave the Jack Daniels and bring me some water." She laughed, took my card and returned with some water and my card and a receipt.
So I spent the rest of the flight watching "Enchanted" and drinking Jack Daniels.
