SMAP made a live appearance in the "Ashita e Concert 2016" in March. I was a performer as well as a host, a big role in the show. The first thing I thought of was the fact that this show is dedicated to the victims of the affected areas. I hosted the show thinking that my mission was to pay attention to all the artists and carry through the whole show to the end. It's the same thing I do for SMAP. I've always said this but I always keep calm and compose all the time and I will not change, this is how I work. So when all five members of SMAP got to appear together after a long time in this show, I kept my calm. As long as we get to make people in the hall, people who watch TV, smile even just a bit, I'm happy.
As everyone knows, I don't usually check the internet. I don't read the newspaper and also watch TV at this time around. So actually I didn't know what kind of news it became. However, "I strongly feel just how much SMAP is supported by everyone, this time. Please continue to support us." What I said in the SMAPxSMAP press conference was everything I felt.
Recent happening:
On off-days, sometimes I think "Maybe I should go out today..." In the end, before I know it, I spent the whole day inside the house, not stepping out even a single step... When I start to read books, one whole day pass by so fast. Recently I read a lot of mystery books.

When the commotion happened, the one thing I thought was that we should never tell the people who have supported us "This is the end" without making an effort... and so, that's how we chose to make the announcement. Many people say "That's not the press conference we'd like to see!" However we did feel that we wanted to show all the fans and all the people our current condition in the midst of our struggle. To return to our previous condition, all five and five of us have to make up our minds, so that we can go forward.
When my artist friends says the word "nation-wide" I was surprised and I just realized just how big SMAP is as a group, more than I thought. I can feel the fans' love for us daily, but the other people... even a common ojisan who is not a member of the fan club might hear the news like we're his acquaintance... My beach friends are worried too. They said "Seems like many things happening, why don't you wash away all the gloomy feelings in the sea?" they'd ask me out. One of them seem really worried right after the press conference and asked me innocently, "So it means... you guys are disbanding, anyway?" and I had to give him a bitter smile "Dakara, I said we're NOT!!" (laugh) It's a few months when I can directly feel how people loves SMAP...
SMAP have sung so many cheering songs and always bragged that we have made the fans happy. We are the senders not the recipients, but this case makes our roles have gone totally reversed. I really, deeply apologize for that. Since so many people need us, the five of us will switch our feelings and SMAP will keep going forward.
Recent happening:
My leg got injured during movie filming. The orthopedist recommended me to go through rehabilitation in the pool. So I went to the gym for the first time since 5-6 years ago. All the staff has changed, I was surprised. Someone called me "Doomo!" and when I turned around, it's Higashiyama (Noriyuki)-san. I felt so lonely (due to the staff change) so I felt glad to see him. (laugh) It feels so sad for me to go to the gym just for rehabilitation so I started training too... lately, I feel my clothes are too small. (laugh) My leg has mostly recovered too.

The first thing I'd like to say is... I deeply apologize for making everyone worried. Most of the time, we are supported by everyone's feelings for us. I was once again surprised of how big SMAP is as a group. I'm happy at the same time I feel a big responsibility. So many news crossing each other and it have made everyone feel anxious, I'm so sorry. The news and opinions have somehow got expanded more and more. I guess that's how the internet social media era is now.
Personally, I had to star "Koi to Ongaku FINAL" stageplay right after the commotion, and as I thought, "to stand directly in front on the fans" is a very important thing. I was given an invisible power in that particular time. I didn't say a thing about the case, but I feel that my heart is connected with the fans... I was relieved when I felt that. In the midst of that commotion, I felt so lucky that I got to breath the same air as the people who are supporting us.
When people live, including us, we will experience many things. When something big happens, we'll realize a lot of things. This time, there are many things I realized and I feel like I have grown more. There are many kinds of people around me too. There are people who directly comfort me, there are people who stay quiet and just watch over me. I can feel everyone supporting SMAP and me while expressing their love in different ways. I feel grateful.
As we have always done before, we will keep looking ahead of us. I want to cherish the fact that that won't change. And for all the fans whom we have made worried because of the case, I hope we can return you the favour.
Recent happening:
I met my nephew (my sister's son) after a long time. He's an elementary school student now and very shy. He didn't want to look at me. I guess I was that kind of kid too. We were awkward in the beginning (laugh), but he finally let me play together with him. My sister lived in Okinawa for a few years so I didn't get to see them for a long time, but she just returned here recently. So I might get to see my nephew a lot more from now on.

The case this time made me realize just how much people support us... The newspapers news continued for several days, and TV news reported SMAP's case too, I was really surprised at the same time grateful. Personally, I did a big failure before. That time, I also felt what a big group SMAP is, more than I thought. The case this time made my feeling of "So SMAP is a group that can steal the attention of the whole Japan" got stronger. Also fans are buying "Sekai ni Hitotsu dake no Hana" CD, and trying to convey their feelings for us... I heard about this. I'm really grateful and I hope we can answer your feelings even just a bit.
Unlike Shingo, I don't have any outdoor filmings so I don't get to hear much people's voices in the town... During the commotion, I had a job, the drama "Specialist." I was glad that I had something I could focus on during that time. People who watch that drama would think "Aa, Tsuyoshi-kun ganbatteru(is working hard)!" and it would make them feel a bit relieved and I hope it made them think a little bit more positive.
We still can't see a detailed way for us to return the fans' feelings, but I think it's important for us to keep moving forward bit by bit. We should not stop. By moving forward, we will be able to achieve a result.
Recent happening:
My drama is over so I have a lot of free time now and doing things I like. I went as far as Kyoto to watch cherry blossoms. I also got together with my friend who likes vintage guitars as well. And that person let me touch his guitar. I've continued to be very busy everyday till now, so it's been a long time since I feel fulfilled with my private activities... But... I might get bored very soon now. (laugh)

Everyone's strong feelings, how big SMAP is, I just realized once again that they're really more than I thought. When I go filming Ojamap, even an old man who normally doesn't talk much would suddenly say to me "Ganbatte" a voice that filled with sincereness, some of them even cried for us. It's heart warming and I'd bow to them saying "Arigatou gozaimasu!"... but the next moment, I had to do something stupid while eating lots of food together with Zakiyama... that mood-switching was quite difficult. (laugh) But I'm really happy with everyone's feelings. I'm grateful. It's really a different "Ganbatte!" than what I've heard so far, I got to hear a various of "Ganbatte!" voices.
And in the midst of my tight schedule, it was really good that I got my drama "Kazoku no Katachi" that I could focus on, and also the level of concentration that the live broadcast of SmaSTATION required, it helped me to focus when my head is about to be full with so many thoughts. "The warmth of people that I coincidentally met" and "how I feel directly the morning air and the sun" both has cheered me up bit by bit. The drama is over and I finally get a free time. I'd like to slowly think of many things and step forward bit by bit.
Recent happening:
I'm worried about Kyushu. Personally, ... there was this lady who did my stand-in for my song performance standing position, for years... she got married and moved to Kumamoto. Lately, I heard her child was born. I heard from a crew, that she is living under shelter now and she is safe... When Tokyo had earthquake level of 5 I was inside the house... While she experienced level 7... I wonder just how scary it was. It must be very hard for everyone, but ganbatte!

Takuya's words hit me hard T_T Sasuga Kimura-kun T_T Yappari Kimura-kun wa Kimura-kun no mama... T_T His message is very straight forward.
"Are tte kaisan tte koto ssu ka?" "Dakara, SHINAI tte itta darou!!" T_T T_T T_T he clearly said it...
The part where he said that normally SMAP is the ones who gives and the fans receives, but now it's the other way around, the fans "gives" and SMAP "receives" and he apologized for that... I feel like saying "Nooo... pleasssee, you don't have to apologize, Kimura-kuuun... it is our duty to make SMAP happy now since you guys have always made us happy!" T_T
I really don't know just how much we can believe everything the news articles wrote but the impression I got from Takuya's words, he's the one who is the most straight-forward and persistent to NOT end SMAP. He mentioned "all five and five of us" (5nin 5sama) twice. And he also indirectly expressed his opposition toward the jimusho, IMHO. "Many people say "That's not the press conference we'd like to see!" However we did feel that we wanted to show all the fans and all the people our current condition in the midst of our struggle." Maybe its just me but it feels like he was trying to say that by doing the live apology, they wanted the whole world to see just how rotten the jimusho is. I'm sorry but after I read what Takuya said.... I cannot place a single believe anymore in the 4:1 split BS. He's in this together with them, period.
Meanwhile, Nakai's words is the exact opposite of Takuya. His mind is like a locked drawer. His words sounded cold compared to the others. And he was trying to say something in a roundabout way and I'm still not sure if I get what he meant correctly. I treat his words like a bulk of secret codes and hints, lol. But since we saw how he cried in the 5nin tabi episode, we might also take this as a sign that Nakai is taking this the hardest among the others. That compared to the other members, SMAP really means the world to him, and I think this is why he didn't want to talk about it so straight forwardly. And I even take his "recent happening" little episode as a secret code, lol. Mystery books? Hmm... :D
All youngest three mentioned just how lucky they were to have jobs they could focus on during the commotion or in Goro's case he had the chance to meet the fans directly and it gave him power. I just realized then that it must be very hard for Takuya that his movie filming was just over when the uproar happened. He didn't have anything to focus on and he basically had to deal with the case everyday these several months. (unless my theory that he currently has a secret movie filming is true)
Tsuyoshi is very honest to say "We still can't see a detailed way for us to return the fans' feelings," and "By moving forward, we will be able to achieve a result." It hints that maybe even albums and concerts are still undecided... and from what he said, I got the impression that it is very hard for them to move freely now... it's like they keep going without knowing if it will result on something, the most important thing is they don't stop trying, I think he might have described their current situation quite well.
Their playlist choices are interesting too.
As always, Takuya's choices are straight-forward, while Nakai really chose not-the-obvious... and most of them are quite the old songs 1996-1998... I'm not sure how to interpret this, but his mind seems to focus heavily around those years. I'm really amused to see LOHAS picked 'freebird'... as far as I know twitter's hashtag #smapfreebird was made and only used by us, foreign fans... coincidence? XD Its interesting that Tsuyoshi doesn't include SekaiHana in his playlist but he includes Sekai's coupling song :D And Shingo chose BEST FRIEND, aww.... but actually not only Shingo picked Mori/6Smap-related songs. Nakai picked $10 which I think the recorded song has mostly Mori's voice in it, Takuya picked Donna Ii Koto, and Tsuyoshi picked Kimi to Boku no Rokkagetsu, a very 6smap song. And omg! Goro picked "5-gatsu no Kaze wo Dakishimete"! That's Tsuyoshi's solo song from SMAP 004 which was made into a music video featuring all six members for a certain corner in Ai Love Smap! That is a very Mori/6smap-related song! The music video was made quite a running joke in Ai Love Smap for several episodes, they mentioned about the video once every while, saying how stupid and bad the video was but they always laughed at it happily. I can't believe Goro still remember that song T_T

XD Its interesting that Tsuyoshi doesn't include SekaiHana in his playlist but he includes Sekai's coupling song :D And Shingo chose BEST FRIEND, aww.... but actually not only Shingo picked Mori/6Smap-related songs. Nakai picked $10 which I think the recorded song has mostly Mori's voice in it, Takuya picked Donna Ii Koto, and Tsuyoshi picked Kimi to Boku no Rokkagetsu, a very 6smap song. And omg! Goro picked "5-gatsu no Kaze wo Dakishimete"! That's Tsuyoshi's solo song from SMAP 004 which was made into a music video featuring all six members for a certain corner in Ai Love Smap! That is a very Mori/6smap-related song! The music video was made quite a running joke in Ai Love Smap for several episodes, they mentioned about the video once every while, saying how stupid and bad the video was but they always laughed at it happily. I can't believe Goro still remember that song T_T
