All those DBZ movies I saw on VHS tapes in my childhood, this is first time ever I saw a Dragon Ball movie in the movie theater! Kandou shitaaaa~ T_T I feel so moved seeing it on the big screen, esp. when Chala Head Chala started playing though only for a short while.
I LOVE IT! Though it lacks my OTP VegeBul moments, but there were so many Goku/Vegeta moments, my 2nd OTP lol, I have no complains! I loved "Battle of Gods" but I definitely love "Resurrection F" even more. I gotta say though, for some audience who has not followed the latest DB/Toriyama Akira universe, might be confused with the appearance of some unfamiliar characters. Whis and Beerus appeared in "Gods" so some people must be familiar with them, but Jaco? I think there's very little number of fans who know who he is and probably didn't get the jokes. "Jaco, the Galactic Patrolman" was the latest manga series created by Toriyama and the series ended last year, I think. I was following the manga summary since I found out there were hints of connection with DB universe, and by the end of series, it was revealed that the heroine of the manga, Tights, is actually Bulma's big sister, and the timeline was before Dragon Ball, so it was like a prequel to DB universe. So some audience might be confused on why Jaco and Bulma seems to be like long time friends, though Jaco has never appeared before in the DB universe.
Anyway, I really love the fact that both Goku and Vegeta are under Whis' training. It has been a long time, since any of the DB characters is under training... I think it was since Piccolo/Gohan? Before that, there were Goku/Krillin under Kamesennin and Goku under Kaio-sama. I love how Whis pointed out Goku and Vegeta's weak points and even mentioned how Vegeta is always a step behind than Goku and they discussed the matter. And of course Goku and Vegeta's quarrels when Goku was fighting Freeza, and just like a kid, Vegeta scold Goku for not letting him take his turn in fighting Freeza, lol... they looked like Goten and Trunks for a moment there... haha I was with Bulma when she saw them fighting each other in front of Freeza and had the "WTF" look on her face lol, I would've made the same face.
Though zero VegeBul moments, but Bulma is stil Bulma, the lady with no fear and she could scold Freeza whenever she wants to, I dunno if she has courage or just pure stupid bitch hahaa... But that's what I love from Bulma. No matter what, she always play some kind of 'saviour goddess' role in all DB plots (well, except the Majin Buu saga).
The animation was great and I love some of the sound effects during Goku vs Freeza fight, something I've never heard in the 90s DBZ movies.
I like the twist at the end and I thought for a moment, heyy they rarely give Vegeta spotlight like this! Thank you, thank you to the writers, haha I guess they have realized Vegeta has a larger fanbase than Goku lol.
I wonder why they made Gohan so much like ojisan now? lol, he's only 20 year old I believe XD
Piccolo as Pan's babysitter was the sweetest moment in the movie mhahahaaa.... Piccolo is the appointed babysitter of Saiyan babies lol!
Too bad no appearance of Chichi, Goten, Trunks, but I don't mind... they can't give all the DBZ characters screen time in one movie, anyway.
I have grown to love Beerus and Whis characters now, they're fun addition to the universe. The fact that their power is far beyond Goku and Vegeta's reach kinda reminds the audience that Goku and Vegeta aren't immortal.
I can't wait to rewatch some of my favorite moments on DVD! Esp. Goku and Vegeta's bickerings haha... now they're under training of the same master, I love that Goku and Vegeta started acting like buddies.
Beerus and Whis have been saying that Goku and Vegeta complements each other's weakness and that they will become unbeatable if they join power and fight the enemy together, since "Gods" and now in this movie too. I wonder if there will be a situation in Dragon Ball Super that will force them to work together? Maybe if their family and friends become hostages, they will have no choice but to fight the enemy together. But then again, they have actually had a fusion before, and Vegetto was quite unbeatable alright, so it shouldn't be something new.
Final verdict, Resurrection F is one of the best DBZ movies, absolutely... well, still below the first "Broly" movie if I have to rank, but almost there! Broly is still my #1 favorite DB villan^^
