Star Wars Ep. III Thought

May 26, 2005 11:12

I know, I know. When did people ever say that Lucas had a "way with words"? Never, that's when. I was thinking about this and it sort of plagues me, only mildly tho.

Comment about a part of the movie that is a spoiler! )

O.K., here's what's going on. Padme is dying because she sees that there is no future for her and Anakin. Although there's some good in him, he'll never be the guy he once was and they will never have the kind of relationship the once had (which, I can say, I really relate to), so what's the use in living. Aparently, motherhood isn't enough insentive. So to sum up: she's lost all hope of having any kind of life with Anakin and even though he's still got a spec of good in him, it won't pull him back to his old happy self. What can I say? She's a princess (or queen??) after all.
As you can tell, we went to see the movie today and all of this was as plain as day to me. All in all, it was a pretty good movie (at least better than the other two) although I could see what was coming in the last half hour of the movie. Pretty good at tying up the loose ends and leading up to the Episode IV (which as we all know, takes place many years later). I really liked the Wookies.

Oh I understood what was going on... how Padme was too heartless enough to want to live for her kids. What I was pointing out was that Lucas can't "write" good drama or lines to save his life. I mean, he could have had her die because of Vader, that would have been good, but no, she just "lost the will to live." It's as if he wanted her to die because of something other than Vader so that he could come back and say in the end, "See, Vader wasn't all bad. He REALLY didn't kill Padme." Doesn't really matter. His actions caused her death, so he did kill her even if his hand doesn't have blood on it. The movies are rife with plot holes because Lucas doesn't think things through, than feels he has to "fix" things by going back and redoing his first three movies to say, no no, THIS is the way I really meant it. Right. I beleive that one ( ... )

And furthermore, when Padme told old Obie Wan (or young Obie Wan at this stage of the episodes) that there was still some good in Anakin, he should have replied, "I don't know about that, I carved up some pretty substantial pieces out of him myself. Maybe I cut the good one out ( ... )

Lucas started with Jar Jar, and I was like, "Okay, comic relief, I can buy that" but then when the mediclorians entered the scene, I just threw my hands up. And the've stayed there since then. I really don't know what he was thinking.

The part I like the most was how Obi-wan would go on and on and ON about how Anikin was supposed to bring balance to the force. He was the chosen one or whatever, and then didn't understand when he went evil. Did he, nor the rest of the Jedi council, realized that the force was unbalanced, but it was that there were too many Jedi? I mean after the massacre, there was a lot more of a balance, two and two (Vader and Sidious and Obi-wan and Yoda), tho technically Luke and Leia are both "jedi" but just not yet. Seems like he WAS the one who would bring balance to the force, just not the way Jedi wanted.

And while I'm on a roll here, just who is designing these maternity clothes for Padmae? She didn't look really pregnant to me and she's not that much taller than either of us (she's only 5'3"). I always looked like I was carrying around two watermelons. The woman is about to give birth and she's running around the galaxy in a skimpy little tunic top and skin tight pants ( ... )

We went to see the movie again a second time cause some of our friends hadn't seen it, and when we got to that part where Anikin finds out that Padme's pregnant, he leans over and says, "Ebert was right, he does look like a high school kid who just found out that his girlfriend is pregnant." Tee hee ( ... )

I totally agree. The “I’m pregnant” scene was choice. Like I said before, he really looks like an 18 year old male (although after that scene, I’m sort of revising the age downward to 15 or 16). The same goes for the scene in the second movie when he gets back from retrieving his mom and he’s having a conversation with Padme about how he couldn’t save her and how Obi-Wan is jealous and holding him back. When he starts throwing things across the room, was he having a little tantrum or what? (revising the age downward again to about 8 or 9 ( ... )
