I know, I know. When did people ever say that Lucas had a "way with words"? Never, that's when. I was thinking about this and it sort of plagues me, only mildly tho.
And furthermore, when Padme told old Obie Wan (or young Obie Wan at this stage of the episodes) that there was still some good in Anakin, he should have replied, "I don't know about that, I carved up some pretty substantial pieces out of him myself. Maybe I cut the good one out." Earlier on I felt that they were both (Padme and Anakin) acting pretty juvenile and didn't seem to be too much concerned with their soon to arrive on the scene offspring. You have to admit that the offspring in this case were outstanding and really did manage to save the universe even though their mother didn't have the will to live to nurture than and that being brought up by strangers worked out really well (you'll recall that Uncle Owen and Aunt Veru were not blood relatives). I mean, really, what was it with this mother thing as well; come on, virgin birth, no less. Was he supposed to be the Galactic Messiah or something and then Lucas changed his mind? So what was the boy going to do? Turn to the dark side so that he can save his wife and thereby have a replacement for his mother? Didn't quite work out like he'd planned, did it? It's all too bizarre not to mention pretty lame. I could write better stuff than this which is the point I think you're trying to make.
Lucas started with Jar Jar, and I was like, "Okay, comic relief, I can buy that" but then when the mediclorians entered the scene, I just threw my hands up. And the've stayed there since then. I really don't know what he was thinking.
The part I like the most was how Obi-wan would go on and on and ON about how Anikin was supposed to bring balance to the force. He was the chosen one or whatever, and then didn't understand when he went evil. Did he, nor the rest of the Jedi council, realized that the force was unbalanced, but it was that there were too many Jedi? I mean after the massacre, there was a lot more of a balance, two and two (Vader and Sidious and Obi-wan and Yoda), tho technically Luke and Leia are both "jedi" but just not yet. Seems like he WAS the one who would bring balance to the force, just not the way Jedi wanted.
Needless to say, I was not even amused by Jar Jar, but when they started going on about the mediclorians, that was a bit much. I could live with the force being part of everything (sort of a Disney "circle of life" kind of thing), but little parasites in my blood directing the force is just a wee bit over the edge. And when the Emperor (Darth Sidious) starts to wave the "you can learn how to control the mediclorians and keep someone from dying" and "I'll be more than happy to teach you how" stuff under Anakin's nose, I just about lost it. He's supposed to be a Jedi (almost), but so help me, he comes across as being male and 18 years old (and boy! does he have issues). Furthermore, he's a whiner. It starts to grate after a while. No wonder his mom let him go off to become a Jedi; it got him out of her hair.
I must agree with you about all of this bringing the force into balance (they must have just not seen this coming, huh?). By the time Obie Wan and Yoda kick off, we now have Luke and Leia to take their places. Of course, the force gets unbalanced again when The Emperor and Darth Vader die in Episode VI with Luke and Leia left standing, but I guess we all wanted a happy ending, right? Maybe we'll be seeing Episodes VII, VIII and IX and things will get balanced again. What do you think?
Hmm, I don't know. Lucas has said that he will not make a 7-9, but then again, once he get's done re-writing 4-6 to fit his vision of 1-3, and repackaging all 6 in their various different boxed forms (and there will be many, you know it), and the money from marketing starts to run a bit dry, I would not be surprised if he "changes his mind" and writes three more.
