AT&T's proposed 150GB/mo bandwidth cap is about 100GB/mo too small, as far as I'm concerned. My thinking has no basis in fact, but I do know I wouldn't feel good about having basically 5GB/day of limit to be aware of. Two things:

1. I hate how slow linear flash is. Trouble is, on the 7500, ATA flash isn't much faster.
2. Thanks to 1. above, I got zapped by the exec-timeout upgrading an image. It just cut my session off in the middle of the transfer. So naturally I had to squeeze slot0: again to reclaim the space.

I was thinking of getting an SSG-5 for a personal firewall, but haven't had much luck finding one for under $700. There's the Cisco ASA5505 for $520. It sucks to have user limits on it when the Juniper doesn't, but in the 50-user version, it has equivalent features for less ( Read more... )

One very important tip to those of you working on NetScreens and using mapped IPs:

If you ever RE-USE those IPs as regular ones, make sure they're unmapped or you'll waste lots of time playing "where the fuck are my packets". I spent far too long troubleshooting the problem that turned out to be an IP that was mapped to nowhere. :oP

I didn't know this, but with 0.60 of PuTTY, serial access is supported! A GTK interface is also supported in the Unix version. Both features are in the copy of PuTTY 0.59 in the latest Ubuntu repository ( Read more... )

I finally got the Linksys I bought to actually work as a bridge! I'm sending these packets through it right now.

I put X-WRT on it (a WRTSL54GS with 32MB RAM and 8MB flash) and it works fine. Had the firmware been any more involved than simply reflashing the device, I wouldn't have even bothered with it ( Read more... )
