Yay for Yuletide assignments! I got one of the two fandoms I figured I'd get and think I already have a rough idea of what to do. As for you, oh Yuletide Santa, if you are reading this: Thanks for writing me a story! I will be delighted no matter what. But let me elaborate on my signup anyway --
RequestFandom1: Fringe
RequestFandomChar1: Any
RequestDetail1: I would love some angsty, slow-burn Peter/Olivia UST, with cold climates and hotel rooms and jazz on the radio as they drive to some town in the back of nowhere. I could, in turn, love some Astrid-Walter bonding, or even Astrid/Walter if you are willing to go there. Barring this, third choice, please have Gene the Cow evolve intelligence.
As you can see, I am pretty happy with most things Fringey. I don't know that I'm up for Astrid/Walter porn, exactly, but follow your muse.
RequestFandom2: Sherri Smith - Flygirl
RequestFandomChar2: Any
RequestDetail2: I'd so love to find out what happens after Ida Mae sends Walt that letter. I am romantic enough to believe that he continues to love her and want to be with her, but I am realistic to know that they would have hard choices ahead. Ideally I would cherish something period-true and atmospheric, fully exploring their options from here -- does Ida Mae continue to pass so they can be together? Do they travel north where they could wed legally and deal with the repercussions of being an interracial couple? If they can't end up together, even a sultry New Orleans weekend would be delicious.
I am very about the Ida Mae/Walt for this request, but if you would prefer to concentrate on the friendships Ida Mae has with her other fliers, their reactions to Ida Mae's revelation would also be welcome.
RequestFandom3: Anthony Hope - Zenda series
RequestFandomChar3: Flavia
RequestDetail3: Basically, I refuse to accept RUPERT OF HENTZAU as canon. I so, so want Flavia and Rudolf Rassendyll to find some way to be together -- and yet for honor to be preserved. But it should still be tragic and huge and over the top. Schemes, secret passageways, ballgowns, fencing and coded love letters all highly desired. FYI, for visuals, I prefer the Stewart Granger/Deborah Kerr/James Mason film version.
No, I haven't read the books. Does it show? I'm sorry if you are a purist for the book series!
RequestFandom4: Guiding Light
RequestFandomChar4: Maureen Bauer
RequestDetail4: For almost twenty years, I have longed for Maureen Bauer/Roger Thorpe fic. I know it's wrong. I just don't care. If you could do this (ideally set in an AU where Maureen does not die but walks away from cheating Ed without looking back), I would be SO thrilled.
This is the fic of my heart, the one I long for insanely. I'd love to get the input/reactions of as many late '80s/early '90s characters as possible to the reality of Maureen/Roger, but the core of it, for me, is whether Maureen and Roger can separate their affection for one another from their deep need to get back at Ed. I'd guess that Maureen would have a hard time knowing that, and Roger would have a hard time understanding why he should care. I don't want a Roger whitewash on this.
So I have been silent for another week and a half! It's not that I am not reading LJ, but my life has entered a very quiet zone. Get up, eat, write, bed. I like it, but it's less postworthy.
TV reactions, nonspoilery: I am watching and loving "Bones," "Vampire Diaries," "Fringe" and "30 Rock." I am watching and mostly on board with, despite reservations, "Ugly Betty" and "Glee." I am watching, with increasing indifference, "V." I haven't seen the "Mad Men" finale yet and she who spoils me will suffer.
Other info: I have found Emilio's Tapas, Chicago people. Life is good.
