Hold my Hand
[Suzuka Ohgo x Kenta Suga] Friendship
Inspired by The Origin Story: "They could tell you how rare this is. But they could tell you how rare friendship always is."

"Suzuka, you're not supposed to be drunk, or even drink alcohol at all." Suga Kenta sat across a very wasted Ohgo Suzuka. Her hair was undone and her blouse was crumpled. He pushed away the glass she was offering. "You're a minor. And so am I."

She giggled, high pitched and with no humor. "Well I wasn't supposed to fall in love with him either."

He sighed. So it's because of him. Again. "Yes, you weren't." He agreed apathetically. He loved Suzuka, really, but her choice of love interest is really dangerous. "Did he do anything bad?"

"He broke up with me." She scoffed. "Is that considered bad or is he just an asshole?"

He stared wide eyed at her. They broke up? After all they've gone through? Sure, it was dangerous, but they always pulled through before. He frowned and replied frankly "You don't mean that." Out of all the boys she knew, Yuto was the least of an asshole. He was kind and sweet and loving. "Did he give you a reason?" Surely, there was a reason.

Suzuka laid her forehead on the table and spoke. "Of course he did. It doesn't change anything."

"I know." He did know. No matter the reason, she was still hurt. Nothing could change that. He stood up, moved to her side and pulled her into a hug. "Fine, I'll let you drink today. Just today."

When he let go, she looked at him with large eyes. "Why can't we just fall in love with each other?"

He laughed. He found it funny how random that was, and how unlikely. "Because that would be like incest, Suzu'nee-chan."

"But Ken-chan, if we fall in love with each other, I'm sure we won't get hurt." Suzuka countered seriously. She was just like a child wanting to prove her point.

"Love always hurts." He replied, eyes shining with wisdom not usually seen in boys his age. "And we can't dictate love."

"That sucks." She pouted. "If this was a TV drama, after comforting me, I would see you in a different light and you'd tell me you have always loved me and I would somehow love you too."

He listened to her ramble, getting more and more amused at this drunk Suzuka. She was his big sister, one with great advice and amazing maturity. But this drunk Suzuka was random, said weird things, and was the one who needed advice and help. "But this isn't a TV Drama. This is life. And life usually sucks."

"Are you in love with someone, Ken-chan?" She finishes another glass of beer, lays it on the table and refills it.

He raised an eyebrow, surprised at the random question. "Yes." He answered truthfully.

"Is it me?" She grinned.

He laughed again. "No. I told you, I'm not a fan of incest."

"I love Ken-chan though." She giggled, obviously getting more drunk. "You're always here for me."

"And you're always there for me." He smiled. "But really, we can't force that type of romantic love. We're the coolest best friends in town anyway."

She smiled a mischievous smile. "Ryuu said that, didn't he? He has the lamest descriptions ever." She giggled before smiling a tender smile. "But yes, I guess I understand. I'm glad I have the two of you."

"What we have is enough, right? No complexities." He took a sip from his juice. "It's better this way. We don't hurt each other."

"I don't want to be hurt anymore." She grumbles, sad and just really, really tired. "Ken-chan, I don't want this."

He sighs. "Suzuka, you were happy. You will be happy." He took her hand into his. "We're always here."

This time, she pulled him into a hug. A tight hug, a hug that told him how much she needed him right now. "Thank you." She cried on his shoulder. "Thank you."

He kept quiet, placing a strong hand on her back. He felt her grip tighten, until she was already sleeping in his arms, breath steady and cheeks stained with dried tears.

Kenta gently leaned her head on his shoulders, painstakingly trying not to move to much as he took his cellphone from his pocket. He dialed a number from his memory (seriously, if he's your best friend, you'll memorize it too because he will bug you until you remember every single digit). "Hello?"

It takes a second before the other person on the line spoke. "Ken-chan, is Suzuka alright?" He sounded worried, and dispirited unlike his usual self.

"She's asleep now." Kenta replied, trying to assure the older boy. "She asked me why we weren't in love with each other. Suzu'nee-chan actually asked that!" He laughed.

"Oh." Kamiki probably understood the situation just from that. "I should go there. I'll borrow dad's car."

"Thanks. We need a ride to Suzuka's place."

They arrived in her house at the middle of the night. Kamiki called Suzuka's parents so they were able to go inside without any trouble. Her mother said she'll take care of Suzuka but Kamiki smiled and said he and Kenta would handle Suzuka.

Kenta knew their friendship was special and this was one of the biggest proof. Suzuka's mother laughed softly and patted them on their heads, telling them to take care of her daughter properly. Kenta knew other mothers would be more worried, but they've been together for so long that even their parents accept that they're practically siblings.

The two went over to Suzuka's room, keeping the door open just in case. Kamiki put Suzuka down the bed as Kenta went to the kitchen to get water and to raid the medicine cabinet for something that could help.

"She's just sleeping. I'm sure she's not as drunk as we think." Kamiki said as he settled on the couch, looking at Suzuka sleep peacefully on the bed. "What should we do?"

"Tell me everything?" Kenta asked, sitting beside him. "I have no idea what the reason is. It bothers me, and it would help me decide whether I'll beat Nakajima-senpai up or not."

Kamiki chuckled, finding it funny that the youngest of them three is the one who actually wanted to fight for them. "I'll help you beat up Yuto if he did something stupid to Suzuka, but it's not his fault."

"He's your friend. Why should I believe you?" Kenta narrowed his eyes.

"Are you asking me this question?" Kamiki raised an eyebrow before shrugging. "Yuto would just hurt Suzuka more if they stayed together. And it would be dangerous for her career."

Kenta sighed. "I knew it was like that."

"Still want to beat him up?" Kamiki asked, laughter in his voice.

"I'll never beat up anyone you think is good. And you think everyone is good." Kenta sighed again. God, he just feels like the oldest out of them three. "Suzuka's fine now, at least. We just have to stay with her all day tomorrow."

"I brought her favorite DVDs. You should buy ice cream tomorrow."

"Yeah. Of course I would." Kenta nodded, noting it in his head. "You should drive us around tomorrow too. And let her drive. She would want that."

Kamiki groaned. "My dad would hate that, but sure."

"Anything for Suzu-hime, right?" Kenta grinned, reciting from memory. They used to say Suzuka was the princess with him and Kamiki as her princes. They still act like that until now. They'll do anything for her.

"Anything." Kamiki smiled because it was true. Because no matter what, they'll never leave Suzuka. They might not be able to stop her from crying, but they sure will always be there to wipe her tears.

The next morning, Suzuka wakes up on her bed with a nasty headache. She sits up, memory blurry. As soon as she stands up, she sees a boy sleeping on her couch. Kamiki Ryunosuke. She laughs, hearing his light snoring.

She hold on to the desk, still feeling dizzy. "Ugh..." She groans, deciding to just sit down on her bed again.

The door opens, revealing Kenta holding a tray of what seems to be breakfast. He strides over to her bed, places the tray down and offers her a pill. "Breakfast in bed! And this helps the hangover, so drink it and lie down, okay?"

She laughs, which made her head hurt, but she didn't care anyway because she was happy. Not completely happy, still heartbroken, but she feels lucky. And that's enough for now. "You're the best, Ken-chan."

"This is what friends are for" He replies with a smile.

Suzuka sighs and drinks the medicine. She drinks the coffee and smiles.

She had them: Kenta and Ryu. Best friends who would lend her their ears, and their shoulders, and their hands, and their hearts, and whatever they have that she wanted. Best friends who would hug her, and never let go until she tell them to. Best friends who would listen. Who would laugh and cry with her. Who would fight for her. Best friends who would stay. Best friends who loved her.

And that thought was enough to reassure her that she would be alright.
