Gil Scott-Heron RIP

Just wanted to say feeling so sad about Gil Scott-Heron's death. I saw him, eventually, for the first and sadly now, last time at Brixton Acadamy last December. He was as wonderful as I'd always known he would be. I first got in to him when I heard "Johannesburg" in the early 70's. Started me on many years of activism when I found out what it was about and proceeded to spend time at the on-going vigil outside the South African embassy in Trafalgar Square. He was so much more than his activism or the "Godfather of Rap" label he acquired (and rejected). Wonderful smokey-blues voice coupled with intelligent, funny, heartbreaking, truthful lyrics wrapped in a beautiful combination of Soul, Blues and Jazz.
I wish I had the computing-fu to be able to up-load some tracks to share, but menopause-brain seems to have eaten any knowledge I might once have had in how to do that, (if anyone want's to enlighten me I'd love to share the joy that was GSH).
Check him out if you can, his last album "I'm new here" was my album of 2010 and he has an extensive back catalogue. He was important to music and to the world for many reasons. A great artist and a great man.
