Training Day

May 06, 2006 11:45

The Vision was the only one who had been in this room before. Granted, most of the others had been locked in the old Avenger’s training room, but this one was…neater. Cleaner. Not filled with broken stuff ( Read more... )

Billy let out a yelp as Teddy grabbed him, and the broken light sparked in a very worrying way. Aformentioned sparks lept from the light to something that Billy suspected was very expensive, though he had absolutely no clue what it was actually for. But now it was smoking in a very ominous fashion before the sparking lept from it, back to him, causing all his hair to stand on end... and on to Teddy.

"Ohcrap."

"Right." Teddy said. "No grabbing the boyfriend around electrical currents. Got it."

Not that he was actually putting Billy back down or anything.

"Someone had better take a picture of this." he said, poking Billy's hair with interest. It fizzled at him.

"Wool socks on a shag carpet in a thunderstorm." Teddy said, satisfied.

"Nobody needs a picture of this." Billy said. He wasn't protesting about wanting to be put down yet. "And you're hair's not in much better shape right now. I really, really have got to stop zapping things."

Tommy peeked around the corner from his hiding place upon hearing Teddy's comment about the picture. Billy was....Billy was doing his best impression of the Bride of Frankenstein apparently. Teddy was right. Someone needed to take a picture of that...if only for blackmail's sake later on.

He glanced at the door measuring the distance between it, him, and Captain America. He could make this. Heck, he could phase through the door if he needed to. He could...

He felt a large hand clamp down on his shoulder. Eep.

Captain America was really trying not to give into his urge to whallop the whole team alongside the head - possibly using the speedster in his grip as the blunt object. He forced himself to hold still and took a deep, calming breath.

It completely failed to calm, as it caused him to inhale a lungful of the sawdust still floating around in the air. He released Tommy, coughing and trying not to swear.

The whole lot of them were going to be in so much trouble once he got his breath back.

Tommy saw an opportunity to escape an authority figure and surprise surprise, he took it. Zipping away from Cap, he hid behind Vision.

Kate caught sight of Tommy hiding and Captain America looking seriously annoyed, but they were of minimal consequence and were shunted to the back of her mind so she could continue focusing on not letting Jubilee win without earning it. The lack of familiarity combined with actual skill was making it a challenge, while the fact that they weren't trying to kill each other let it be fun.

Official training was becoming a better idea by the second if it meant more fights like this one, where she could learn completely new tricks.

The Vision had been contemplating grabbing Eli and joining Kate and Jubilee in sparring when Tommy snagged him as a synthetic-humanoid shield.

"[This is supposed to help you how, precisely?]" he queried, looking over his shoulder at the speedster. Captain America stopped coughing and started coming after Tommy. The Vision backed away, phasing through Tommy and then pulling the speedster along by the back of his shirt.

Teddy caught Tommy's sleeve and pulled him away from the Vision.

"New game, guys!" he called. "Keep Tommy away from Cap!"

Teddy was probably going to regret starting the "new game" as soon as Cap got his hands on him. But Teddy was feeling a bit giddy - they were all perfectly safe here, it was all fun, very little-to-no risk involved.

Also: first date with Billy Kaplan. Yes!

The Vision seemed into it, at least. Or possibly he was just drifting over to see how Cassie was doing. It looked as if she had given herself a case of the hiccups from laughing too hard.

"What am I? A beach ball?" Tommy muttered upon hearing the name of the new game. He then saw Captain America heading towards them.

"Beach Ball it is." He said as he sandwiched himself between Billy and Teddy.

Cassie had just recovered from her fit. Sadly, she had not recovered in time to prevent herself from rolling onto the dusty floor and she stood up covered in saw-dust. She didn't seem to mind it because she was still giggling. "Come on, Cap. You wanted to know what we could do."

That Kate has quick reflexes. Jubilee thought as she soar over her partner who had executed a quick-thinking rolling dive beneath her. Jubilee grounded herself, remembering many a training session with Logan. "Remember, kid, the two most important thing about combat, is ingenuity and speed. Hit 'em fast, hard, and unexpectedly." Jubilee's momentary daydream had cost her as Kate had recouped and began her attack ( ... )

"Keep away it is," Billy said, power swirling around his hands and building up a wall between Captain America and the three teenagers. He was going to be in so much trouble for this, but he was still grinning. This was great.

Okay, so the kids wanted to play?

Playing it was, then. Captain America was pretty good at this game.

Captain America eyed the rippling blue wall of power between himself and the three younger boys. Kate was still sparring with Jubilee, putting them both out of his way, but the Vision and Cassie seemed to be preparing to tag-team him. Eli was watching them all, a speculative look on his face.

Reaching a decision, Cap made his move.

Cocky gets people killed, Bishop, Kate thought as she got back to her feet. She took a moment to catch her breath before charging in again, determined to take away whatever advantage Jubilee seemed to think distance would give her.

As soon as she was within range Kate launched into a new series of attacks, punching and feinting and kicking and blocking and dodging as quickly and efficiently as she could manage. More hits were landing than she was comfortable with, though, and if things didn't start going her way again soon she was going to have to try a proper takedown if she wanted a chance at winning.

Ooh, I'll have to ask her to show me that block again later.

Tommy didn't like this. Cap was eyeing them all...speculatively. That couldn't be good. No matter that Billy had a wall between them or that Cassie and Viz seemed to be preparing to tag team or that Eli was just standing there.

It was Captain freakin America. Tommy tensed up to run far far away from anything. Be it a move from Cap or one of his own frie...teammates. He didn't trust a damn thing in the situation now.
