Training Day

May 06, 2006 11:45

The Vision was the only one who had been in this room before. Granted, most of the others had been locked in the old Avenger’s training room, but this one was…neater. Cleaner. Not filled with broken stuff ( Read more... )

That Kate has quick reflexes. Jubilee thought as she soar over her partner who had executed a quick-thinking rolling dive beneath her. Jubilee grounded herself, remembering many a training session with Logan. "Remember, kid, the two most important thing about combat, is ingenuity and speed. Hit 'em fast, hard, and unexpectedly." Jubilee's momentary daydream had cost her as Kate had recouped and began her attack.

Jubilee deflected a left hook followed by a right jab. Two more of Kate's lightning fast blows left Jubilee momentarily dazed. She regained focus as Kate started her next round of blows. Jubilee saw her opening, Kate's immediate success had given her some undue confidence, charging so that her lower body was unprotected. Jubilee dropped to the floor and swiped the ground in a low arching kick that knocked Kate off her feet.

"I need distance." Jubilee almost instinctively leaped from her crouched position and executed two back handsprings giving her breathing room from her partner, "Hm... I guess all that gymnastics training for the Olympics does come in useful..." She thought to herself. Yet, her momentary realization was tainted by another sudden pop-culture image in her mind, "God. I'm so the yellow ranger."

"Keep away it is," Billy said, power swirling around his hands and building up a wall between Captain America and the three teenagers. He was going to be in so much trouble for this, but he was still grinning. This was great.

Okay, so the kids wanted to play?

Playing it was, then. Captain America was pretty good at this game.

Captain America eyed the rippling blue wall of power between himself and the three younger boys. Kate was still sparring with Jubilee, putting them both out of his way, but the Vision and Cassie seemed to be preparing to tag-team him. Eli was watching them all, a speculative look on his face.

Reaching a decision, Cap made his move.

Cocky gets people killed, Bishop, Kate thought as she got back to her feet. She took a moment to catch her breath before charging in again, determined to take away whatever advantage Jubilee seemed to think distance would give her.

As soon as she was within range Kate launched into a new series of attacks, punching and feinting and kicking and blocking and dodging as quickly and efficiently as she could manage. More hits were landing than she was comfortable with, though, and if things didn't start going her way again soon she was going to have to try a proper takedown if she wanted a chance at winning.

Ooh, I'll have to ask her to show me that block again later.

Tommy didn't like this. Cap was eyeing them all...speculatively. That couldn't be good. No matter that Billy had a wall between them or that Cassie and Viz seemed to be preparing to tag team or that Eli was just standing there.

It was Captain freakin America. Tommy tensed up to run far far away from anything. Be it a move from Cap or one of his own frie...teammates. He didn't trust a damn thing in the situation now.

"He's gonna flatten us, isn't he." Billy said, more to himself than to Tommy or Teddy. He tensed, waiting. Watching. He was going to make a move soon, and they would be so doomed.

But he was grinning anyway.

Clint walked around the corner and paused. He wanted to keep the element of surprise in his favor and aimed an arrow right by the side of Steve's ear. He eased it back and let go carefully. He leaned against the side of the wall where could stay hidden and waited for a reaction.

"I'll laugh if he manages to catch it" He thought to himself.

Kate was sparring with Jubilee, and anyway, she hadn't brought her bow and arrow with her. So who had fired the arrow?

"[Cap!]" the Vision called out in warning. The super soldier looked up and dodged the projectile. It hit Billy's shield and clattered to the floor.

Captain America looked back towards the doorway.

"All right. Who's come to join us?" he demanded.

He stayed around the corner and started to laugh. It was funny to mess with cap, or at least he thought it was.

"Now, is that anyway to talk to one of your best friends?"

He walked into full view and had a smirk on his face.

"How are you old man?"

"Holy mother of mercy..." Billy said, his voice half squeak and half reverential whisper. "Oh wow. Oh wow!"

First, he finally managed to get an actual date with Teddy, now Hawkeye was there? Could this day possibly get any better?

Clint laughed and sort of rolled his eyes.

"Why am i not surprised that the kids don't remember already metting me? It was kind of chaotic that night."

He remembered talking to cassie, as well as getting into an argument with a few of the others, and the girl with the bow was injured. He just didn't know if they remembered.

Caassie grinned. "I remembered seeing you." Despite being a bit dazed from bumping her head. She ran up and hugged him. "I bet you've made Billy and Teddy's day."
