Werid Science (tag in, o captured ones!)

Florecent lights buzzed gently in the gunmetal grey corridor as Dr. Vanessa Sinesis walked down it, looking in on her newest specimines. A small smile tugged at her cupid bow lips, which she caught in the wall's reflection. The smile widened a bit as she regarded her still smooth and pale skin, and her carefully styled red hair. She smoothed a ( Read more... )

Tommy could feel his heart sink as he watched the field flicker out. Well…that was a new tactic. His hands went to the collar again as he silently berated himself; this was different than before, being a smartass might earn him more than a black eye. Which didn't mean he was stopping ( ... )

Zack looked around at the situation. The dark-haired hottie was doing some kind of sign language, the asshole was creating a suitable distraction, but it seemed like he was starting to crack under the pressure. Meanwhile, Zack himself kept plotting. He knew that if he waited much longer, his window of opportunity would evaporate.

"Okay, if I go steel, I'll be fine. I'll spring your friends and we'll make a break for it. I know it's a little kamikaze, but..." Zack paused and inhaled a deep, resolute breath. "I'll make it."

'And if not, Drew, you better have a guitar waiting for me up there.'

OOC: Rubert's gonna be offline for a while, and has given permission for his character to be used by your friendly neighborhood ST. Just so you know.

"What? Can't put your money where your mouth is?" Dr. Sinesis asked, her voice sweet as poisoned honey. She stepped forward, her arms resting easily at her side. "Can't take one little woman without your powers, boy?"

She stepped into the cell, ignoring Teddy.

This was a mistake.

Unlike Tommy, Teddy knew how to fight without powers, even if he was still feeling rather disoriented. And he had figured out what Kate meant. He dove for the red haired woman, grabbing both her wrists in his hands and squeezing as hard as he could. He was gratified to her something that sounded very mechanical break.

Vanessa frowned at him. "Stupid child," she chided, bringing both her legs up between them and shoving them into Teddy's chest with all her strength. Teddy gasped as he felt his ribs cracking.

Nobody that small should be so strong ( ... )

Kate blanched. That bitch had superpowers and she took away the others' powers anyway? Could she not handle them otherwise or what? Was she that Mantis person the girl next door had been talking about or just a lackey? Could Kate ask herself anymore questions?

Calm down, Bishop. The Vision's probably getting a rescue party together already. Whether he's gone to the Avengers or going after more kids from the failsafe program, he's definitely going to get here eventually. We just have to last until then. Which probably means going easy on the more dramatic escape attempts... Kate felt her knees getting weak, but she pretended they'd turned to stone instead and stayed solidly on her feet. If she had to wait for a rescue, fine. But as soon as she got past this stupid forcefield, that foreign-sounding doctor-thing was going to see what her power was, collar or not.

"Hey!" Cassie snarled. "Can't you pick on someone your own gender?"

If she weren't so determined, Cassie would blush. She sounded, well, she sounded like a stupid 14 year old girl trying to impersonate Kate. But if she actually could get the woman to turn on them they had a shot at getting out. Both Kate and Cassie knew how to fight without relying on their powers, although Kate was the only one experienced in taking down villains with superpowers.

Vanessa didn't even bother to look at Cassie. "Tell me. Do I honestly look that stupid to you?" She put her hands on her hips and cocked her head to one side. "Do you really think I'm going to let any more of you out to play right now?"

She snorted, laughing softly. It might have been a pretty laugh, under other circumstances. "Now, Thomas, shall we have our little fight, or shall I move on to the young lady who seems to eager to fight your battle for you?"

Zack took in all the bedlam. If he waited any longer, it would be too late. They needed as much help as they could get, and if a kamikaze tactic is what it took, so be it.

"Alright. Billy, get as close to the wall as you possibly can. I'm gonna go for it." Zack made his way up to the force field that kept them prisoner. Streetlight Manifesto's "The Big Sleep" started running through his head.

"Three..." He placed his hands over the collar, ready to crush it. "Two..." Zack squeezed his eyes so tight, he saw stars. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the... one."

The explosion that followed reverberated through the entire compound.

Billy dove under his bunk as Zack yanked his collar off, chanting frantically and hoping to whatever diety might have been watching that this would work, and that nobody would die. "Idon'twantanyonehurtidon'twantanyonehurtidon'twantanyonehurt!"

His head ached horribly as he chanted. It felt like his brain was going to explode any moment and dribble out his ears.

And then, oddly, in the middle of the explosion, the pain stopped. It was like something had suddenly clicked into place. He was surrounded by the familiar blue glow and welcome tingle of his power.

Tommy looked down at Teddy then back at the woman. Back at Teddy, who was clearly in serious pain, then back at the woman. Looked at Cassie, why were all of these girls so weird?, and then back at the woman yet again ( ... )

The blast had knocked Cassie off her feet. She looked around to see if Kate was all right but the smoke was obscuring her vision. But she could still hear, and the humming sound the forcefields made had momentarily stopped. She tried to use her powers again, since if the forcefields were out of sorts, just maybe the collar was too.

Cassie felt the collar loosen around her and quickly raised it over her head and set it on the ground- just in case it decided to explode if dropped. The humming sound came back on, and she could see the faint glow of the forcefield come back on before dying out again. This might just be her only shot, even if she couldn’t see anything on the other side. She grew back to normal size and darted across the forcefield’s border.

Cassie looked around, trying to make out the figure of that woman as the smoke started to clear.

Vanessa was not the least bit pleased with this turn of events. She scowled. "Stupid children." With a wave of her hand, she dropped the barrier she had errected around herself and looked for the sorce of the explosion. She almost hoped it hadn't killed the child. She would very much enjoy taking him apart peice by peice.

Beneath Tommy, Teddy stirred. He was starting to feel a lot better... and a lot like grinding his captor's face into the dirt. His ribs were sliding back into their proper alignment, so whatever it was in the collar that kept their powers from working had been blown out.

Good.

Kate had dropped to the floor and covered her head when boy met forcefield--bellyflopping on a hard metal floor was going on her list of things to never do again if she could avoid it--and almost didn't notice the forcefields drop. She caught it when they flickered again, though, and scrambled out into the hall without even bothering to stand properly first. On the floor it was easier to see where everyone was without being seen herself. Right now, Dr. Sinesis was walking over. Perfect ( ... )

Just like with Cassie, the blast from the explosion knocked Sofia back right into Eliza. She shook her head in hopes of clearing it, the explosion seeming to affect her more than it really should have. As the smoke covered the area, Sofia did the first thing that came to her mind: she tried to get the wind to clear it up. To her surprise, a breeze came past her and slowly cleared the smoke from her. Whatever occurred just now, obviously disabled the collar and she was going to use this to her advantage.

With the smoke clearing from her vision, she could see the flicker of the force field as it deactivated. Now was the time to grab Eliza and get out of this cell. "Come with me! We need to get out of here!" Sofia turned to the girl, motioning for her to follow her and wasn't planning on moving until she did. All the while, the wind was doing its job clearing the additional smoke from the area.

"Uuh... *cough-cough*" Zack shook his head feverishly. Did it work? Was he dead? Did he kill someone else? He looked around and it hit him; 'Wait, I can look around! It worked, I'm alive!' Then everything else hit him. He felt like someone had unscrewed has head from the rest of his body and welded it back on at the neck. At this point, despite his newly re-armored form, all he could mutter was a pathetic "Ow ( ... )

"Don't taunt the supervillain." Billy said, trying to haul Zack to his feet, scanning the chaos desperatly for the others. He saw Teddy climbing to his feet, his form shifting from the one he normally wore to the Hulkling form her wore when superheroing, and he saw Eliza going with a girl he didn't recognize, and he saw Kate take Dr. Sinesis down. "Nothing good ever comes of it.

Vanessa Sinesis made an annoyed noise in the back of her throat. "Stupid, stupid girl," she said, sending a spell coursing through and around her. The electrical shock should be enough to deal with the child who thought she could pin her, and she could feel her body changing, hardening. If these children were so eager to die, then so be it. She would feed their corpses to her daughters when this was done.

Eliza looked at Sofia with dark, uncomprehending eyes for a moment, then nodded slowly. She climbed to her feet and followed the girl, ignoring everything. She moved like a sleepwalker, in fact.

Tommy moved back from Teddy as the other teen stood, bouncing on the balls of his feet almost excitedly. He could feel the buzz of power and he had to say there was nothing better than having his powers kick in after having them shut off. He hated being helpless and the second he could feel them he knew he wasn’t anymore. It meant nothing was in his way anymore ( ... )
