So, I've decided randomly to start posting again. First, I was going to use this livejournal to track my reading, but I got too lazy to review every book I read. Then, I used it to rant. That was lame. So, now I'm just gonna post random crap (or random carp...) about stuff until I get a better theme.
So, I'm about 24 hours from finishing law school...exciting times. Of course, that leaves me about 7 days from starting library school (my exciting year of internet learning!), so not a whole lot's gonna change.
Other news...I'm going to start my first crappy scifi humor novel this summer - Broderick Murphy, Cosmic Adventurer. I'm gonna be posting the chapters online as I get them done for people to comment on. I'll post where they'll be as soon as I'm ready to post them. The story is a bit of a swashbuckling space spy story that's not a farce, but not intended to take itself really seriously. I'm also working on a serious story set in the same universe that explains some of the background events that's tentatively titled The Persona Wars, but I really don't have a format for it yet. I'll keep you posted.
Finally, I've managed to find some interesting movies on the list for the rest of 2007 that you probably haven't heard of. They're listed in order of release, and they have a range of appeal. I haven't seen these, and they have minimal hype, so view at your own risk!
Waitress (Limited release this week) - Keri "Felicity" Russell is a waitress who decides to leave her husband when she gets pregnant, and falls in love with a doctor played by Nathan "Malcolm Reynolds" Fillion. This is indie chick-flick fare, but it is the first, last, and only movie by its director, who was murdered before she could even finish this one. Actually read a little that this is pretty good.
Angel-A (May 25) - This movie's actually 2 years old...it's Luc Besson's first movie since The Messenger. Plot? Some guy is about to jump off a bridge, but he meets a girl about to do the same, and they save each other. Some crazy plot twist allegedly exists. Besson without Milla Jovovich seems rough, but this is probably worth seeing once.
War (September 14) - So all the movies this summer are either hype machines or look REALLY bad...September brings us a revenge movie where FBI Agent Jason Statham goes on a revenge hunt for evil Jet Li (but not the Evil Jet Li from The One). Could be good.
Vantage Point (October 5) - I know very little about this except that it's about the same 15-minute block of time during which a presidential assassination takes place, told from five different points of view. Sounds like Rashomon meets JFK, which sounds like an intriguing mix.
The Golden Age (October 12) - Every year gets pronounced "Year of the Sequel," but this proves that 2007 indeed is the Year of the Sequel. This is a sequel to the 1998 movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett. All the survivors are back, with Clive Owen joining the cast as Sir Walter Raleigh. I liked the original, and I'll see this too. (BTW, if we're going to sequelize Elizabeth, can we get a sequel to Shakespeare in Love, too?)
Beowulf (November 16) - Alright, so it's done by Robert Zemeckis in the style of The Polar Express...but it has Crispin Glover as Grendel! Angelina Jolie as Grendel's Mother! I can't wait.
Enchanted (Thanksgiving Week) - A peasant girl in an animated fantasy kingdom falls in love with the prince, but the evil queen finds out and exiles her...to modern day live-action New York City!! Amy Adams, who plays the heroine, is one of my unsung crushes...I loved her as the girl who became a fat-sucking vampire in Smallville, and as Jim's girlfriend who sells purses on The Office. It's from Disney/Buena Vista, so it should have decent animation. This has quietly become my number one under-the-radar movie to see.
