Needlework for the win

I have a headset which I use when I chat with friends via the free(-ish) long distance of the internet. The headset is getting rather old, though it's still working fine. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that the little foam-stuff covers on the headphone speaker portions were worn out: they had holes in them, and it was amazing that they hadn't just fallen apart into shreds.

I know that new headsets are undoubtedly spiffier and better than mine, but mine still works quite well, aside from the headphone pads, so I hesitate to discard it. I checked at a local store, which didn't have any pads to sell me, and the clerk told me that he didn't think the pads could be bought separately. I didn't quite believe him, and when I got home and checked online, there were pads all over the place. Unfortunately, I don't recall which model number my headset is, and I hesitate to order a set of pads which may or may not fit.

Then, I had a little inspiration, and expanded my online search. Turns out, that there are several different options available if you want to make your own pads. Hah!

While my work with yarn is usually done with knitting needles, I do know how to crochet, so I grabbed a couple sets of directions off the internet, sat down with them, with my nice soft baby yarn left over from the last baby sweater I knitted, and with a crochet hook, and crocheted myself two pretty pale green headset pads. They fit perfectly, and they're very comfortable. And I'm feeling very smug.
