look, son -- we all have had a period in our lives where we've gone through similar emotions and issues...but looking for an answer in the bottom of a bottle really doesn't help...the problems remain the next morning, only exacerbated by a hangover...
you're momma was right -- i've said similar to you in the past as well...but you know something? when one becomes a doormat one eventually needs to reflect on what was learned from each instance and grow to learn to be able to pull the rug out from under them before they get into the door -- you get where i'm coming from?
as for being judged via portfolio -- i go through that in my line of work as well...but that is how we gain employment -- we have to pimp ourselves out to bring in that scratch, you know? don't take it personally -- folks each know what they are looking for style-wise, and it in no way reflects upon who you really are...if i don't display what they are looking for, they usually ask if they are serious about wanting the work done...and then i whip out another book of my work or email them some samples of other styles...
