I love Ikesoba. I love it so hard. Episode 10 has Yoshitsune - the historical Yoshitsune - show up for no apparent reason. He's played by Kyomoto Masaki. And meanwhile, this conversation takes place:
Dirty old perv guy: Hey, who's your favourite figure for the Sengoku period?
Everyone: WTF what does that have to do with anything?
Head teacher from Gokusen: I guess Toyotomi Hideyoshi. You?
Me, giggling: I like Mori Ranmaru~
Dirty old perv guy: I LIKE MORI RANMARU~♥ =D
Me: ........lol well of course you do you're a dirty old dude who likes pretty little boys wait OMG NAKAMA~ |D
I looked up the staff for Ikesoba too 'cause I thought I might find something resembling logic there. Or rather, a lack of logic that I could add to Ikesoba's canonical lack of logic to derive some sort of ass-backward logic. And I found it.
There are two directors, both of whom are much more prolific in music videos. I have very little interest in Nakano Hiroyuki aside from his having worked with Hotei Tomoyasu, but Takeuchi Tetsurou has worked with everyone from Asian Kung-Fu Generation to Aragaki Yui to AAA to FLOW to Spitz, which is very cool. But more importantly, he directed Wild Zero.
If you don't remember me talking about Wild Zero, here's a refresher course:
Context: That is Guitar Wolf shooting a car full of zombies and causing it to explode because he finds it hard to deal with both zombies and UFOs at the same time. Right after that Ace jumps out a second-story window through fire as the room he was in explodes and lands in a courtyard full of zombies while screaming, "ROCK AND ROLL!"
Suddenly SO MUCH ABOUT IKESOBA MAKES SENSE. The zombies! The aliens! The weird rockstar! The randomly breaking out in song! The gender and sexuality fuckiness! It doesn't explain the soba manzai but I'm going to take it as a substitute for everything shooting fire, which Ikesoba is sadly lacking in. THE FACT THAT THIS MAKES SENSE IS SO, SO AWESOME TO ME.
And of the three screenwriters, one of them wrote the screenplays for Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge and L change the worLd (the third Death Note film). This basically makes absolutely no sense to me but I loved those movies so I think I can roll with it. |D
