Chapter Six
The next few weeks proved to be full of change for Harry. Not only was he eating again, but he was finally getting out and about and no longer locked in his room. However, Harry still couldn’t bring himself to get back on a broom or go back to classes just yet. Rumors had already started spreading the day Harry walked into the Great Hall and he could only imagine how torturing classes would be: sitting there, watching others gossip.
By now it was the end of May, the 28th to be exact. Today marked the four month anniversary of the fall. The spring term had ended. Harry and Draco were allowed to stay at Hogwarts over the summer to make up the work they had missed. Most of the professors were still there and willing to help. They all now knew about the situation Harry and Draco had gone through. The two boys had decided to let Dumbledore tell the professors, figuring it was better to tell them sooner than later.
Draco had moved back into the room with Harry. Although both boys were excited to be together, Harry was still hesitant to connect with Draco again, sexually. The past six weeks at least brought forth more kissing and touching than previously. Draco was yearning to be with Harry again, but he didn’t dare push him. He knew Harry was still grieving, and he at least was making progress. Draco was satisfied with that.
Both Harry and Draco decided to take the day off from school work. Knowing it had been exactly four months, they decided their day was better spent together, free of work. At the moment, the two of them were sitting in the Great Hall together, eating dinner.
“Harry?” Draco smiled.
“Yes?” Harry asked back.
Draco reached across the table and held Harry’s hand, “I’m quite proud of you.”
“Proud of me? For what?” Harry asked obviously confused.
“For finally being able to start moving on, start getting back out there.”
Harry hung his head, “I never even went back to class and we, we haven’t…”
Draco smiled and squeezed Harry’s hand, “That doesn’t matter. Where you are now is better than where you were six weeks ago. Here, I have something for you.”
“What is it?” Harry asked as Draco pulled out a small box.
“Here.”
Harry opened the small box to reveal a long silver necklace. On the end of the chain was a silver baby’s foot with a pink heart stone in it.
“What’s this?” Harry asked.
“It’s a necklace.”
“Duh, Draco.”
“It’s a baby’s foot. I talked to Poppy. She said, if you hadn’t lost the baby, you would’ve been due in October. The pink stone is October’s birthstone. I figured the chain was long enough that you could keep it tucked into your robes, for just us to know about, along with anyone you want to show. It’s just a little reminder, so he or she will always be with you.”
Harry felt like crying, but he wouldn’t let himself. Instead, he smiled. He smiled at the thought of having this little reminder. Harry reached across the table and hugged Draco tight.
“Thank you,” he smiled.
“You’re welcome.”
Harry put the necklace on right away, smiling the entire time. Draco couldn’t help but smile, watching Harry seem genuinely happy for once. Although Harry smiled and appeared happy from time to time over the past four months, this was the first time it seemed completely real and Draco was thrilled. They finished eating their dinner and decided to take a walk outside, under the stars. They walked hand-in-hand towards the forest. Upon reaching a moonlit pond, Harry stopped Draco.
“What is it?” Draco asked.
“You’ll see,” Harry said with a grin.
Harry pulled out his wand and pointed to a spot under a tree near the pond. Suddenly a blanket appeared stretched out on the ground with a pillow or two on top.
“Let’s sleep under the stars,” Harry said, pulling Draco over to the makeshift bed.
Harry gently pushed Draco down onto the bed, kissing him. Draco felt Harry grinding gently on him as they kissed.
Draco broke the kiss, “Are you sure, Harry?”
Harry smiled, “I am. It’s been a long time.”
Draco smiled and continued to kiss Harry under the stars.
