This is an old story that I discovered in one of my notebooks. I wrote it a long time ago. I'm not gonna post the whole thing at once. So I'll do it in parts.

Synopsis: A 17-year old girl finds her life changed forever when she finds her mother on her death bed. She makes a decision to leave her life to go traveling and learn to be a swordsman like her mother. She will keep the legacy of Ellie, her mother, going. She goes backpacking through the mountains and stumbles upon a man that lives in a secluded cabin.

Wandering around Colorado is harder than you would think. Then again I didn’t really have a game plan. I had an idea of going backpacking through the mountains and it didn’t seem like a bad idea. I’d see where this adventure would take me. It was a hell of a lot better than being home. All I needed now was some food to take with me.
The granola bars and some matches I bought would have to do so I made my way to find somewhere to camp out. I could smell the trees surrounding me and decided that this trip wouldn’t be that bad at all.

Night started to fall too soon, but you can’t stop nature. I hurried to grab as much wood I could and piled it up. Striking a match and throwing it set the logs afire and the warmth could be felt a couple feet from the flame. Before you judge me, I planned to put it out. I know. Only I can prevent forest fires.

Using bunches of leaves as a homemade bed I laid down on the ground. Insects and howls could be heard throughout the trees as I drifted off into a deep sleep. I dreamed of a river glowing with the light of the sun. A white stallion at my side rested its head in my palm. Its beautiful hazel mane felt like silk and smelled like lilies.

The moment was disturbed by a black figure running past me. It was gone so fast that I was having doubts that it was ever there. Perhaps I was imagining things. This was a dream after all. I could’ve sworn it was a man though.

Sleep was ended abruptly when sunlight hit my face and chased my dream away. My sadness for my mom was back full force, but I refused to let it stop me from my journey. This was our dream and her dying wish.

I put out the fire and began my day. The bag on my shoulder was a bit bulkier than I would have liked, but I’d manage. As I bit into my freshly unpacked granola bar, there was a noise in the distance. It sounded like slicing and grunting. Braches crackled and twigs snapped as they were stepped on. It came from my left.

I made my way slowly towards the sound. As I hid behind a tree a glimmering light could be seen from…a sword? Soon a man was visible. He was moving in a precise way that was familiar to me. His hair whipped about his head as if it was suspended in the air.

He was the most beautiful piece of art I’ve ever laid eyes on. The example of tall, dark, and handsome. His hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail. Skin tanned to perfection. Muscles in all the right places. I didn’t want to stop drinking him in, but I had to because he spoke.

“I know you’re there. Who is there is my real question. Come out from behind that tree. Let me see you.” His voice caressed my ears like silk. It was laced with an Italian accent that made him even sexier.

I stepped out from behind the tree with my bag on my back and hair pulled up. My heart was beating so loud that I almost didn’t hear him say “Oh my God.”

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to spy on you. I was just walking and heard something. I was just curious to see what it was. I’ll leave you to yourself.” I turned to go and said, “You’re an amazing swordsman by the way. My mother was one, too.” I only took two steps before his hand was on my arm.

“No. Wait. I was just surprised. Tell me something. What’s your name?” He turned me around to face him. His dark brown eyes were filled with interest.

“Lorelei. Yours?” I readjusted my pack so it wouldn’t slip off.

“Detri. Your name is beautiful. It fits you.” He picked a leaf out of my hair, which I could get used to. “You didn’t sleep out here did you?”

“Of course. It’s the mountains. Where else would I sleep?”

“You can clean up here if you’d like. I’ll get you some towels. Soap and shampoo are in the bathroom.” He had already walked away before I could say anything. Shrugging, I followed after him.

His cabin smelled of incense and wood. A wall of swords covered the wall opposite the front door. They were beautiful and I couldn’t help but admire them. I practically flew over to them and began carefully stroking them with my fingertips and smelling the metal.

“Like them?” His voice came out of thin air and he was behind me when I turned around.

“Definitely. It’s my mission and dream to become a great swordsman. My mother was one of the best. I’m carrying on the legacy for her. Attempting to anyway. I have to find someone as good as my mother was. Anyway, thank you for the towels.”

I found my way to the bathroom and on my way I took my hair out of the ponytail. It fell to my back. It definitely needed a washing. I thought I heard a gasp, but I couldn’t be sure. I was imagining things lately. I kept walking and strode through the door. There was something I didn’t expect: a glass shower. I’d never seen one in a cabin before. Or in person actually. It was a nice surprise.

I undressed and turned the hot water on. I immediately felt the steam rising and sighed with satisfaction. Finally, I could be clean again. I don’t mind dirt and grime, but if being clean is an option I’ll take it.

I swear that I started glowing when I scrubbed my skin clean. People might say that’s a bit conceded, but I know what I saw. That soap was wonderful. I couldn’t quite peg the scent though, which is unusual.

When the shower had done its job, I shut the faucet off and slid the glass door aside. I found comfort in the soft blue towel. It reminded me of being a little girl in the bathroom with my mother. When times were good.

There was a knock on the door so I didn’t cry. I just took a deep breath and answered the knock.

“Yes?”

“Are you done in there?”

“Almost. Why?"

"When you're ready come meet me in the living room."
