ORIGAMI SHARDS pt. 2

This is an old story that I discovered in one of my notebooks. I wrote it a long time ago. I'm not gonna post the whole thing at once. So I'll do it in parts.
Title: ORIGAMI SHARDS
Chapters: 2/?
Author: Asia Perkins aka xxemocupcakexx
Genre: romance/drama/action
Warnings: mild violence
Rating: PG
Synopsis: A 17-year old girl finds her life changed forever when she finds her mother on her death bed. She makes a decision to leave her life to go traveling and learn to be a swordsman like her mother. She will keep the legacy of Ellie, her mother, going. She goes backpacking through the mountains and stumbles upon a man that lives in a secluded cabin.

Lying on the bed was my mother, Ellie. She looked very pale. Well. Paler than her normal cancer-ridden self. Something was extremely wrong with this picture.

“Mom, are you okay?”

“Oh, angel, I’m just fine now that you’re here. Come. Sit,” she said as her tiny, fragile hand reached out to me.

I walked over and set the candle on the nightstand next to her bed. Grabbing her, carefully so it wouldn’t break, I felt her forehead.

“You’re freezing,” I said as I hurried to cover her.

“Baby… It’s time. I need to talk to you about something first.” She gave my hand a little squeeze. “You know how I promised to teach you how to use a sword?” My slight nod allowed her to continue. “Well, it’s obvious. I can never do that now, honey. I want you to find the best swordsman there is and learn from them. Keep that Addams’ legacy going. Do you understand?”

Tear after tear rolled down my cheeks as I nodded yes. I climbed into bed with her and wrapped her in my eyes. So fragile. So filled with love. How can someone like this have life taken away from them?

“I love you, Mom. I’ll miss you more than anything.” My voice broke and I couldn’t finish.

“I love you too, angel.” With that, her eyes closed and her body went limp. Gone.

I rocked with her, sobbing, until I knew I had to call someone. Getting up and wiping my face, I crossed her arms over her chest and left her there. I didn’t look back. I wanted to remember her healthy.

The door opened and my dad walked in. He has perfect timing.

“Mom’s gone, Dad,” I said softly. My heart was shattered and I didn’t want to have to repeat it.

“No… You did this to her. You killed her. If you weren’t alive she’d still be here!” He raised his hand to hit me and in a swift movement my hand was around his throat. I could easily crush his windpipe.

“You know damn well that that’s not true you bastard.” Dropping him to the floor, I walked through the house grabbing things I needed and shoved them all in my backpack. I wound up with four days of clothes, a flashlight, $200, a picture of mom, Kat, and me, and a scrunchie.

I walked out the front door, head held high of course, with little clue of what I was doing. I knew I couldn’t see Kat or I wouldn’t continue on with my mission. I’d write.

“Lorelei! Get back here. Wait,” the deep voice called to me.

Without so much as a glance, I said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be back.”

I think we both knew that was a lie.
